  • lightning = over 30k celcius, im surprised that ur truck is not damaged as i thought it would

  • I'm kinda intrigued as to what lightning does to magnets now. Also, did the tires blow out right around the sidewall or at the bead? I'm curious!

  • d00D i live right by bridgeport

  • BACK TO THE FUTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i had a direct lightning bolt strike one of my 200 foot longwire antennas taking down the tree that it was attached to and destroying 4 radios, 2 tv's and a computer.

im glad you didnt get hurt. did you get shocked or anything or did it just blow the radio, fry the tires and vaporize the antenna?

  • Did you catch it while the lightening hit the truck? That would've been exciting.

  • VindicatedNinja: he doesn't have the flux capacitor, of course he didn't travel through time, he probably wasn't going nearly fast enough.

  • wow i allways though lightning was from ground to clouds. just had to look and noticed it can be ground to clouds. clouds to ground or cloud to cloud. i was inside a very tiny demountable building when it was struck by lightning while at work. the room was the size of a small office and although i was lucky i saw 3 computers literally fry and one of the started a tiny fire... damn that was close but kinda would of loved to be in there when that happened lol

  • Wow thats crazy...I think I'd freak out...juuuust a tad.

  • chees...

    i couldn belive

  • Too bad you didn't get lightning insurance... Ive got mine =)

  • It almost looks like the antenna mount left a dimple in the metal(?)

Shame about the tires. I know a couple of chasers who dangle thin wires from the the chassis or axles to within an inch or so of the ground, trying to provide a less damaging path in the event they get zapped.

  • id gather the magnet attracted the lightning?

  • Wow man sweet videos

  • well that's why you need a license man HAM radioing is dangerous stuff

  • pretty amazing the power of lightning!

glad youre ok, imagine if you happened to be touching any part of that radio! ouch

  • You didn't travel through time or leave "Firie" tracks. :-(

  • yeah one question. about how loud was it?

  • DANG! That happened to my Suzuki XL7 but all it did was make it stop running and set a bunch of codes in the computer, fried an oxygen sensor... Damn though, blown out tires!

  • why would you drive around in a lightning storm with a huge antenna on your car? LOL

havent you ever heard of Ben Franklin?

  • Bummer! If I was in the car - I would've passed out!!!!

  • be glad ur alive mate bt jesus tht unreal

  • i asked a meteorologist if this is possible

    ANSWER ABSOLUTLY

  • Wow nature must really hate cars lol.

  • Glad you are okay and safe! watch for any wires or anything that attracts lightning attached to your car/s and take it/them off.

  • im sure your friend wont get mad at you i mea really you cannot controll the way of lightning

  • did your tires blow out right away or did it leak slower? either way, if it was me, you would have to change the seat as well.

  • I always heard that this was impossible. I wonder if he had a peice of wire or something metal dragging the ground to cause this to happen?

  • @304fannin: Lightning arcs through thousands of feet of air..what's to stop it from arcing the short distance between a car rim and the ground, or to arc through the rubber via the steel belts inside most tires?

  • It looks like nature is starting to get back at cars for something, good thing he came out of that alive.

  • WOW. Glad you're okay - have seen that happen, lightning blowing tires out - was working at a telemarketing place, there was a flagpole outside the window, lightning struck it, poured down the pole and went across the parking lot: the boss' car was next to it - four tires flat! 5/5 stars.

  • huh, and my dad says that could never happen XD

  • wow that goes against popular beliefe

  • maybe superheated air inside the tires caused it to pop, just maybe.. but anyway nice video, so nice to find something intellectually stimulating in the internet

  • it looks like fireproof truck after struck by lightning n also the paint didn't chiped off but wit a burn marks on it, it seems to be fireproof paint(i hope i make sense)

  • oh man, sorry about your losses there, you have some pretty nice video evidence showing your claims to be true. Ty for submittig.

  • i was under the impression you were supposed to time travel if this happened.

  • Only if your doing 88 miles/hour.

  • Car be a very good place to stay because the wheel can act as a conductor.Luckily you were inside the car the whole time.

  • Good thing you were in your car or that could've been you. However, I disagree that Lightning flattened the tires because rubber doesn't conduct electricity.

  • You're right about rubber, but perhaps the "steel-belted" part of the tire was enough to conduct some current. I can't figure out what else could have made all three tires go flat.

  • @jperson2007 or maybe the lightning melted a hole completely thru the rim when it arced to the ground. This in turn basically let the air out the tires.

  • @jperson2007 i think the tires went flat because when you have 20,000,000 volts @ maybe 200 amps hit your car it either melted the steel belts inside and they melted a hole in the tires or the heat deformed the tires enought to make them seperate from the burned rims and air to leak, or the rims had a hole melted in them that the air leaked by. does your car still run? im glad no one got hurt

  • @jperson2007 heat cuases tires to expand while driving on the road what could have happpened is while u were driving and the thunder struck... the tires blew out as the heat from the electrical impact cuased them to expand to the point of making u suffer two blow outs... that was some pretty heavy shit u survived... lucky guy.

  • That's very simple. The arc from the wheel to ground is very hot and melted a hole in the rubber.

It is true rubber is a insulator but 6 inches of rubber is no barrier for several million volts.

  • @BellyLover06

tires arent just made up of rubber besides the rims being made of a certain metel there is steel wrapped all the way around under neither the rubber and u cant actually tell what lightning can and cannot go through because there is no way that we can replicate the amount of power that lightning produces

  • @BellyLover06 yes u are right lightning canot go trough ruberr bt it did heat the rim up so that means the pressure from the heat applyd to the air in the tiers is wat made them go flat :)

  • @BellyLover06 The electrical potential of a lightning bolt is huge. Large enough to go hundreds of feet through the air. A half inch of rubber is not enough to stop it on its way to the ground.

  • more than rubber met the road that day

  • wow , scary how it vaporized the antenna and stuff well glad your ok,

  • that is fucking epic!

  • wow thats amazing!

  • lol, i could see u in the window reflection...hehe

  • omg it vaportzed metal

  • omg are you CRAZY?! I would have never ever gone back outside id just be screaming and wetting myself x]]

  • your lucky

i wonder what will happen if you were driving a convertible?

  • One thing for sure, his interior would be very wet from all that rain that was falling

  • Lucky that your insurance company replaced those items. If it was me, my insurance company would have totaled my truck because they don't want to deal with electrical problems. Great video though

  • Yeah, I often wonder if that strike didn't suck ten years of life from the truck somehow. Seven years later it still seems fine, no weird problems to report.

  • You should play the lottery.

  • Best. Comment. Ever.

  • yeah!!!

  • @jperson2007 my first reaction wasto wonder about wheel bearing damage that could show itself later. But I guess not in this case?

  • hey man what did the cop say when he saw your truck had been hit by lighting?

  • I smile when I think about it. Both the police and the local newspaper had trouble even believing that a strike actually happened, but they were calm about it and helped me get a flatbed tow truck. My motel room was right next to the sheriff's office (and their one-cell jail LOL) and once I showed him the video he understood what actually happened :)

  • Thanks for the heads up with the antenna; now i'm going to fire proof my antenna cables to prevent a in car fire. :) and bring two spare tires lol

  • DAYUM you were lucky..................

  • Amazing with all the antennas I have I haven't had the same fate. Last time it happened it nailed my anemometer mount, which is metal conduit.

  • Did it damage any of the electrical components in your car? Did your insurance cover the damages? You were a lucky man!

  • Yes, "Comprehensive" insurance covered all damages to the truck since it was a natural act. The Speedometer and a $2,000 cruise control chip were fried, but the truck runs great now, seven years later. I'm surprised it doesn't at least twitch randomly.

  • God must've been ticked off for some reason. Consider yourself lucky you lived to post this video. LOL

  • What makes me laugh about this experience is that I wasn't injured by the lightning strike, but I did cut my pinky at a Subway in Bridgeport an hour earlier. The only thing they had for it was a cutely pink Scooby Doo Band-Aid for kids. Ironically, it's the only injury I had that day.

  • thats a blessing from god that u didn't get injured at all

  • yea, well actually if your car gets struck by lightning your safe inside, top gear did a test of this :), but i guess he could of gotten injured, just my 2 cents :). 73s ke5rrh

  • someone said something about the current not being high enough. high voltage through a car would be ok but the current as you saw in this video blew off the tires and traveled through the car with immense force.

i'm still looking for that vid where a truck got struck and there was a huge gaping hole from where the lightning hit.

  • I believe that gaping hole was caused by the engine itself being on fire for a time after the actual strike, but I don't have conclusive proof of that; just the picture to go on.
