Yes there are classes you can learn it by your self but you can seriously hurt yourself if you really don't know what you are doing, which almost happen to me lol. Also for lessons, you probably spend around $150 an hour.

or just dont go for a lesson, instead a take a smaller kite first and learn to control that, then learn surfing by yourself, then when both is done try with a real kite

in italy the base course it's all 180 euros... with the intermediate course you arrive i think to 300 euros... and we live near coast ;)
