That's a great question! The reason the Cozy Grate is able to blow out clean air is because it pulls in fresh air from the room (the design enables it to do this) and circulates the air within the tubes of the grate. Once that air is heated, it's blown back out into the room. The smoke from the fire will be further up your chimney pipe, out of reach of the Cozy Grate... unless you have your damper shut - then you'll have a smoky room no matter what!
