It never ceases to amaze me how clever some people are, to make that form those parts is great, I reckon it would be capable of driving a small laser etcher.
i wonder if you could get a Lightscribe dvd burner, open the case, attach a 1w laser (infrared is good) on the laser head, press print, and it would draw stuff onto ceiling :D
fruit machines use stepper motors to drive the reels. I used to work for a fruit machine/ video game company and we had loads of them that we had salvaged from older machines as spares. might be worth you ringing people like that local to you. they are bigger than the dvd ones too.
There are stepper motors in PS2 disk drives, to drive the lasers. I have one sitting next to me right now. It is VERY small though, I have yet to build a circuit to test it.
I like the idea, but I can't figure out what parts of a DVD player you used. Did you use full size video DVD players or PC DVD-ROM drives? And is it the disc eject mechanism you're using or is it the read head mechanism? Any extra information would be very interesting.
nice

too weak. unless its for jello. lmao but you can learn from it

Does it ever sit still? Or just move around, and around, and around...
If it does sit still, Does it have any strength, to resist sideways forces? (the x & y stages)

Where did you get your program?

ahahaha good idea but not very useful

Brilliant!!!

Genial, but... does the power be sufficient?
The cnc's motors require medium power to move the object while milling...

Man this is genius. Nunca se me hubiera ocurrido / i'll never figured it out.

That is really cool.

hi, have you got an instructable for this project?, thanks

these tables aren't strong enough for drilling, you should use a 1w laser diode instead
ryandardis 3 years ago
Like the idea :D But are they strong enough to be a platform to work with (as a cnc machine for - maybe some light aluminium?)

good very good...

These are actually bi-polar stepper motors.
I am also tying to make a small cnc out of these motors. i would love more info on this project

The DVD tables in the movie use steppers instead of the more common DC motor.
Finding one with a stepper instead of a DCmotor proved to be
harder than I thought. I bought a big box
full of old CDrom
& DVD units. In my hunt for parts to fuel my
projects, I have taken apart around 50 units by now. So far only one with a stepper motor.
If you happen to stumble on one with a stepper, hold on to it for dear life.
PraeMortem: Do you have a project blogg or something for this machine?

steppers were often used in old floppy drives -search for those units

I want to know it too. Fanstastic. U must have a big head to built that machine
yayamacha 4 years ago
I wanna know about the circuit. Do you reused the original circuit or was done a new circut (2 H-bridge for each motor) ?

to me, it looks like the read head mechanism. i built a carrot chopper one of them
