This is awesome! I'm so glad you made this video. This is my dad's shop :) You should go back and give him a call and he can tell you about the stuff and show you inside. He's also got some pretty sweet old cars and a truck. Again, thanks for letting people know about this.
Cheapest I've ever bought gas, was 89cents/gal I started driving in '97, and there was a year where gas dropped way down. And I remember saying to myself "If gas ever goes up above 1.25/gal, Im walking. Oh well.
I remember when the corner store on the way home from school would sell Coke in a bottle. It was about 45cents for an ice cold bottle. I have to drink it before I got home though, I wasn't aloud that much pop, but I saved my milk money on most days :) Shhh Don't tell my mom.
Well, some kids drink to much, and the parents let them sit in front of the TV/PC all day, so they get no exercise. Then they blame the pop companies for making people fat haha. Oh well.
Oh coool! Gumball machines. JK. I lowest I remember gas being was 99 cents in California. I remember seeing the news make a big deal about gas breaking a dollar...and at midnight we ran out of TV and just got snow.
I'm partial to Sinclair. I use to ride with my grandpa to get gas when I was little. They had this big inflatable dinosaur on top of the gas station. I thought that was the coolest thing.
thats cool! that first pump you showed was in use in 1930. i dont know when it was first manufactured. before curbside gas pump, gas stations or garage's used barrels and 1 gallon measuring jugs.

I lived in Hampshire in the late 70's/early 80's.
That was a gas station/car dealership back in the day. It didn't have those pumps then.
Cool tha they have them now.

I hope this stuff is around to show people the history of travel even when gasoline is no longer used to power cars.

hotmama24611 2 years ago
It is a cool town. Not so little anymore either. It's growing very fast. Hope they don't lost the small town feel.
suburbanryder 2 years ago
Oh.....it is.
It's so different from 15 years ago. It's turning into like a suburb now. Such a shame...
OrangeSockMonkey91 2 years ago
at least u got the name right most people who dont live in this town call it hampshir (hamp shaire)
junkerman321 2 years ago
Yeah kind of like "Des Plaines" is not pronounced like "Des Moines."
When I moved here from Ohio I use to say the "s" in Illinois. It's a learned thing.
suburbanryder 2 years ago
I grew up in Hampshire and remember that gas station well.

I love it when people take the time to restore and share old stuff like that.
suburbanryder 2 years ago
also if you go down the street your on, there are more gas tanks like that on route 72 near the red ox

I found out from the grandkids that they have taken pretty much all the pop machines out at schools.
Just water and juice machines now.
Where's the fun in that.

East of where I live all that stuff would be vandalized in a day. West of me that stuff will stay there another ten years and not be harmed.

This is a camera I got not too long ago. A Vado HD on sale from Amazon. It's kind of cheap but takes good video.
Still the major reason the quality is high on this one is because it's the raw file. No editing at all.

Now when I go out the next week and it goes up less than ten cents per gallon I feel fortunate.
suburbanryder 2 years ago
I bought gas at 29 cents a gallon.A long time ago.
invisiblemon 2 years ago
By the end of this summer looks like I will be paying ten times that per gallon. Kind of sad.
suburbanryder 2 years ago
those old pumps are cool, ah the smell of fully leaded gas, the youngsters just don't know how good it was.
britex3186 2 years ago
I remember my muscle car got 11 miles per gallon tops and it wasn't that big of a deal. The 400 hp motor was more important at the time.
suburbanryder 2 years ago
I remember Lion, Esso, Texaco, Pure and 76 gas, Of course they gave out S&H or Top Value stamps. Ah back in the day.
