Me and 8 of my friends went in two cars and there is a story of two kids who were high on acid and got distracted and crashed and died well my friend was driving and she just gets a blank stare and looks into the woods and she got distracted and we almost crashed into gate 5. I had to grab the wheel. She swears she saw a face look dead at her and start to follow her

My friend went through all of them. Right before the7th gate they saw an unblinking figure on the railraod. They went to the 7th gate. Everyone but him sgarted screaming they hightailed it out. They man was gone and it was about 10 secs . They car got really cold so they pulled into a restuant. They was a handprint on his windshield. If you look close you see a face ( they took a pic) He dropped everyone off and heard a growl in his car. Keeps a cross in there to this day

7. Watch it…. Just after Gate #7 Bauer road comes out onto Hwy 40 and now nearly into Troy, Illinois so when making your turn around to make the escape, do it carefully cause one really doesn’t want to see the Hell the LAW can create does one? Same goes for those starting in Troy and turning around at Gate #1 (your 7) as it’s fairly close to Collinsville. Have fun with the legend folks but don’t provoke the law.

6. Keep following W. Mill Creek Road over Scott-Troy/Troy-O’Fallon Road where it become E. Mill Creek Road. Watch for Blackjack Road and take it to the left. Look next for Bauer Road and take it to the right. Follow Bauer Road and it will take you to Gate #7.

5. Just after Gate #5 S. Liberty Road will run into W. Mill Creek Road. Take that to the right. Gate #6 will appear briefly afterward.

4. Keep going “straight” on this road. Longhi Road will run into and you will get back on Lebanon Road. Don’t worry, you won’t double back on a bridge, trust me. Keep following Lebanon Road past Heck Road, Bohnenstiehl Road, & Pense Acres. Shortly after Pense Acres turn left onto S. Liberty Road. Follow this for a while and you’ll go through Gate #5.

3. Go through Gate #2 and keep following Lockman Road. You’ll come to a place where the road seems to dip and go back up, part of it goes straight, the other turns right. Guess what, since you’ve been running parallel with the tracks on your right for a while, you’re going to turn right and run into Gates #3 & 4 the TWIN GATES. Be careful of the curve coming out of Gate #4 it turns sharply to the right. When you turned right you got onto Longhi Road.

1. Take West Main Street in Collinsville, Illinois – East - to Lebanon Road and turn left. Keep traveling it till your out of town and soon you’ll come upon Gate #1.

2. Shortly fater Gate #1 Lebanon Road will turn to the right, but you need to turn immediately to the left onto Lockman Road and smack into Gate #2.

Fwiw, those are VIADUCTS! Not the "gates of hell". The "gates" refers to one old simple metal gate, that sat back off the road, just as you went under a (train?) viaduct on Lebanon road. My wife had this same idea...that the "gates of hell" somehow encompassed the entirety of the "backroads" around Lebanon rd. Youth these days!!

Supposedly, IF you time it right and go through them in the proper sequence and hit the 7th one at the stroke of midnight something's supposed to happen. You get transported to Hell, or something. Have also heard you need to go through the last one backwards. LOL.

I grew up in Collinsville and we used to go out there all the time. Once the head lights went out @ the 7th gate. As we got closer to Glidden Park, they came back on. There was nothing wrong with the headlights - they were checked.

There was one spot that had these huge iron gates in empty fields (were still being farmed), one across from the other. No houses. No drive ways leading up to them from the street. Not a big deal, but kinda neat. We thought of it as our own private gates. Even the gates themselves were chained shut. They are now gone.

I live in St. Louis, and my best friend Ian has been dying for me to bring him to the gates for the longest fucking time, so we drove out there last night and it was pretty fucked up. I'm not just saying this- really weird shit happened. I didn't think that it would, but it did. It was amazing. I definitely plan on going again. Before we left, we parked under the seventh gate and smoked a bowl. Good times indeed. We waited to smoke until the end, but it was still fucking ridiculous sober.

You're supposed to time it just right, going thru the 7th gate (there is a specific sequence) at the stroke of midnight. You do that, and you are supposed to be transported into Hell. The daytime just is not that creepy.

We did it at night once and found fresh blood smeared on trees and the walls of the gates. It was still dripping when we saw it. May not have been blood, but it sure looked like it, and we weren't about to get out and check.
