GM Taboada is an incredible practitioner, great teacher, and all around good person. Balintawak is a fantastic system and this is coming from a person who studies other FMA styles. Anyone who think that they could just walk on up and take on Bobby Taboada with a stick is an idiot. Anyone who would insult him from behind a computer screen is a pussy.
Making a negative comment about Bobby Taboada's skills is like erecting a giant flashing neon sign above your head that says "I'm completely ignorant and don't know what I'm talking about". Anyone who has trained with him knows what I'm talking about.
GM Taboada is awesome! I was wondering? What happened to Peter Ball? He was partnered up with GM Taboada. He trained one of my instructors for some time but just seemed to drift away? Where is he? What's he doing now?
I wonder what Henry Jayme's reaction would be. If he know's your negative comments regarding Bobby Taboada's skill. You must be very good with the olisi. But then again this is only talk....
If you truly believe that Gm Taboada doesn't teach clipping or how to defend it, your mistaken. you should do more research before commenting on subjects that you are very limited in. you cant raise yourself by putting others down. allow YOUR video to speak for itself, I assure you your video speaks volumes.
wildcat2210 no offence but try finding a REAL Balintawak teacher. One that teaches you to clip. It's for your own protection mate. Bobby looks great because his training partners don't know how to clip and control his attacks. It's a Balintawak FUNDAMENTAL he appears to have forgotten!!!
NO OFFENSE BUT...if you would like to see a real Balintawak instructor. I suggest you come see GM Taboada in person. You might find what your looking for.
I would really like to see you try to clip GM Taboada and control his attacks. that a real joke! and forgetting....he's probably forgotten more than you'll ever know.
This is GENUINE Balintawak Cuentada Escrima, I am a student of Grandmaster Bobby Taboada. He is the nicest man in person, and is definitly a great example for other martial artists. He's the best, no questions asked.
It's not the style rather the method of teaching that sets us apart. A student of Balintawak is exposed to different types of attack, from punching, butting, head butt, etc. A student learns to defend against these types of attack. Not much does this type of method, rather they would opt to learn how to attack than to defend. The mindset of Balintawak is also different. The assumption is the opponent is always a skilled fighter and not stupid or coomperative.
With that thought you are ready for his attack, the question is, Is he ready for your attack??? If 2 person has the same amount of attack, but does not have the same amount of defense, who do you think would have the higher chance of winning??? We are not saying that our wins will be absolute, it's just that we're just increasing our chance of winning.
@realist1972 I am quite sure the dog brothers I have trained with would show him respect and not appreciate stupid comments like this about a respected grand master of real FMA.
totally agreed nespines. Bobby come to Australia and took our class he is just fukin amazing he does drills like there nothin. and i believe with the 50 fights thats no bullshit cos he even made my instructor look like a walk in the park 4 him i was like WTF :O INSANE
Doesn't look like Balintawak? Bobbys not fast?. Not martial arts? Well Ive actually fucken met him when I was doing Balintawak, he trained my instructor when Bobby lived in New Zealand. Bobby was over for his daughters wedding, had a seminar where we train and instructed our training the next week. He's had over 50 real fights with a stick and never lost, was trained "old school" by grandmasters from 14 meaning getting hit hard and often. He is an awesome man
That's GRANDMASTER Bobby Taboada, don't forget that. You can't just mention an accomplished eskrimador without the proper tutelage. That's just disrespectful.

I used to live with the Balls back in Bobby's day in NZ. Haven't heard anything about them after Total Fitness.

Please go further with your thoughts.
Do you think it's style, age, training?
I think Balintawak is great. I like the no nonsense approach.
I'm not sure I agree with my original post. It was put up to see what kind of response it would illicit.

When head gear is used, higher chance that could happen. But without head gear, it will be very unlikely...

Good point and DB admit that because of head gear fights end up in other places besides 'finished'
