Buddhism for one does not believe in God. So all religions do not point to the same thing. They all disagree on many things. And we know what is inside the atom because one of them went out there and tested his beliefs, and collected evidence for it.

I love the part about teaching children to not question the information given them, and ridiculing those who do. @NYC812 "Great men" have never believed in atoms before there was evidence for it. Or, rather, there were hundreds of great men, each of whom had their own beliefs about what makes matter... And we know what is inside the atom because one of them went out there and tested his beliefs, and collected evidence for it.
This is how science works. This is how it always worked. You can have a guess, but it has only any merit once there is evidence for it.
No evidence warrants no belief.

There are stars a millions times FARTHER away from earth that a light year. When a star explodes, that event cannot be seen until millions of years later because the light emitted that allows humans to witness it in the sky has not reached the planet yet. @NYC812 A simpler explanation is this: It takes the light from the Sun about 7 full MINUTES to reach the surface of the earth. Which means that you are actually seeing the Sun 7 minutes in the “past”. This also means that where you see the Sun in the sky is always 7 minutes “incorrect” to where it physically is, as opposed to where the light makes it seem it is. (Explanation 2 of 2)

Wow. I am absolutely dumbfounded. As Tim Minchin might say, I'm like a deer trapped in the headlights of vacuous crap. If you found yourself ignoring the multiple logical fallacies that presented themselves withing the first few minutes, and only grew in number thereafter, I would recommend searching for a video called "Storm" (by Tim Minchin--the one I mentioned above).

I love the part about teaching children to not question the information given them, and ridiculing those who do. I think watching health care personnel during the H1N1 nonsense is classic example...I know a number of health care workers who seem to know that the H1N1 scare was not on the level but couldnt say anything because their peers who not back them up.
