I live in NYC and I go to the Letterman show a lot to see the guests and take photos. In the 15 years I've been doing that, I have to say that the week with U2 was the best ever. The were magnificent to their fans outside and inside and blew the roof off the room. I'll never forget it.
I thought U2 is over after that Pop album, but this new album tops all my expectations! Great album, maybe there are no too many hit singles, but it is brilliant
Dude...first off, Pop has some great tunes on it...I personally love "If you wear that velvet dress"....next each album they do seems to take on new directions...a lot more vocal harmonies here! Concur Awesome album
Great song. Album is finally growing on me. They plan to release ANOTHER new album before the end of the year called "Songs of Absents" and the single is "Every Breaking Wave". Hope it happens!!! Bono said its a companion album to NLOTH "A sister album" as he put it.
i actually wasn't a huge U2 fan until maybe a few months prior to this album, and i have to say it's quite good..there's no denying these guys still have it..excellent performance
I missed this one but I watched Letterman when they played I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight, and they were phenomenal, the damn crowd was on its feet. Can't wait for the tour.
I'm a HUGE U2 fan and this is the best work on the album to me. Good drive with the song. Bono doesn't over do it, this could have fit on Acthung Baby easy.
Just loving this song - reminds me what it felt like when I heard them for the first time many moons ago. I don't give a toss who they're better than or who they're bigger than - they're effing amazing end of. Quite unprecedented promotion of this album though - rooftops and chat show residences - certainly enough for this epic to sink in and keep me awake at night...
If you want "pre-POP" then you should LOVE this song. It sounds like it could have been an outtake from "BOY" or "WAR". I'm constantly amazed at how this band advances without losing "their sound" Just great tone all around.
I'm sorry, booty1235, U2 is uninspired? Unless you are a member of U2, you can't even begin to make that claim. I'm not saying which album I think it best or where this is on the list, but keep your opinions to yourself, okay? Thanks.
crackin album... i must admit i listened to get on your boots 1st and i was thinking "oh no.. what have they done" but its great. forget how to dismantle an atomic bomb and all that you leave behind - this is their best album since zooropa!!! ~(although i loved pop 2) yeeeeeeeeeeeeah!!
I'm stuck in the past? Departure from their original sound? You mean their sound where they started experimenting with Passengers and changing their sound with every album? Their old sound where they kept changing things up? Besides this album, which is a pitiful attempt at bringing back Achtung Baby's sound, their last couple of albums attempted to go back to their Joshua Tree sound, and those too were pitiful attempts. Time for U2 to recreate their sound like they used to do pre-POP.
I agree. "Moment of Surrender" is the best song they have put out since Zooropa. Did you notice how the guitar riff on "No Line on the Horizon" is basically a rip-off of "The Fly" from Achtung Baby? This is what I mean by U2 being lazy and uninspired. Overall, an OKAY album from an amazing band. Doesn't add up and pisses me off.
I am a HUGE U2 fan. Unfortunately, they've been going downhill since after Zooropa. They have gotten lazy and are obviously uninspired. I can't believe all you morons who think this is so amazing. Keep eating the cornbread, idiots . . . but please do not try to critique music when you have no f'ing idea what you're talking about.
Shake your own head -- I don't swing that way. I'm also a HUGE fan of MANY bands at certain points of their careers, and still am. I am a pre-POP U2 fan for the most part. There have been one or two gems they put out since then, but on the whole, they suck lately.
That's my opinion. From listening to their music it is my OPINION that they are uninspired and have become lazy in their process. If you can't take it, you need to learn to deal with life a little better.
fair enough u emphasised that u were only voicing ur opinion. in my opinion you have no taste and ur just a typical 'i only like they're old stuff' kinda guy. get outa the past man. pre-pop was almost 20 years ago. they're all classics from back then but they have to move on. in my opinion their departure from their original sound was a brave move- and a necessary one. upon first listen to -NLOTH it doesn't knock your socks off but its a grower. love it.

My reply to your original statement was only in regards to you calling "us' (people that still like U2's music) as being morons. I could care less if you like or dislike them. You said it yourself - "It's your opinion." I respect and value peoples opinions but calling us 'morons'? That's IGNORANT. And that's an opinion everyone will and does agree on.
Not ignorant, just not PC. If you spent less time squabbling over whether or not you're a moron and spent more time actually listening to music, then you might not come off as such a huge moron when expressing yourself.

Huge fan & u think U2 are UNINSPIRED? What planet are you on and what SHIT are u listening to??
U2 are pushing 50 yrs old and they STILL put out a better album thats both CLASSIC & CONTEMPORARY & better than half the muppet bands in the industry TODAY...just listen to the lyrics & melodies on some of their "supposedly" worse stuff....most bands would kill to have material even like that!! No band has been as consistently relevant & innovative over the yrs as U2..NOBODY!
That's good and great if all you're hoping for from an amazing band is to put out an album that's better than HALF THE MUPPET BANDS IN THE INDUSTRY TODAY. I, for one, am not content with them putting out rubbish like this and the last two to three albums. P.S. I don't listen to crap on the radio for the most part. It stales the mind as can be observed by your pathetic attempt at defending behavior from a band that is both uninspired and lazy. Have a nice day.

not agree. pop was to commercial, cheap
petruta77 2 years ago
That was the point. That's why it was called Pop.
spartacus4x 2 years ago 3
Are you kidding? Pop was the least commerical album of all. You think MoFo, If You Wear That Velvet Dress, Wake Up Dead Man, etc. were commercial?!
Vertigo was U2 at their most commerical. Pop was U2 at their most experimental and ironic.

Adam Clayton is putting together some nice bass lines on No Line.
It's nice to see him not be content with just staying on the root note all the time.
