@Requiescat7 i like prs overall they are simply out standing but it depends what sounds you want and what amp your are using but in general to me prs wins every time
Does anyone know how this would sound in Baritone tuning? I'm looking for a guitar that has tone similar to an LP, but lighter than one, and would still retain the clear notes in Baritone. My SE Custom 24 handles it pretty well, so I thought the Mira would be a next step up.
These PRS MIRA 24s are the BEST bang for the Buck. Although Paul from GW is the BEST at demonstrating new Gear, and Guitars , the Amps he uses are definitely effected by gates, compressors, chorus's,etc, you can still get a good representation of the Guitars he demos. After all they are Guitar World. They have to be able to link the Thousands of Guitar related gear in their Videos
Ok I must have been deaf when I last watched this video. It does sound better now, still a bit on the bright side for my taste. I guess it's good to hear the guitar does sound good on 'bright sounding' amp settings. It almost sounds like Paul Weller's Rickenbacker through an AC30 in his days with The Jam :P
The amp is set up with way to much trebble. There's hardly and low end or midds coming trhough wich doesn't do much justice to the guitars sound.
I'm pretty sure this guitar is PRS's take on the allmight SG, though being more versatile with the coiltap and more userfriendly to Fenderplayers who are used to having just one volume and a tone knob (as on a Tele) With that said... I am one of those guys who digs both the basic knob layout and the chrunchy SG sounds.. I better start saving my pennies
Paul is a good player however I think I will stop looking at his reviews. The tone is clouded with to many effects. All his reviews that I have seen, you have no idea what he did to get his sound, is he playing through a $4000 amp? what effects is he using? If you like what you hear don't expect to buy the guitar and for it to sound like what he does. Other (and better) reviewers tell you what pedals and amps they use.
Either get a GOOD PRS, or dont. Besides, Gibson, Fender and PRS arent the only brands, look around, Schecter, Ibanez and others are great too. Its not about the guitar's features, its about how you use them, I dont use any vibratos, but I do like 24 frets, so my PRS would be a Hollowbody, my Gibson a Les Paul and my Fender a strat, think about what you'll use it for, not how shiny it is.
@sam11896 personally I would not like this guitar's tone for metal. The schecter S-1 is almost the same shape, and it is much cheaper. I think that is a great guitar for metal. Overall, if you want to play metal, I would look into schecters or a guitar with some EMG's.
@sam11896 Any guitar as long as it has a good cut away and good pickups can pull off metal quite well. I'm pretty sure these pickups have more of a rock feel especially when you split them. But the best part of this guitar is that it doesn't have one sound.
Just got this sweet guitar a few days ago. I love it! So many sounds out of one instrument. I highly recommend it. Mine is in the cherry finish, and since I got it used, in excellent condition, it was extremely affordable. This will be my "go to" guitar from now on!
0AIIForNaught0 and Newbyrock23, Hey ; thanks so very much you guys for the info. BIG help. I got my Mira, last week. It is VIntage Cherry with the 'birds on the board' and I am completely satisfied. LUV this guitar!
hey congrats on the mira!!!!!! wonderful guitar, i pick mine up next week. if you can please post videos!!!! im sure everyone would love to hear it! Congrats again!
I just ordered my Mira from Guitar Center today. Can't wait to get it . Thanks to everyone here for their input and opinions. Really helps with the decision making process.
(CONTINUED) Lastly, versatile as this guitar is, I wouldn't consider it for extreme genres in either direction. You're NOT going to want this for extreme metal - these pickups aren't "hot" enough and offer more of a vintage metal tone (ala Judas Priest, Ozzy, most 70's/80's metal/hard rock) and it doesn't quite get those Fender Strat, Telecaster tones, but it comes close. Nu/Death/Thrash/Hardcore Metal De-Tuners should look elsewhere 'tho - like Custom 22/24. All said, I LOVE my Mira. 5 outta 5.
@0AllForNaught0 , Hey bro, can you by chance explain to me the specs or the difference between the 'Regular' neck and the 'Wide Thin' neck. I couldn't really get much from the PRS website. thanks =)
the wide thin neck and fat "regular" neck by prs are the exact same width but different depths. in terms of tone, the fat neck is a hair chunkier sounding but not by much. However the playability on the thin is a little faster, but thats prefference. i play both, an sc245 w/ the fat and a custom 24 with the thin. my advice, play both the mira is an awsome guitar! great top 40s kinda deal. does great in any genre.
(CONTINUED) One nice thing about the PRS Wraparound bridge: it makes a superb hand rest - very comfortable. I play in drp D alot and swapped my .046 E string for a PRS .050 gauge and it works perfectly. I personally wouldn't swap the bridge - the PRS version transfers the string vibration to the body in a beautiful resonant fashion. This guitar even sings unplugged (for an electric) and I love it as-is.
(CONTINUED) The nut slots might leave room for exactly one string gauge higher, but no more than that. This is important for anyone who plays in drop/lower tuning like C, B etc. You WILL need to alter/replace the nut, and swap the wraparound bridge (TonePros offers a direct swap, btw for $130.00 u.s.) for one with sliders to set intonation on each string. The PRS wraparound also makes it impossible to set the intonation on a wound 3rd string.
(CONTINUED) Out of the box: The case this thing comes in is built like a brick shithouse, seriously heavy duty. I got the wide-thin neck: the action and intonation were dead on after I tweaked the tuning. This is a f-a-s-t neck - great for shred work, and no fret buzz. Excellent set up. BUT: the wraparound bridge, and nut WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE HEAVIER STRING GAUGES. There are no sliders on the PRS Wraparound bridge to adjust intonation - only set screws that move the ENTIRE BRIDGE at each stud.
(CONTINUED) Versatility: I use a Mesa Triple Rectifier 150 watt Solo w/a Traynor 4 x 12 300 watt w/celestion G12 T-75's (which is a mid-rangey, punchy speaker) and the Mira sings beautifully through my rig, and even sounds great with my Kustom Arrow living room amp. I'd be leary of using this with a bright sounding amp, like a fender twin - it generates plenty of high end on it's own, as I had to dial my treble and presence down even on my Mesa.
I just got mine 4 days ago, and these are my observations so far: fit and finish are second to none. Lovely, lightweight, monolithic and e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y comfortable to play with some well thought out body carves. The Phase II locking tuners are mana from heaven: no winding on the machine heads means you can bend all day, and stay in tune - unbelievable really. Standard Mira PRS strings are .010 - .046, but feel a bit heavier with the shorter (25") scale length. Drop D players will want a .050
i just a mira a couple days and.... its FREAKING AMAZING! u can play ANY style of music, from metal, to country to blues, anything. it plays so good and is very comfortable playing standing or sitting. i recomend this guitar to anyone
How much do you think Paul makes a year...I mean the guy has the best job ever...so i'm assuming he probably makes shit...If they paid him well, that'd be the best goddamn job ever.
You can tell when Paul really likes a guitar as he will play longer on it. I think he really likes this guitar above so many others that I have watched him play. I want one - but I wonder if I am giving up anything having this as opposed to the tone of a Les Paul? I have a 74 Les Paul that is really thick in it's tones.
aye it's not cheap but i guess i't bridges the gap between the SE's and the full on PRS range like the custom 24's, so a good deal if you look it like that i guess lol but yeah still not cheap!
why does a beginner need 'a stack' instead of a good axe? to play arenas?
Maybe what you mean is a good tube amp like a used mesa or marshall _combo_ (which can be had from guitarcenter used, for around 600 if you arent lazy) can be had with the extra cash.
If I were to tell my 14 year old self anything, it would be to buy a PRS first and a tube marshall combo and the usual pedals. Instead I played a cheaper shred guitar (hamer USA) through a marshall half stack and was never inspired
good guitars inspire you to not suck. read interviews of the greats... more times than not, they got a good axe early on to play 12 hours a day on. This guitar is pretty awesome for what they are trying to do. I have a McCarty that I prefer overall... but this thing is fun to play. Its crisp and in your face which I dig.
great ax played it today, couldn't put it down. is it worth the price? only if you're at the performing level. but if you still suck, well no way jose!
i am actually. it's either a gibson les paul custom or another prs 513 in quilted maple. i'm not going to get lessons. i'm content with my shittyness.
I played the Mira a few days ago and it's very good guitar too play on, i tried it with a different amp and different settings and it sounds really great;D;D sorr y my english im not from Englan or America, im from Norway:P
I am completely in love with this guitar. I played over a dozen different PRS guitars yesterday, this one was my favorite. Vintage Cherry, looks awesome!
how is this guitar compared to Behringer's El Torro. It was my first guitar but i have outgrown it now, i want a better guitar, and this would fit the bill.
i love the mira...the lead guitarist in my band uses one and now i'm saving up for one...it sounds great for alternative, blues, hard rock,pop...whatever...plus it looks rad.
Notice how he said "most affordable USA made PRS". As in AMERICAN MADE. Keep in mind the SE line is made in Korea. Not the US. Hence why they cost less.
Sweetwater had a big price drop of many of the PRS line. The Mira went down 200.00 I still don't think it has the sustain the Les Paul does. But, you do hear every little note that comes from it, great detail.
Has anyone here actually heard anything bad about this guitar?
Everyone seems to love it my boss has one and loves it and im seeing them more and more in bands i love.
Ive seen reviews in magazines and demos on youtube and they make it sound like the most rich guitar ever lol. I dont need a metal tone btw just something with good high and low gain compatability but not ultra mega gain with gut renching bottom end.
i like the rawness of the guitar. i dont like many prs guitars because they go too far with the paint job imo. like i feel like if i dented it it would be spoilt but with a more stripped down guitar like this or a strat the will just look better with age lol. This partictular paint job isnt that nice though i dont think.
eh I never bought that. A good guitar will sound good no matter what style your playing. I mean, its's got humbuckers, so to play thrash, death or nu, just turn the gain up on the amp.
yeah, i own a fully loaded McCarty, and the sound is ~ 80% the same and the build quality is almost identical, but the difference is in all the small details and in the feel, you can instantly tell the difference, but in my opinion they're a great deal anyway.
yea but PRS isn't overpriced, its expensive but you get what u pay for, i can't say that for gibson cuz they're "OVERPRICED JUNK" just cuz another company is more expensive doesnt mean they are junk
nope not mad at all because i dont want one i prefer function over form in other words if it dose what i need it to do i dont care what name is on the head stock or what it looks like
You can probably contact PRS from their website and consult a professional staff member as to how you could obtain those knobs. They could either suggest retailers who have stock PRS parts or they could sell you some factory direct.
Paul Reed Smith, Jackson, Fender. Are the only USA guitar companies I have had good dealings with. Besides if I put anymore guitar companies in my screen name here....it would just be annoying.
please if your going to play like bluesy or whatever clean sounding matierial take the slight bit of gain off, if u wanna play clean play clean not with horrible gain on like u r using.

The humbucker mode sounds warm and mellow and when split into single coils they sound bright and glassy. =]

The Wide thin is comfortable I don,t know about the regular neck.
captainspooneye 2 years ago
i heard they have fat necks... it that true
mrboverbro 2 years ago
No, I tried one yesterday. It was about as thin as my Eclipse's neck. I loved it. I have to get me one.

i love the mira...the lead guitarist in my band uses one and now i'm saving up for one...it sounds great for alternative, blues, hard rock,pop...whatever...plus it looks rad.

Notice how he said "most affordable USA made PRS". As in AMERICAN MADE. Keep in mind the SE line is made in Korea. Not the US. Hence why they cost less.

i played this its fucking awesome

Most affordable huh? all the Miras are over $1,000!!! And its bad to buy at this economy
CiviC092 2 years ago
yeah but if you compare this guitar to a custom 24 which is like 3,000 dollars, this is affordable
sgrocker45 2 years ago
they make a mira model with SE in front of mira that are cheaper but there made in asia somewhere
budbud619 2 years ago
yeah there manufactured in korea

its not on the website though 0.o

he said 'most' affordable prs
carty1995 2 years ago
Sweetwater had a big price drop of many of the PRS line. The Mira went down 200.00 I still don't think it has the sustain the Les Paul does. But, you do hear every little note that comes from it, great detail.
hog427 2 years ago
Les Paul isn't as playable though. Gonna buy one of these just because it plays so nice and has good tone
DontWetYourself 2 years ago
hey here is a good question!
Has anyone here actually heard anything bad about this guitar?
Everyone seems to love it my boss has one and loves it and im seeing them more and more in bands i love.
Ive seen reviews in magazines and demos on youtube and they make it sound like the most rich guitar ever lol. I dont need a metal tone btw just something with good high and low gain compatability but not ultra mega gain with gut renching bottom end.

all time low?

I love prs.. but I dont like this model, its just so plain..
victorandrada 2 years ago
i like the rawness of the guitar. i dont like many prs guitars because they go too far with the paint job imo. like i feel like if i dented it it would be spoilt but with a more stripped down guitar like this or a strat the will just look better with age lol. This partictular paint job isnt that nice though i dont think.
jwalsh8 2 years ago
I thought the Mira looked rather bland... Then I saw it in a whale blue flamed maple finish :)
EscpdFrmPsykward 2 years ago 2
I'm going to be testing out a custom 22 and a mira next weekend. The mira is slowing growing on me. But fuck do i love the look of the C22.
IcariumTheLost 2 years ago
is this a good metal guitar?
steamkidsdad 2 years ago
Depends on what metal your playing. Traditional metal you can pull off with this guitar, but not thrash, death or nu-metal.
IcariumTheLost 2 years ago
eh I never bought that. A good guitar will sound good no matter what style your playing. I mean, its's got humbuckers, so to play thrash, death or nu, just turn the gain up on the amp.
SJP444 2 years ago
Try esp for metal. Best metal guitars, although a modded out Telecaster is sick(Disciple)
rokr432 2 years ago
Man I want a PRS soo bad, why do I have to be poor...WHY!!!!!!
2ndDayRiffs 2 years ago 2
u could get a se virsion there cheaper around 670 dollars i think and there just as good to same quality just made in korea
steamkidsdad 2 years ago
there's no Mira SE. The SE Custom/C24 is the best SE there is.
slanderoushalo 2 years ago
yeah, i own a fully loaded McCarty, and the sound is ~ 80% the same and the build quality is almost identical, but the difference is in all the small details and in the feel, you can instantly tell the difference, but in my opinion they're a great deal anyway.

xboxliveman177 2 years ago
there are more expensive prs guitars than gibson guitars
thebassnguitarman 2 years ago
yea but PRS isn't overpriced, its expensive but you get what u pay for, i can't say that for gibson cuz they're "OVERPRICED JUNK" just cuz another company is more expensive doesnt mean they are junk
xboxliveman177 2 years ago
i agree prs is waaaaaaaaaaay better than gibson!

crazybri311 2 years ago
nope not mad at all because i dont want one i prefer function over form in other words if it dose what i need it to do i dont care what name is on the head stock or what it looks like
bloozelover 2 years ago
Junk? That's an odd statement as PRS is considereed throught the industry to be the highest quality production guitars.
SJP444 2 years ago
where can I get those type of knobs........??
frogscar 2 years ago
You can probably contact PRS from their website and consult a professional staff member as to how you could obtain those knobs. They could either suggest retailers who have stock PRS parts or they could sell you some factory direct.
evilvon 2 years ago
music stores ive seen those nobs at toms music where im at. if im not wrong they look the same

some big professional guitar store near u

YOU ARE RIDICOLOUS
000FOXagent000 2 years ago
Wouldn't it be better if you buy a les paul standard for the money? I am just asking...
dynamitesteel 2 years ago
No.
Gibsons are jokes, if you want a good Gibson you better look into the vintage market. otherwise buy a new Paul Reed Smith
evilvon 2 years ago 2
i agree. the only reason i think that the only reason why gibson got big is b/c slash used them.
gbsons 2 years ago
Gibson were a large company before the electric guitar was even made.
Les Paul used his Gibson Les Paul and made the guitar famous. Also Jimmy Page helped make the Les Paul a staple in rock before Slash did.
evilvon 2 years ago 2
Not forgetting Eric Clapton! That man did more for the Les Paul/Marshall combination than anybody!
funkyneil2000 2 years ago
when Mccarty was at gibson, from i think it was like 1957 - 1978 or somthing like that, it was considered the "golden age" for gibson,
but until McCarty died he worked for prs.
if you want to drop money on a gibson, he is right get a classic model. Otherwise prs is the way to go

joekkl 2 years ago
Paul Reed Smith, Jackson, Fender. Are the only USA guitar companies I have had good dealings with. Besides if I put anymore guitar companies in my screen name here....it would just be annoying.
PrsFenderJackson1980 2 years ago
please if your going to play like bluesy or whatever clean sounding matierial take the slight bit of gain off, if u wanna play clean play clean not with horrible gain on like u r using.
