Loed this game back in 96/97..I only had the demo but it was still so much fun! just the red car and two tracks! and then after playing for ages we discovered that there were stock cars too!! It was so much fun lapping those dumb racers over and over!
Runs like a dog in DosBox, even on a fairly fast 32bit CPU like a Core Duo (64bit CPUs are actually worse in running DOS games under DosBox)
Oh, and it won't run under CMD.EXE (which uses Virtual8086 and should run it close to native speed).
I appreciate the work done in DosBox, and the fact it can run in non-x86 systems, but full emulation (the thing DosBox does) is simply not needed for a x86 machine. Why can't someone make a Virtua8086-based DOS emulator, (or a VT-x, AMD-V one) for Windows?
I grown up on this game among others. Me and my neighbors we usualy spend the whole saturday, and sunday afternoons just playing this in split screen when we were kids. Aaah fun times. We used to play with Stock Cars mostly, instead of F1, tho.
Same here. I and my brother spent hours playing this at night. No other game has come close to getting the right mix of fun and risk vs reward like this game. I still can't place my finger on what made this game so addictive.
thanks for sharing this video. I remember the good old days when me and my close friend played this for the whole . osome game. playing this game in 2 player mode was too good
How did you get the game to run so smoothly? I have pretty decent hardware, and whether I set DOSBox's CPU cycle usage to auto or something ridiculously high, the game is unplayably choppy.
I know I can just do that (and I have here and there), but it's highly inconvenient to have to hook up a monitor and contend with a phenomenally unstable OS (it's bad on that computer, trust me) just to play a game, hence me inquiring about DOSBox.
Yeah man. I have a bunch of DOS games I'd like to play, but I need to use stuff that requires Windows XP. I wish DosBOX did better at emulating it, since in some games it runs slow, and in other games the sound stutters a lot... etc
mostly because emulating a DOS computer is MUCH more complicated. Also, DOSBox is much newer to the scene vs. console emulators that have been around since the late 90's. There was no need to have a DOS emulator until XP became prevalent as 95, 95 and ?2000? didn't have problems running these games. It'll get there, it gets better with every update.
True classic, one of the best PC games ever!

Nice tip for the fans (if any?): Start a two player game and block the road completely :)
Oh yeah, I remember, if you bounced some walls you actually could take a rideoutside the actual track. There was nothing there though.
