Please do watch all 4 and consider some behind-the-wheel private lessons before your test. In any event, good luck on your test and "drive the car." Going too slow is often the result of being "really nervous" but, gee, don't go too faster either. Drive like Goldilocks! (Just right.)
Thanks for commenting Dizi. My thought, however, is that a test that everyone passes is rather worthless. It seems fair to me that society (the government in a democracy) be allowed to set a minimum threshold (via a drive test) for who gets to hold a valid driver license.
This is a good video, But I have to say they are more looking to fail you than to pass you.
If you fail a test, ask for a copy of your test sheet and definitely question the examiners decision making. I have noticed that a fair chunk of the criteria has nothing to do with improving the safety on the road. I live in Canada and lemme tell you there are far too many winter collisions by people with full licenses. Mean while I know folk who drive illegally with no licence, but theyre safer...
@dizimz In fact, my road instructer said that statistically there is no proof that having a government based road test improves safety at all. In fact most people tend to become more reckless once they pass. You know what they say, drive right for 10 minutes.
Drive Like an asshole for a life time. I mean read the criteria, Im willing to bet a fair chunk on their has nothing to do with road safety. In the end a test here cost 50 bucks.
Sounds like theyre interested in improving revenue to me.
Better luck next time! You don't say where you took your test, but I'd be surprised if it was in California. My clients are typically in their mid 80s and they pass the road test here 80% of the time. And many do so with single-digit scores (on a score sheet that allows for up to 20 errors). Hang in there wherever you are.
went on my road test, and they made me fail. the guy made up reasons why i failed like i didn't shoulder check to my right 1 time, and i went on the wrong side of the road on a one way street! WTF?!?!!??!? so its bs they make all guys fail at least one time.
@1BYEBYE1 I failed once because the route of the exam was completely unfamiliar. I was on a enclosed street that actually divided into 2 lanes (one for going straight and one for right turns) But because the road was soaked and reflecting the sun light I didnt see the lines right away.
There were no warning signs, I went through the route a great number of times after my fail. HE dinged me twice for 1 thing.
And Amie, in just what country do you find really great drivers? I don't understand your point. The California Driver Test is just like any other exam: It sets a minimum level of competency for licensing standards. We have them for doctors, dentists, attorneys and barbers. What’s your point?
Thanks. I’m glad you passed. But I believe most test takers will appreciate the “synergy” that comes from having done both: (1) Watch the video, yes. (2) And take driving lessons from a state-licensed instructor too. Happy motoring!
This is a good way to remember. The driving school may teach driving but you may not remember completely the rules*. Best way is to watch this video for 3 or 4 times that it will be in the mind because i did that way. I keenly watched this video for 5 times so that i could remember whenever i take car..
Thanks, but as I say on my website's home page: "One is most alive when helping others." By posting my video at YouTube I hope I've been able to do just that. Thank you for your kind comment. And happy motoring! Be safe.
You're welcome. Congratulations. And thanks for the kind comments. For most test takers--even those who have been driving for many years--getting some professional driving lessons first are well worth the cost and effort. I highly recommend it.
I can only comment regarding California law, as that is where I'm licensed as an attorney (and driver). That said, here we have a sign that says "SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT" which means, if you are going slower than the other traffic don't even think of going into the fast lanes (to your left). If you stay right, the faster traffic should not tailgate you, but should pass on the left side of your car in one of the faster lanes. As for YOU not tailgating, that's easy: Back off or go right.
Stay with traffic but stay in the speed limit. But don't tailgate anyone or be tailgated? How is that even possible? I live in Vegas and a lot of the time people are doing like 15 over, what do I do then?
I'm sorry you didn't pass. And I'm sorry to repeat myself. But: Yes. Practice with professional lessons from a state-licensed driving school instructor. Good luck next time. As for "specific tips" please watch the video. It has 16 tips. Be sure to watch all 4 YouTube segments as the total video is 32 minutes long.
I failed my first road test this past September. I knew I was nervous and gittery when taking this test. I will be re-taking my test this Wednesday (2 days) in the city of Buffalo. I'm not nervous at all, but do you have any specific tips for city driving? (ie: looking over shoulders, taking my time...) I failed last time at a different location for various things, but I believe that it was my nervousness.
So I failed my road test the first time. It was mainly because I didn't head check before I pulled out. I also had a sketchy parallel park, I was too far away from the curb. Any pointers in how to correct my bad habits?
Hi Counkev... I'm sorry. I'm only "up" on California law. I'd suggest you check with the handbook, etc., for your state or country. (California has "learner's permits" not "provisional" ones.) In California, at least, yes, you would want to show proof of vehicle registration and insurance for the vehicle you are driving for your road test (as shown in my video). You don't have to own it. It could even be a school's car. Good luck to you.
Rock Kendall do I need to have insurance to get my provisional permit or register to get my license or when I am taking the driving test? The care will be insured to my mom though?
OK, Classy. But don't over-do it. Think like "Golidlocks" here... "Just right!" Because you want to watch where you're going too. Good luck on your test. Drive the car. Not too fast; not too slow. "Just right." --Atty. Rock Kendall
I took my test today on the 11th of jan.2011 for the first time and i passed, i was a lil nervous at first, but i kept thinking about getting my licence i was like i have to do this, i took mine in Cunningham,it might be a lil different from other places, If you are in New York and taking it, here is my advice, don't be nervous, it's easy, they are only going to ask you to do the 3 point turn, parallel parking and the turns and see if you are going to stop for the stop signs thats it. Good luck

Gee. Sorry. Seriously, parallel parking is no longer tested in California. And in any event, not something you'll learn from reading. You'll need to practice: Preferably with an instructor and some garbage cans or empty refrigerator cartons (to fill in for real vehicles). Good luck!
im so nervious my driving test is today at 2pm in chula vista ca.. i been watching the vid like 9 times. Pls everyone wish me luck! i really need to pass.
California DMV's handbook says to check your mirrors every 2-5 seconds! So, while doing that, just as well "scan" around at what is beyond your mirrors on the left and the right. EXAMPLE: Regarding your approach to intersections, the DMV says that some drivers do not obey traffic signals so before you enter…
look left,
right,
and ahead for approaching traffic… scanning like there’s incoming fire!
thx very much for uploding this vids bro.....i didnt even know i had to do all of this...i have my test tomorrow at 3pm...hope i pass...thx Rock...u rock..
I passed the test! If I had not seen this video, I probably wouldn't have. I took lessons, but they didn't mention some of these things. Thanks a lot!!!
I hope I'm not responding too late... Go with the flow of other traffic--up to, but not exceeding the speed limit. Good luck! Scan around for other traffic, etc., (bikes, pedestrians) as if in a war zone. --Rock Kendall, Atty
My test is in 1 1/2 hours! I'm nervous, but feel like I'm ready. The only bad thig is that it's raining an I don't know how much slower I need to drive. I don't want to drive too much slower.
My test is this thursday im in CT. I'm really nervous and I know this won't help.
