  • Fantastic -detail - video - I can not thank you enough for sharing your hobby with us. Your a very polite & kind person it shows. Please keep sharing your ship building with us. I used to build wooden boats being retired but no longer can for medical reasons watching you made my day. Cheers

  • cool

  • There's a valuable lesson for all would be modelers to pick up on, test your boats in SHALLOW water! It could've been very bad had your boat sank in 20, 30 or 40 feet of water. I love your attention to detail and hated it when I saw that your boat sank. I'd love to see a modeling get together where these kinds of ships are operating.

  • Excellente réalisation ! Bravo !!

  • Thank you

  • MAGNIFIQUE,FELICITATIONS

    RUFI J.-F.

    Much appreciated

    Ken

  • @keyboardken I managed that too once,.. but as I had a waterpump (not for the firemonitors but for pumping water out) it didn´t do her any harm. Since then I screwed the reardeck (which I splittet into two parts) und every switch is now receiveable from the front... good you got her in working order again... she a wonderful sight on every lake :-)

  • I use the Aziz mostly for Videowork :-) She´s a fine Lady allways doing the best... seaworth and powerfull... On the Video I will post you can see her "at work"..

Thanks for showing some construction pictures!

    Why did she go down?

  • Thank you for your kind comments.

I was talking to people at the lake and forgot to secure the rear hatch before setting sail in the rain and choppy waters.

    Regards Ken

  • what had happened when she fell

  • The story of the sinking has been covered in previous letters.... see below 4 pages

    cheers

    Ken

  • what kind of time goes into building one of these models?

  • Hi There,

I usually take around 3 to 4 months to build my boats. I'm retired so I have a bit of time on my hands.

I'm now on boat 14 and there will be a film when she's finished. have a go go, it's great to achieve something.

    Ken

  • Any advices on where an American can go or what what should one look for if their thinking about starting this hobby and don't know how RC equipment works, or is this a play by ear type thing?

  • @maricklee

Yes. Come and join our club. It's the best on internet and has members from all over the world. We cover all aspects of model boat building. Have a browse and decide on what to build.

    Ken

  • @keyboardken ok,thanks for the link, but I doubt I'd join a club till I'm in collage or something cause I'm out in the sticks of the farm life right now. (I'm just on here during my breaks cause i got nothing better to do.)

  • @crayzzriggs

Very nice of you to say that. Unfortunately it has been purchased and I miss her so much, I might make another one.

    Cheers, Ken

  • were did u buy it

  • The kit was purchased from Model Slipway here in the UK. They have a web site listing all their models.

Watch this space as I'm getting another different model.

    Ken

    Thank you for your interest

    Regards

    Ken

  • wow the boat was Construction do not put the hole later sinking

  • Thank you for your interest.

Have a read through all the comments below.

    Ken

  • did you have to bend any wood to build this?

  • Hi Camy365

Tha model is built entirely of plastic and fibreglass, so no wood was hurt in the making of this boat.

I am at present making a wooden boat and the film should be up here when it's finished.

    Thank you for your interest

    Ken

  • Nice attention to detail

  • Thank you for your kind comments.

I do like building rather than sailing. It's the challenge of the fine details that make it all worth while.

They don't look much when doing the groundwork, but it pays off in the end

    Cheers

    Ken

  • Hey Keyboardken

where did you bye thoes comtainers u have on your ship in scale 1:50 ?

  • lol i want your boat soooooo bad i would pay like 5 grand for that thing

  • Hi MrFatducks

Sorry but she is now gone. I accepted another offer, too good to miss.

I did like this ship and may make another, but as you can see, I have my hands full at the moment.

    (see "More from KeyboarKen")

Just finished boat number 6 and starting boat number 7 soon.

    Cheers

    Ken

  • Hi there.

I've just noticedIi had I had left the previous letter unanswered, and have given them the name of the model boat company. It's Model Slipway, here in England, and I know the owners very well. They are an excellent company to deal with and I recommend them wholeheartedly.

The price is £235 plus VAT. Hope this helps.

    Ken

  • Hi Ken, where can I find a complete kit of this or simular modell? Regards Jan

  • I knew the car needs spare tire.

does the boat need the spare props too???

  • Nothing worst than loosing a Prop at sea, I should imagine it was necessity for these workhorses.

    ken

  • kool ship

  • Thank you. I appreciate your comments. It's a great hobby.

    cheers

  • It's a 6 volt motor which drives a vertical shaft. At the tubes end there is a vertical paddle.

The water is sucked in at one end and propelled through to the tubes and out of other side. There are picture on the build film, so you can see more detail

    Cheers. Ken

  • Beautiful ship!!! I noticed what looks like a bow thruster. What's on the end of the vertical motor that moves the water through the pipe?

  • Have a read of the comments above for the full report

  • How did it sink? Was it a bad shaft seal or something?

  • Welcome all. It's the place to be if you're into model boats.

    ken

  • Thank you for your kind comments

I've had a lot of requests for a movie of her sailing, so I guess I'll make one when the weather improves.

  • I can't wait Ken. I just signed up at modelboatmayhem and I'm in awe of your boats and the other builds over there.

  • Awesome boat. I was shocked when it sank. Totally unexpected 'cause I was waiting for some nice shots of it cruising along the water.

  • from Hovanti

Really nice model there...so, vessels like that actually had a spare screw? That is interesting...

    (copy)

  • Thanks for your comments, hovanti.

I'm sorry but pressed the wrong button to reply, and it was deleted by accident. Cheers

    Ken

  • how did she sink on u??

  • I was distracted and forgot to latch down the hatches. The water was choppy and was forced inside the hull. I could see her getting lower in the water, but couldn't get her back in time.

No damage was done, so all is well

    cheers

    ken

  • Thank you for your comments. I've built a few more since then. Can't seem to stop !!!

  • Thank you. I won't say it's easy, but it sure is fun to do.

    cheers

    ken

  • sweet build i wish i had it

  • thanks you ken i found a hobby store that i didnt even know about in my home town called great hobbies and ordered/baught The Andrea Gail model but its confuzing did your kit come with all the electronics like mortor radio and servos??? peace Articcat4life

  • i bet you would be i work in a boat shop making lobster fishing boats and was thinking in my spare time to make up a mold for this tug i have verry powerfull rc engines somewhere i remember it hauling over 35 lbs dead weight + the boat itself witch was about 30 too so i need to find them i already made a lobster fishin boat out of fibre glass and wood she ran perfect untill she sank and i couldnt find it it cost me over 3000 to build

  • how long did it take you to build just the hull and cabin with out decrotive items like replica items i mean and to paint it did you make it out of fiber glass wood or plastic and how much did it cost to build thanks Arctic cat 4 life

  • Hi there. The boat was in kit form made of fibreglass and plastic sheeting and costs around £320. See Modelslipway's site. I added motors and paint and electronics and extras which took the total coat beyond £500. She took 5 months to build, working most days. She sails very well and I'm so proud of her. ;-). All the best. Ken

  • LOL, best sinking! I bet you were pulling hair out of your head when all that work went down to Davie Jones Jr.

  • Yes indeedy ... I wept at the thought of all that work going under. I've had my leg pulled many time at the boat club. All is well, as no damaged came of it. She is back better than ever now, with a new rear deck sealed down. All the best. Ken

  • Looks fabulous - too much skill & patience for me....

  • Thank you very much. It was a labour of love and quite easy. You should really have a go. It's a fantastic hobby. She took months to build, but well worth it. Cheers..ken

  • kenny she's looking great

    bigford550

  • Thank you very much. The new improved version is now sailing trouble free........... Cheers. Ken.
