  • "You do the best u can for him world"

  • One of the greatest film openings of all time... Michael Mann is king!

  • That sax, ah, wow.

  • Just watched this again for the 10th time. Look, i know this was a shitty time for black people (and others) but look at what it produced! MLKing, MAli, MX, SCooke! All at the same time! Where are their equivalents today! JayZ, lennox lewis, Obama? Pa-lease! These jokers dont come close. I mean forget black ppl, look at ANY Ppl today, look at subsequant generations! Why is it that the only catalyst for greatness seems to be oppression and injustice? Ideas?

  • @julesmnn Maybe people think they have nothing to prove now?

  • Awesome! The greatest opening with the greatest singer singing for the greatest fighter. Well done M.M.! This was one of my favourite films ever. If i had a time machine, visiting Ali during this period would be one of my destinations. Aaha if only

  • One of the best intro's ever. Best part 4:55 - 5:05 Malcolm X, that's what you call charisma.

  • Michael Mann (The director of this film) is a very good director. Look at that editing, camerawork and overall flow!

  • "feel it" and "bring it on home to me". those are the names of the 2 songs...I know someone was asking. best opening scene of all time....great cover of sam cooke...wish I could have seen him live...

  • @jeremiahteuscher I AGREE WITH YOU MAN

  • Let me hear you say "yeah!"

  • great! great!great!

    what an opening!!!

  • One of the best if not the best intro ever.

  • 8:06...I like Angello Dundee's expression right there. He's like "Fuck yeah, we got this."

  • 7:08...David Elliot looks JUST like Sam Cooke right there. that shit is uncanny.

  • the acting by Mario Van Peebles in this montage is spectacular

  • @melTorino I agree. Spectacular! Made me wish they'd make another malcom x movie with him in it!

  • Gives me chills every time I hear Sam Cooke's 1963 Harlem Square Club concert. This is the only movie I know that pays homage to it. Any of you who like this montage, get your hands on that record. Admirable as the performers in this movie are, nothing can match Sam Cooke's moans, and those "oh yeahs." There are studio versions of the songs, but get the live album! It is an invaluable part of American, and human, history.

  • Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me

  • "Pounds of what?"

"Pounds of ugly. That man's so ugly, when he sweat, the sweat run backwards off his forehead just to stay away from his face!"

  • thanks for posting this. this is the best sequence of the entire movie, besides the final knockout sequence of Foreman

  • Wow three classy guys, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke and Ali in one movie, sweeeeet!

  • ... I say you came to the wrong place.

  • ok people imma say it one more time...the beginnging part of ali has two songs...the second song in the opening is bring it home to me..but if u watch the very very begining of this movie when u hear the guy singing..its not bring it home to me..its another song. who is it and whats the name idk..but its not bring it home to me...

  • @eljay32 the first song is a shortened version of Feel It, and the second song is Bring it on Home to Me; both are covers from Sam Cooke's great live album Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963

  • "hes quite younger than me, but we're quite younger than you!"

  • "Carry yourself in a respectable way. An afroamerican way. But at the same time if anyone puts their hand on you, brother you do you best to see they don't put their hand on anyone else AGAIN." I don't know why but that made me tear up and I'm a 21 year old african american male.

  • @Bl4ckM4gic037 Thats probably why....

  • Love Ali but didn't really appreciate that he became a muslim. Like many american black muslims it seemed that he did so as rebellion and not out of true belief to the faith.

  • 4:11 I love how he says that

  • if u talkin bout the very first song playin at the beginning of ali its not called bringing it home to me....try again....( no i dont know the name of it i been looking)

  • @eljay32 Bring it on home to me, Sam Cooke

  • i agree with the person that posted this clip.. it might be the best opening scene of a movie I can think of.

  • This was a very underrated movie Wil Smith was great as Ali maybe a bit too stylish but it was an excellent film. Fight scenes were average except the Liston one, that was great art. Opening scene to me was one of the top 10 opening scenes in the history of filmmaking.

  • i love the combination between the music and the images. simply brilliant.

  • Malcom X, silenced for promoting hope & exposing the TRUTH, along with MLK, Gandhi, William Cooper, John Todd & many many more. All praise be to YaHWeh.

The great "Sam Cooke." If I could sing like Sam, I'd be on the subway, I'd walk up to all them ladies and sing bring it on home to me....

  • @CreateRealWorldPeace William Cooper... I dont think he belongs in the same category as MLK and Ghandi or Malcom X, I never saw Ghandi or MLK or Malcom X for that matter, put a bullet into a public servants head.

  • @CreateRealWorldPeace

I agree I would walk to the too and sing lIke Sam Cooke. I believe He would take my wife If I was Married

  • He looks so pimp..touching his face in the caddy. He actually looks like Ali...cwazy

  • only bad thing about this youtube video is that it cant be turned on even louder :D.

  • great film, Will was killer. Great music too.

  • Excellent work by Michael Mann.

  • i wonder if im related to to Michal Mann we have the same last name

  • great movie intro to a period of time in history, politics, social issues, culture, sport, characters...

  • great movie intro to a period of time in history, politics, social issues, culture, sport, characters...

  • david elliot:

    bring it home to me

  • Ali had his moments. Somethings a bit too slow, but good at overall.

  • what an underrated piece of cinema

  • only good film mann maybe, this & thief

  • I guess you didnt like "Heat"?

  • IVE NEVER BEEN SOOO INSPIRED!

  • i love where michael mann chose to put his name on the screen.

  • this film was so incredibly underrated. I believe it is flawed, yes -- revealing little about Ali that avid fans didn't already know. In that respect, Mann played it a little too safe. But, boy did Will Smith nail this. Ali, was a quiet often somber individual who was an entirely other person when the camera was on. He knew how to manipulate the media and his reputation in an almost Machiavellian manner. I thought the fight scenes were a bit underwhelming though. Oversized gloves? Yeah.

  • @depalma24 The fight scenes were definitely nothing like Raging Bull.

  • Michael Mann is One of The Greatest!!!!!...

  • luis78lx is right. One of the best film openings of all times. Period.

  • easily in my top 5 films EVER

  • I must see this film, soon, very soon. Thanks for the post...xx

  • lol you best get on that its been out for 8 years...

  • someone know the title of the song???

  • sam cooke bring it on home

  • What does he say when he throws his skipping rope down at 6:40 ?

    Can't figure it out :S

  • he either says dead or deere lol

  • Yeah I have always wondered that, might have to whack my dvd in and put the subtitles on.

  • he says "see ya"

  • Yeah, that sounds right actually good spot, cheers.

  • amazing film best boxing film.will smith done this film so good

  • bring it on home

  • What the title of this song???

    It's beautiful film!!!!

  • and yes, michael mann is just higher than any movie maker except the well known well respected Kubric, Spielberg

  • left out the best fucking part when the guy says Ill fuck you up

  • This film is highly inaccurate.

Having Wide World of Sports cover the Clsoed circiut bouts, having Cosell interview ALi after Liston 1, having him find out about the overturned conviction Before Frazier 1, having Quarry as the most recent fight before Frazier not Bonavena, having him slap Terrel at the Weigh In, having Terrel act that Rude, and it wasn't even a weigh in were they exchanged words, plus using a Liston poem for Frazier and not even using the real Frazier Poem, I coulnd't enjoy it.

  • since when have hollywood movies been accurate, its bits of fact spun with the lies, and embelleshed, to reach a broader audience, all for the sake of the buck. get off your high horse tho, clearly ur a big ali fan but u cant deny the beauty in the film making, its excellent, just dont expect a true story next time u watch a biopic

  • Sam Cooke was portrayed by David Elliot who happens to be the son of Dionne Warwick. I had no idea he could sing his ass off like that though.

  • I love Malcolm's speech. " If anyone puts their hands on, my brother make sure they never put their hands on anyone....again.

  • @Stokesd2 can proppa tell you smoke weed totally understand why you love it

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. Yes, it is one of the best openings in movie history (the rest of the flick's only so-so). Beautiful coming-together of music and editing.

  • The opening to this film is amazing, especially the scene 8:14-8:31 when there all marching to the ring. Powerful film and music

    blending so well together.

  • They are actually walking to the weigh in, but close call mate.

  • favorite film! love this opening as well and all michael manns films and even miami vice which the dude downstairs didn't like

  • if this is ur fav film u should try the film the greatest ali plays his self

  • this is amazing...great sam cooke songs and probably the best opening to a any movie. will smith was amazing as Ali...

  • This is pure genius.

  • What a great movie by Michael Mann along with Heat and then we get the sad Miami Vice.

  • @bigbill1991

Dont forget Collateral. (Hmm Im answering to a 3 year old comment..)

  • Thx for uploading this. The dude covering the Cooke songs has a great voice.

The movie rocks too. And this little speech by Malcolm X is very appealing.

We need more of this type of Americans, today. People who can't be fooled and see through the system.

    Anyways, I'm talking too much.

    Great medley!

  • luis is this song bringing it home to me?are you sure?

  • i beleive its a montage of songs. i might be wrong mate. ill ask me dad hes the big cooke fan!

  • The last part is Bring It On Home. They're using the Live At Harlem Square version.

  • Brilliant

  • Whats the name of the first song that sam cooke sings in this.?

  • The name of the song that plays at the end of the movie is called tomorrow. The artist is Salif Keita. I just downloaded it from limewire.

  • They need to make a Sam Cooke movie for real!

  • sure is one of the greatest movie openings

  • denzel washington played malcolm x better than mario

  • duh it's denzel... you can't put denzel in a minor role in the movie

  • this always makes me wanna work out and hit the speed bag i wish i could get this on my ipod

  • The name of this songe is briging it home to me

  • @luis78lx its not the only one ;)

  • @luis78lx you meant "bring it on home to me" right..?

  • @luis78lx the first song is "feel it",the second is"bring it home to me"
