the armoured land rovers you refer to are called "snatch" land rovers, built on 110 chassis, with a light amount of armour but not enough to hold up against an RPG or other explosive

Many soldiers prefer the visibility of an open vehicle - like the SAS for example. Many Hummers have also been destroyed. The problem is you shouldn't use a soft skinned vehicle where you need proper armour. And it's no good trying to up armour a soft skinned vehicle either - use a Warrior or Chyallenger if that's what you need!!!

Not totally true, the off road vehicles you have mentioned (Hummer etc) have been proven on a number of accounts to have quite bad off road capabilities, on that count I would always choose a land rover as they are proven vehicles. For patrols however, for sheer ability to defend its occupants and armour then yes I think most people would choose a hummer, although I have no experience with the armoured land rover (yet lol) so I cannot be 100% accurate on that but still a very good vehicle.

How long do you think occupants of a defender will last under ak fire? The hummer is a system; armorable, mountable 50 cal, cannon, etc. - the defender is a glorified jeep - for transporting softies - way behind your own line of defense. When sh*t hits fans, which unit are you gonna junp into?

the wmik has actually had armoured plates inserted all around and actually i would jump into the landy as first of all it is quicker to get out of dodge and will not break down and secondly it has more weapons, hthis is why we have opted for the same layout with the new supacat

it is sadly true that the british army have selected an italian made offroader as its next troop 4x4... but this is only because its bigger and can carry more armour. the MOD still says that for a 4x4 of its size nothing can out perform the standard defender! the Hummer as big and solid as it may be did not even get a look in!!! defenders will be on MOD shopping list as a standard small 4x4 for years!!!
