Cool. Thanks! I just got he new sukhoi today and I can't wait to fly it. I have a vapor transmitter that I am planning on using. Is that ok, because I heard the sukhoi is very touchy.
@themushas That transmitter will work from the standpoint of binding to the plane and all but you really need to use a computerized radio with Expo and Travel adjustments.
@dvonlangen It's not that there's anything wrong with it it's just not the optimal solution. With a plane such as the Sukhoi you're going to want advanced programming features such as dual rates and expo adjustments. Also the feel of the gimbals is much smoother on the DX6i.
Hi, I have a Ultra Micro Parkzone P-51 Mustang RTF, but normally I fly with a "custom mode" so, on left stick I have a engine and aileron, while on right side I have the control of the rudder and elevator, (it is a normal mode 2 but functions reversed). It is possibile make this "mode" with radio included in the package? If not is possibile if I buy a Spektrum DX5 or DX6, i can create this custom mode? Thank you so much ciao Silvio.-
@MarcoMaticProduction While it's technically possible to bind the UM-P-51's transmitter to the sukhoi it's not recommended. You just don't have the fine tuning or precision available to you that you get from a DX6i or up.
this package does not come with a battery charger does it? wherever ive seent he product it doesnt seemt o come with a charger? what is that other thing on the table besides the plane and the 3 transmitters?
I love it, I use my DX6i or my LPDSM thingy that came with a CX3 I bought. I didnt bother changing any settings (apart from dip switches on the LPDSM) and find the Sukhoi and the P51 great fun to fly!
@Laserman232 I wouldn't recommend it. You're really going to want to use a Spektrum DX6i at the very least, that way you have access to some more advanced programming such as expo and dual rates.
@Laserman232 If you're a beginner then you should go with a different plane than the Sukhoi. The Sukhoi is an advanced plane that requires more skill to fly out of the box. I would recommend going with something like the Ultra Micro J-3 Cub or even the Ultra Micro P-51 would be better for you.
Think of Expo (exponential) similar to sensitivity. When you add expo to a Spektrum radio it makes a model less sensitive around center movement of the sticks. If you want a plane to be more responsive you would add negative Expo. Now it doesn't give you more total throw, just changes the throw around center.
You'd have to have it custom configured but it is possible. Are you in Europe? If so I don't know what to tell you but in the USA it can be done in the US Service center with certain JR Radios. I don't think it's possible with the DX6i however.
well when a SERVICE or anybody else work on the radio i lose my waranty. the truth is horizon dont care about pilots who fly other mods i know what i m talking about i open a DX6I the cables are to short for one example but anyways. i send it back. your service is sad your company are only intrest on sale no service. sorry truth hurts.
You're missing what I am saying. You can order a JR Radio and specifically request a Mode 3 or mode 4. That does not void your warranty since we are an authorized and certified service center. This is at least in the US, I don't know how it works in other regions.
hey horizon let me tell you something were is the problem to built tranmitter with mode 4 i fly this mode and a lot of pilots in europe i really like your company but it seams you dont care about pilots who fly mode 3 or 4 please answer. thanks
Mode 2 is by far the most commonly use transmitter mode, with 1 being second most common. It is for that reason that the transmitters have a mode 1/2 switch. For those flying Modes 3/4 we really recommend the BNF versions, that way you can configure the radio how you like it. It's just not economically feasible to mass produce mode 3/4 RTF radios since it's such a small percentage of the overall market.
there are so many brushless why pkz doesnt make them brushless with more power i had to order brushless motor and esc from hobbycity to fly it outside
Yes and no. The mCX batteries will provide a shorter flight time. We also do not recommend the mCX radio with the Sukhoi. It just doesn't have the programming and versatility you're going to want. We actually had David Payne on our Podcast this week discussing just this item.
I have very little experience with flying rc planes. This lil plane is easy to fly away from you, problem is coming back to you and landing. Gotta a bunch of runs out of it between 3 people and its a pretty tough lil sucker. Try out the simulator of course. =)
The parkzone p 51 micro is a much easier plane to fly. A guy called earthling1984 did a review on youtube. i asked if this was a good step up from a three channel. he said as long as you take it easy with the maneuvers at the start, it should be fine
P.S- if you want to watch the video, type in the search box
in open area with the minimum wind on a sunny day i did a nice landing but the battery lasts 3-4 minutes and i fall without injuries ,so i guess its stricly indoor so for open area has no power
I'm a bit disappointed with the Sukhoi. Just bought one and a Blade mSR heli at the same time. Broke the prop on the second try, needed to replace it (with the spare which was included). Then, I next tried it in the park under calm weather. I followed Jim's DX6i setup advice, and despite the fact that I fly mSR ok, Vapor ok, planes in flight-sim ok, the Sukhoi was too difficult to handle. Crashed it a couple more times (on grass) and damaged the rudder. Currently needs fixing. :(
how to bind the mcx: put in the battery in the model. then create a new ACRO model on your transmitter. turn off transmitter. turn on transmitter again with pulled trainer switch. now the model should be bind.
Thanks very much for the review and suggested settings - gave me the confidence to go out and buy one - it arrived today and I am so happy with it :-)
I took it straight outside and flew it in a gentle breeze without any problems - it amazes me how well it deals with wind, given how light it is. (Apart from the very first hand launch which went straight into the ground, I have had no damage).
As a result of this video I bought a DX6i rather than DX5e, and I think I made the right choice.
Thanks for your comment. I'm sure you will like the DX6i combination. Yesterday I let one of those "kids" with the magic thumbs fly my sukhoi. He had it rolling so fast against a slight breeze that it looked like a blur just standing still against the breeze in front of us. Amazing.
dx6i is the right choice!!! As if you ever decide to fly helicopters you will need a DX6i, DX5's won't work! a Dx5 is good for all planes basically though.
Oh yes, I am really liking the DX6i - very glad I went with it. I have my eye on a few more purchases to start filling up the 10 memories(!) and actually one is indeed a heli.
Im thinking about getting this, will it work fine on the DX5e, will i be able to use my dx5e on this aircraft and another and just bind it every time i fly the plane.
Also does this plane hover (prop hang i believe its called).
Webster, If you think you like this RC hobby you will save money by getting the DX6i (or my favorite the DX7). Even on this model the additional features make it a much better flying model. With the DX6i you have 10 model memories and something you can continue with. Think about it.
i'd like to know if the dx5e won't be good enough for good flights since it can only go to a fixed 70% rate on all channels, meaning the plane will be quite delicate to handle then, according to your video. i haven't received it yet, but i wanted a cheap bind'nplay radio.
however if its not that good i would have bought the Dx6i... that's if the page didnt recommend dx5e of course
The DX5e will work fine, however you will have more programming options with the DX6i due to the computerized nature of the radio system. I would be careful on the first couple flights but, depending on your previous flight experience, you'll feel comfortable after a few flights. On mine I set the Dual-Rate to 65% to start and am now flying at 80% for low-rates. Once I am in the air however I switch over to high rates and go to town.
Is it possible to use a Spectrum Module with a Fatuba T7CHP?
Thanks for your review on this little plane. I broke a prop within minutes and a quick flick through the manual did not reveal that it was indeed a screw on prop. I found out the hard way. My LHS where I brought the plane stocks no parts whatsoever so if I break another prop I'm grounded possibly for weeks, months.
I'm not sure if the Spektrum Module will work with the T7CHP, I'm just not that familiar with Futaba radios. Basically if the Spektrum module for Futaba fits in your radio then yes it will work
as I love to do some knife edge flying I wonder how the performance of this little thing with its small fuseledge is? anybody got some practical experience?
Doesn't knife edge well, no. Capable but definitely not more than capeable. Very nose heavy. Also, if you use the setup in this vid it won't knife edge. you need more rudder than stock to knife edge. I've tried in over 5 flights now.
RC, No it will not, the 6102 is a normal 72 mhz transmitter and can't be converted to DSM2 2.4. Check out a DX6i or DX7, both will fly all the BNF models now and those coming in the future.
No worries ta. I ended up buying a DX6i which works great. Will the prop shaft, prop and drive motor from a Vapor or Ember fit the Sukhoi? They look very similar. Thanks.
I just received mine and have some serious problems with my throttle stick:
- left/right: throttle
- up/down: rudder
How strange is that?! Granted, this is my first time using the Dx6i... but binding went without a problem, any ideas on what might be causing this? I also made sure that plane and not heli is selected under model.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions on how to solve this...
Two things- first are you flying mode 1 or mode 2? Next, did you do a model memory reset for the model memory you are using? sounds like it has some mix or somehting in it. Do the reset.
Hi! It's mode 2. I did the following: - model type 1 - copy/reset - reset - confirm with yes - I get three beeps - back to main menu - switch off tx - turn on receiver (red flashes) - turn on tx with trainer (binds) - red light becomes solid
I also have to rebind EVERY time. I don't understand that. It's my first dx6i and first time using it so that could be me. I tried it 10 times yesterday. I needed to bind every time...
mf, sounds like you are plugging the airplane battery in before you turn on the TX?? You only do that for the bind, afterwards always turn on the TX first.
Yea, i am doing that. I thought i needed to do that with DSM so the TX finds something when i turn it on. I guess it's the complete opp of what I thought...lol
That will solve that problem. As to the prop change, I use a pair of hemostats which help but the best thing might be to open the fuselage (cut the tape like in the video) then you can reach it with needle nose pliers. Keep us posted.
Tried my first flight yesterday. Took off, flew 10 seconds then went to land and breath... the prop sits so low to the ground that it touched and broke. changing it was a huge pain... I hope it gets better. I was waiting for this for EVER and I'm a little dissappointed...
Mf, I broke my first prop to, now I fly over mowed grass, crashed 4 times yesterday with no damage or broken prop. The more you fly it the more you like it.
Thanks. I'm going to give it another go when I get home from work. Changing the prop was a bit of a pain, no? I guess adding a lugnut would have added weight so I can see why but it wasn't that simple to change.
I'm seeing about 5-8 minutes depending on how much power I use. If you're really on power the whole flight the battery will obviously not last as long.
Well you have a huge yard, over half of a football field! I could take off my Decathlon, Typhoon, or Trojan in that space, and land the Decathlon or Typhoon in that space. Most people probably have a 25x50 ft yard. Seems like this is just a gymnasium indoor plane, even my Decathlon and Typhoon struggle in everyday (5-9mph) wind, this would be totally uncontrollable outside except under no wind situations like the Vapor. Any wind and you are in a tree..
THEY NEED SELL THESE THINGS ALREADY! I cant find any of them anywhere! and the people who are going sell them keep saying two weeks, two weeks, ohh! two more weeks!! GRRR! I will fly this in my house, garage, front yard, AHH!
You can't fly it in your house, you can't fly it in your yard, you must find a large indoor space / gymnasium or travel to the park/school when there is absolutely zero wind! How often is that going to happen, I see getting very little use out of this plane if it is not flyable in the same space/conditions as the Vaor.
It's not designed to fly in the house and I will say that I have flown it quite a few times in my yard. Actually, now that I think about it, all of my flights on it but one or two have been in my yard in an area about 150x150 or so.
I was excited about this plane until now. I have a Vapor for my front yard, which I am kind of bored with now and was excited about the Sukhoi. But now it looks like I couldn't fly the Sukhoi at home and would have to take it to the school/park! Well if I am going to travel to the school or park, I am not bringing a 16" plane, I would bring my Trojan or Typhoon! This model makes no sense since a large indoor place is impossible to find or far away, or waiting for a dead calm day at the park??
In fact it copes very well with a light breeze. I am not an experienced RC pilot, but I received it today and had to fly it (about 10 times) despite some breeze, and was impressed how controllable it still was.
Great video Jim i was waiting for you horizon guys to make this vid, its very helpful, are you guys going to make a video on the new ParkZone T28D BNF please it would be great!.
doesn't really explain how to bind... i haven't tried my dx6i yet because i just got it so i have no clue what bind mode is. Looks like you just turn it on... Is that all i need to do? Guess i'll read the instructions tonight...
Thank you guys for being so helpful. I hope to get a sukhoi soon, but I don't have the cash. Thats why I entered the contest to win either the dx7 and mustang or the truck. If I win, I'm going to sell the plane and keep the dx7 and buy a sukhoi.
This plane is very good....but marginally underpowered. I bound and flew and smiled....and have already sussed the brushless comversion! Great platform. Flies like a funtana or larger electric F3A pattern aerobatic aircraft. Fantastic job and good foresight for mods with the reciever. 4 and a half out of five....only flown outdoors in a bit of a breeze but well worth the wait.....ENJOY....what you still reading this for go buy one...
Im not jim booker from the video but i have a DX5e and a sukhoi it will work fine. You just turn on the plane with the transmitter off, then press and hold the trainer switch as you turn on the transmitter then after 5-10 sec it should be bound. Easy as Pie!
my problem is when i tried your aileron high rates the su,s aileron servo was sticking but was fine at slightly lower rates 15% lower.

however if its not that good i would have bought the Dx6i... that's if the page didnt recommend dx5e of course
kangsterizer 2 years ago
The DX5e will work fine, however you will have more programming options with the DX6i due to the computerized nature of the radio system. I would be careful on the first couple flights but, depending on your previous flight experience, you'll feel comfortable after a few flights. On mine I set the Dual-Rate to 65% to start and am now flying at 80% for low-rates. Once I am in the air however I switch over to high rates and go to town.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
thanks, i'm less worried then. i can take off with the 80 dual rates and fly full.
i just didnt have these non-quartz receiver before.
also the DX6i is hard to find at good prices here in europe it seems.
DX5 and DX7 (really expensive) are much easier to get

Great video for setup, it sure helped for my maiden :-)
I noticed that there is a lot of chatter as soon as I hook up the battery, is this normal?
Skydive4ever 2 years ago
Mine does that too. they say it's normal. Don't worrry about that.

Top review chief, thanks..
extramural 2 years ago
I'm not sure if the Spektrum Module will work with the T7CHP, I'm just not that familiar with Futaba radios. Basically if the Spektrum module for Futaba fits in your radio then yes it will work

as I love to do some knife edge flying I wonder how the performance of this little thing with its small fuseledge is? anybody got some practical experience?
clydefrosch07 2 years ago
The Sukhoi is more than capable of performing knife edges.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
Doesn't knife edge well, no. Capable but definitely not more than capeable. Very nose heavy. Also, if you use the setup in this vid it won't knife edge. you need more rudder than stock to knife edge. I've tried in over 5 flights now.

great review Jim, im not sure I will be able to fly it in my garden though??
five stars for the video

I love this plane, its a real blast and it gets ALOT of attention at the field. Is there a chance this will come out as a RTF in the future?
ssrc30 2 years ago
Something tells me it wont be long until this comes out in RTF since the Styrofoam packaging has a mold for a transmitter...
JohnBohnam223 2 years ago
will it bind to my jr XP 6102
rcfreak2493 2 years ago
RC, No it will not, the 6102 is a normal 72 mhz transmitter and can't be converted to DSM2 2.4. Check out a DX6i or DX7, both will fly all the BNF models now and those coming in the future.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
No worries ta. I ended up buying a DX6i which works great. Will the prop shaft, prop and drive motor from a Vapor or Ember fit the Sukhoi? They look very similar. Thanks.
extramural 2 years ago
No they are different.

Hi,
I just received mine and have some serious problems with my throttle stick:
- left/right: throttle
- up/down: rudder
How strange is that?! Granted, this is my first time using the Dx6i... but binding went without a problem, any ideas on what might be causing this? I also made sure that plane and not heli is selected under model.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions on how to solve this...
FredericEpe 2 years ago
Two things- first are you flying mode 1 or mode 2? Next, did you do a model memory reset for the model memory you are using? sounds like it has some mix or somehting in it. Do the reset.
Jimnie1 2 years ago
FredericEpe 2 years ago
Oh, and I still have throttle left/right and rudder up/down... :-(
FredericEpe 2 years ago
Fredrick, hook up the DX6i Tx with the receiver and servos it came with. Do the bind process and let us know if everything is working correctly.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
I also have to rebind EVERY time. I don't understand that. It's my first dx6i and first time using it so that could be me. I tried it 10 times yesterday. I needed to bind every time...
mfasouletos 2 years ago
mf, sounds like you are plugging the airplane battery in before you turn on the TX?? You only do that for the bind, afterwards always turn on the TX first.
Jimnie1 2 years ago
Yea, i am doing that. I thought i needed to do that with DSM so the TX finds something when i turn it on. I guess it's the complete opp of what I thought...lol
Thanks. I'll try it tonight.
mfasouletos 2 years ago
That will solve that problem. As to the prop change, I use a pair of hemostats which help but the best thing might be to open the fuselage (cut the tape like in the video) then you can reach it with needle nose pliers. Keep us posted.
Jimnie1 2 years ago
Tried my first flight yesterday. Took off, flew 10 seconds then went to land and breath... the prop sits so low to the ground that it touched and broke. changing it was a huge pain... I hope it gets better. I was waiting for this for EVER and I'm a little dissappointed...
mfasouletos 2 years ago
Mf, I broke my first prop to, now I fly over mowed grass, crashed 4 times yesterday with no damage or broken prop. The more you fly it the more you like it.
Jimnie1 2 years ago
Thanks. I'm going to give it another go when I get home from work. Changing the prop was a bit of a pain, no? I guess adding a lugnut would have added weight so I can see why but it wasn't that simple to change.
mfasouletos 2 years ago
I just set mine up, but its too windy to fly outside right now... Question though, what is the minutes of flight for this plane?
CyclingMagician 2 years ago
I'm seeing about 5-8 minutes depending on how much power I use. If you're really on power the whole flight the battery will obviously not last as long.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
Well you have a huge yard, over half of a football field! I could take off my Decathlon, Typhoon, or Trojan in that space, and land the Decathlon or Typhoon in that space. Most people probably have a 25x50 ft yard. Seems like this is just a gymnasium indoor plane, even my Decathlon and Typhoon struggle in everyday (5-9mph) wind, this would be totally uncontrollable outside except under no wind situations like the Vapor. Any wind and you are in a tree..
hotstocksfly 2 years ago
i dont like this, especially outdoors, big planes are heaps more fun, little plane will be blown away by a tiny gust of wind.

THEY NEED SELL THESE THINGS ALREADY! I cant find any of them anywhere! and the people who are going sell them keep saying two weeks, two weeks, ohh! two more weeks!! GRRR! I will fly this in my house, garage, front yard, AHH!
djrevolution99 2 years ago
They're shipping now.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
Sorry typo Vapor
hotstocksfly 2 years ago
You can't fly it in your house, you can't fly it in your yard, you must find a large indoor space / gymnasium or travel to the park/school when there is absolutely zero wind! How often is that going to happen, I see getting very little use out of this plane if it is not flyable in the same space/conditions as the Vaor.
hotstocksfly 2 years ago
It's not designed to fly in the house and I will say that I have flown it quite a few times in my yard. Actually, now that I think about it, all of my flights on it but one or two have been in my yard in an area about 150x150 or so.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
I was excited about this plane until now. I have a Vapor for my front yard, which I am kind of bored with now and was excited about the Sukhoi. But now it looks like I couldn't fly the Sukhoi at home and would have to take it to the school/park! Well if I am going to travel to the school or park, I am not bringing a 16" plane, I would bring my Trojan or Typhoon! This model makes no sense since a large indoor place is impossible to find or far away, or waiting for a dead calm day at the park??
hotstocksfly 2 years ago
In fact it copes very well with a light breeze. I am not an experienced RC pilot, but I received it today and had to fly it (about 10 times) despite some breeze, and was impressed how controllable it still was.

doesn't really explain how to bind... i haven't tried my dx6i yet because i just got it so i have no clue what bind mode is. Looks like you just turn it on... Is that all i need to do? Guess i'll read the instructions tonight...
mfasouletos 2 years ago
Binding:
Plug the battery in
Hold the "Trainer" switch on your DX6i for 3-4 seconds
Release the trainer switch
Wait a few seconds
After that it should be bound.
HorizonRCdotCom 2 years ago
Thank you guys for being so helpful. I hope to get a sukhoi soon, but I don't have the cash. Thats why I entered the contest to win either the dx7 and mustang or the truck. If I win, I'm going to sell the plane and keep the dx7 and buy a sukhoi.
forrest225 2 years ago
This plane is very good....but marginally underpowered. I bound and flew and smiled....and have already sussed the brushless comversion! Great platform. Flies like a funtana or larger electric F3A pattern aerobatic aircraft. Fantastic job and good foresight for mods with the reciever. 4 and a half out of five....only flown outdoors in a bit of a breeze but well worth the wait.....ENJOY....what you still reading this for go buy one...

does the dx5 transmiter work?
superchase08 2 years ago
yes but but not advisable. you wont be able to take advantage of duel rate settings.
NeXt559 2 years ago
I use the DX5e and it works fine.
blackcarreraGT 2 years ago
Im not jim booker from the video but i have a DX5e and a sukhoi it will work fine. You just turn on the plane with the transmitter off, then press and hold the trainer switch as you turn on the transmitter then after 5-10 sec it should be bound. Easy as Pie!
