Just watched this again for the 10th time. Look, i know this was a shitty time for black people (and others) but look at what it produced! MLKing, MAli, MX, SCooke! All at the same time! Where are their equivalents today! JayZ, lennox lewis, Obama? Pa-lease! These jokers dont come close. I mean forget black ppl, look at ANY Ppl today, look at subsequant generations! Why is it that the only catalyst for greatness seems to be oppression and injustice? Ideas?
Awesome! The greatest opening with the greatest singer singing for the greatest fighter. Well done M.M.! This was one of my favourite films ever. If i had a time machine, visiting Ali during this period would be one of my destinations. Aaha if only
"feel it" and "bring it on home to me". those are the names of the 2 songs...I know someone was asking. best opening scene of all time....great cover of sam cooke...wish I could have seen him live...
Gives me chills every time I hear Sam Cooke's 1963 Harlem Square Club concert. This is the only movie I know that pays homage to it. Any of you who like this montage, get your hands on that record. Admirable as the performers in this movie are, nothing can match Sam Cooke's moans, and those "oh yeahs." There are studio versions of the songs, but get the live album! It is an invaluable part of American, and human, history.
ok people imma say it one more time...the beginnging part of ali has two songs...the second song in the opening is bring it home to me..but if u watch the very very begining of this movie when u hear the guy singing..its not bring it home to me..its another song. who is it and whats the name idk..but its not bring it home to me...
@eljay32 the first song is a shortened version of Feel It, and the second song is Bring it on Home to Me; both are covers from Sam Cooke's great live album Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963
"Carry yourself in a respectable way. An afroamerican way. But at the same time if anyone puts their hand on you, brother you do you best to see they don't put their hand on anyone else AGAIN." I don't know why but that made me tear up and I'm a 21 year old african american male.
Love Ali but didn't really appreciate that he became a muslim. Like many american black muslims it seemed that he did so as rebellion and not out of true belief to the faith.
if u talkin bout the very first song playin at the beginning of ali its not called bringing it home to me....try again....( no i dont know the name of it i been looking)
This was a very underrated movie Wil Smith was great as Ali maybe a bit too stylish but it was an excellent film. Fight scenes were average except the Liston one, that was great art. Opening scene to me was one of the top 10 opening scenes in the history of filmmaking.
Malcom X, silenced for promoting hope & exposing the TRUTH, along with MLK, Gandhi, William Cooper, John Todd & many many more. All praise be to YaHWeh.
The great "Sam Cooke." If I could sing like Sam, I'd be on the subway, I'd walk up to all them ladies and sing bring it on home to me....
@CreateRealWorldPeace William Cooper... I dont think he belongs in the same category as MLK and Ghandi or Malcom X, I never saw Ghandi or MLK or Malcom X for that matter, put a bullet into a public servants head.
@Rorros666 La primera se llama Feel It, la segunda es Bring it home to me. La version de esta pelicula es interpretada por David Elliot, quien a su vez personifica a Sam Cooke, quien canta estas canciones originalmente y era amigo de Cassius.
this film was so incredibly underrated. I believe it is flawed, yes -- revealing little about Ali that avid fans didn't already know. In that respect, Mann played it a little too safe. But, boy did Will Smith nail this. Ali, was a quiet often somber individual who was an entirely other person when the camera was on. He knew how to manipulate the media and his reputation in an almost Machiavellian manner. I thought the fight scenes were a bit underwhelming though. Oversized gloves? Yeah.
Having Wide World of Sports cover the Clsoed circiut bouts, having Cosell interview ALi after Liston 1, having him find out about the overturned conviction Before Frazier 1, having Quarry as the most recent fight before Frazier not Bonavena, having him slap Terrel at the Weigh In, having Terrel act that Rude, and it wasn't even a weigh in were they exchanged words, plus using a Liston poem for Frazier and not even using the real Frazier Poem, I coulnd't enjoy it.
since when have hollywood movies been accurate, its bits of fact spun with the lies, and embelleshed, to reach a broader audience, all for the sake of the buck. get off your high horse tho, clearly ur a big ali fan but u cant deny the beauty in the film making, its excellent, just dont expect a true story next time u watch a biopic
Thank you so much for uploading this. Yes, it is one of the best openings in movie history (the rest of the flick's only so-so). Beautiful coming-together of music and editing.
