@blccleaning I can't prove the non-existence of something that's impossible, it is possible to prove the existence of something and none of the religion can do that. that's why I became an athiest, religion seems to be against everything that's fun and feels natural to me so i reject it.
@MrROTD actually you can prove the nonexistence of god if you can prove that the concept of god actually contradicts itself. which it does many times over.
I'm a huge Carolla fan and I heard Penn on The Adam Carolla Podcast when Penn was promnoting his book. "God, no!" I agree w/ Penn here because as an atheist, I'm so tired of hearing these fake-christian politicans DUPE these Americans who honestly think they are Christians. Valid point here, Penn and just so you know, Adam is always complimentary towards you...but if you disagree w/ something - voice it. Cheers. Just got your book...
Penn is such a bitch. On his show he tries to offend and bad mouth everyone. Now he cries because someone said "God Bless America"? Says he was offended? Get over it! This asshole learned to pull a rabbit out of a hat and now he thinks he can tell people what to think and how to feel about political and social issues. BORE
Why don't the two people arguing in the comments just get it over with and blow eachother? They obviously love each other to keep fighting over stupid shit.
He was in the "losers" section. Shocking. Time for a haircut anytime, dude. And lose the loser beard. Penn Gillette is what's wrong with America. An overpaid (yet out of work) unfunny guy with too much time on his hands who criticizes someone who IS funny, and then kisses his asshole. THEN he puts this stupid video on youtube, as if anyone agrees or gives a crap.
How does Penn find anything about Adam Carolla funny, smart or interesting. Just lost quite a bit of respect for Penn. Adam is is savvy enough to make money on radio, tv and podcasts, but smart? Nope, he is ignorant and goes for the obvious rants.
Now, I'm not trying to start an argument, just asking a question: Isn't Atheism, in a way, it's own kind of religion? You have a Messiah (Charles Darwin) a set of beliefs or "commandments" (there is no God, humans descended from apes, etc.) prophets (Penn Jillette, Adam Carolla, etc.). If a person wants to be atheist, fine. Just because I believe differently doesn't mean I'm right or better than anyone else. And the same goes for atheists.
@robwithanr Someone, jb9999999ify, politely lays out a legitimate question, including valid points for an argument, and you answer with a joke. Ha,ha,ha. Everybody laughed. Now please, seriously answer the question. Don't just rely on going for the easy way out of ridiculing people and not at all addressing the issue and how it pertains to the belief (Atheism) you say is yours.
@CSWRB — My response wasn't a joke and I did not ridicule anyone. I don't know if people laughed or not, but if they did, good. I like making people laugh. Also, I think my 'joke' addressed the question succinctly. Think about it. If it did not satisfy you, that's your problem. Oh, and jb9999ify had NO problem with my answer, and even said, "All I was doing was asking a question. It could've been answered as easily as "robwithanr" responded." They didn't want confrontation, so why do you?
Yes, when people start getting overly vocal and so adamant about Atheism, it is totally becoming its own religion. People get a little bit fanatical about it and that's exactly the problem with religion. It'd be nice if everyone could be libertarian, but most people who say they are, really aren't. 99% of people need to convince others to think the same way they do. And sometimes it bleeds into Atheists.
@dwdrader So all it takes for something to be considered a religion is that people get overly vocal and adamant about it? So then politics, sports, pop culture, etc. are ALL religions? And how does someone get "a little bit fanatical" about something? That seems like an oxymoron to me.
Yeah, that's EXACTLY what I was saying: that to be considered a religion all you need to do is get vocal. Fuck, if you want a serious debate then don't be obtuse and feign misunderstanding. The only thing worse than being ignorant is pretending to be ignorant to avoid other people's valid points.
@dwdrader Hey, don't get pissed at me because YOU said something stupid. I simply took what you said to another conclusion. The only thing worse than being ignorant is being ignorant and claiming that ignorance is a "valid point". Atheism is a lack of belief in a god, and that is all.
Yeah, thanks for explaining what Atheism is to me... but people get fanatical about Atheism and thus, that ends up being their religion. People who get fanatical about THEIR non-belief in God and pushing it on others are doing the exact same thing that causes many people, including myself, to turn my back on organized religion in the first place. Does that make ANY sense to you, or will you continue putting on your little ruse of not getting it?
@dwdrader OK, so where we differ is in our definition of 'religion' AND of 'fanatical'. When someone starts blowing up or flying airplanes into buildings in the name of NO god, then I'll call atheism fanatical. Until then, when you use the word fanatical, it appears you are equating rigorous debate with REAL violent religious fanaticism, which I can't take seriously. But I get you now: It's when people push ideas on others. I still don't think that makes anything a religion, but whatever.
I'll answer the first question if you can ask it without putting on the affect. As for the second question: think of it this way: Do people go from being soft on an issue to all of a sudden turning a hard right and going extreme? Or is it more of a process? People don't just automatically change from being hard left to hard right. Or maybe you see it as one of thongs that's either totally black or totally white.
@dwdrader Elaborate on the relevance of what you're saying. The tendency for people to ease into new ideas has what to do with whether or not atheism is a religion? Also, my thongs are often black AND white. I'm kinky like that.
If it's not relevant to you, specifically, then you shouldn't even be replying. You replied to someone's opinion with a question. I tried to explain a different point of view to you. You either don't get it, or choose to pretend you don't get it. you see everyth'o'ng in black and white so there's no elaborating on anything. You have your mind made up and you choose to not take it in. That's all.
@dwdrader You're right. Why should I bother trying to better understand someone else? What opinion did I respond to with a question? And please, do not make such incorrect and general statements about me. Nothing says IGNORANT like someone stating, as fact, conclusions about someone based on like, 8 comments on a Youtube video. C'mon now.
You need me to point out where you responded with a question? You have a scroll up feature on your computer... use it. And now you're putting on the indignant, outraged act? You're hitting all of the marks of the message board flamer checklist.
@dwdrader I see a few questions, none of which seem to be particularly inflammatory. The reason I asked YOU, is because you obviously have some extreme aversion toward what I asked. Am I a mind-reader? Am I supposed to know what question in particular you're so butthurt about? And who is outraged? Me? Why, because I pointed out the idiocy in judging a stranger based on Youtube comments? Yeah, I must be fuming. It's evident with my use of profanity... Oh wait, that was you. Angry person, you.
@dwdrader I remember a comparative religions class I took in college (because, you know, I see everything in black and white and am really close-minded about others' religions). The first chapter asked, "What is religion?" The answer the book gave is probably the best definition I've heard, and when I tell you, maybe you'll see why I have a hard time calling atheism a religion. — "Religion is human transformation in response to perceived ultimacy."
@dwdrader Ever consider the possibility that you might not be as smart, clear, & well-spoken as you think you are? I think I've hit the main points quite well, & you continue to drone on about me feigning understanding or avoiding questions. It's boring, really. Or is THIS just an 'act' of yours that you are going to keep up to inevitably tell me that I just "don't get it" or something? It's simple. Point out precisely what you want me to address, and I'll do it. This isn't rocket appliances.
1: Where did I say I want you to address anything?
2: You're still doing an act, especially by saying 'it's boring' but continuing to reply at least twice to each message I post. Everything you say is message board flamer cliche 101.
3: Judging someone on a comment section based on their comments is upsetting you? Is there something else I should use to judge you by? All you have on a comment section are the comments you've made. If you were REALLY bored, why reply?
@dwdrader You talk ad nauseum about me not understanding, yet I'm still waiting for you to enlighten me. I'll ignore your baseless accusations & just wait for you to say something of substance. Until then, I'm going to assume you not only took Flamer Cliche 101, but you got perfect A's all the way through 401. Furthermore, I reply despite being bored because I have hope (perhaps naively) that you might say something intelligent instead of silly 'flamer' claims. [cue Jeopardy theme]
You need me to explain that people who get militant about atheism are now making atheism the same thing as religion. Your claim of being bored is nullified by the fact that you seek the extending of this. And, I've taken a little look at your history on youtube and I now see what I'm dealing with. This is your hobby. From mundane to monotonous, this is just what you do. Except for your groundbreaking opinions on Nickelback being a crappy band. Enlightening. I'm done.
@dwdrader LOL That's your big finale? We already discussed the fact that we have differing definitions of religion. That was your beef? So yes, I STILL don't think that people getting militant makes atheism a religion (or a human transformation in response to perceived ultimacy). And nice last ditch attempt at an ad hominem. Stalking my youtube history because you have nothing else to turn to? And a two-year-old comment about Nickelback? Sweet, bro. You're done? I didn't even know you started.
Still more trolling 101. The allegation of 'stalker' because I clicked a link... Weak. By the way, didn't way it made Atheism a religion. Reading comprehension: F minus.
@dwdrader Haha, again, your strategy: Claim everything I do is either trolling or flaming. Good strategy, bro. And "By the way, didn't way it made Atheism a religion."? HERPADERP Writing/typing/proofreading = F MINUS.
Show me where I said 'everything' you do is trolling or flaming. I simply state that THIS, what you are doing, day in, day out, on this topic, is trolling. You keep dancing for my attention. My favorite part of this shtick of yours is when you say you're bored by it, but then you can't wait to reply which proves you a troll, a liar and purely disingenuous. Why not enlighten us with more thought-provoking shtick. No...not more opining on how 'Nickelback sucks'. Weak
@dwdrader Show you? "You have a scroll up feature on your computer... use it." :P Ha. Besides, I assumed when I said "everything", you would be smart enough to know I meant "everything I've said thus far in the comments for this video," but I suppose I overestimate your intellect. And YEAH, I must be pissing myself with excitement waiting to reply to you, which is why I am now replying to a comment from 17 hours ago. Derp.
@dwdrader obnoxious atheist a $ $ hole makes contradictory nonsensical remarks, news at 11. what this douche will never admit is the total and complete futility of doing anything, accomplishing anything, or loving anything (or anyone). if he really wants to go to the mattresses over his pseudo religion (his enthusiasm makes clear this is his primary concern) he acknowlege that everything is pointless. my guess is he's not man enough.
Yawn... a whole lot of typing but never says anything. And what's amazing is that you say nothing but you're illiterate about it. Try it again, but do it in your first language this time.
Yeah, dance for his attention too you little monkey. Hey everybody! Look how high I can jump! Look at me! I have awesome opinions like... Nickelback sucks. And the music industry is to blame for bad music. Jesus, you claim that's 2 years old.. point us to something new, relevant and somewhat irreverent that you've posted. Unless you haven't. I'm done with you. You've just run out of gas and I'll show you how to back up the 'I'm bored of you' statement.
@dwdrader I was curious because I can't tell. They might have been referring to me, which is fine, but you seemed to take offense by saying "YOU say nothing but YOU'RE illiterate about it", as if you thought they were referring to you. OR, you're just dull & meant to say 'he' (myself). It could go either way, really. So how bout you enlighten everyone with your opinions of 'reality shows' or the Kardashians. Those are absolutely mind-blowing. Uh oh, I'm officially a stalker :D God bless.
@eqsmooth Awwww, why the hateful words? All I was doing was asking a question. It could've been answered as easily as "robwithanr" responded. There was no need for name calling. I wasn't trying to insult Atheists or put them down in any way. I was just curious is all.
@armourdude1 pen tells lies to get to the truth..if you'll notice, he says that no one watches DWTS and he only did it to sell tickets to his show..and the next sentence he says he can't believe the bitterness of the other losers.
here's a hint to properly understand this type of thought: every statement he makes, believe he's saying the opposite.. then add it up in the end and voila.. if you need more lessons on understanding pen's magic... just subscribe and i can help you make it big
Why would saying god bless America offend you if you dont believe in a God at all? If an athiest is told "God bless you". Why can it not just be accepted someone being nice in their own way?
@armourdude1 "God Bless America" is something completely different. It's not simply a way of expressing our endearment to the US. It's printed on our currency, used in political speech and addresses, etc... And this is part of what enforces the (completely false) concept of this being a christian nation and makes people forget one of the most important parts of the constitution and its amendments - that the government cannot endorse or promote any favor for a particular religious institutions.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb A concept of an overall belief is not necessary promoting a religion. God as an expression is use by non believing people all the time. Like “Oh My God” or “Dear God” or even as “God Damm it”. Swearing on the Bible may mean nothing to you or I but we could still do to show how serious we are. As far as being a Christian nation goes the sorry truth is that most people still want believe in God This concept gets support by the people consciously or sub-consciously.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb You forget the country was started by religiius nuts wanting to get away from the church of England to do their own thing, The puritain put religion in everything and eventualy the country got started based on those ideas. Is the United states a christain country? maybe 60 years ago when 90% people when to church it is closer to maybe 10% now But was the United States founded on biblical principles i thinks so just by default how can you argue it?
@armourdude1 It's not, because the constitution explicitly says no religion gets special attention at all. And most of the founding fathers were not religious. Many were basically atheists. And the reason religion was to be separate from government was to protect CHRISTIANS from being persecuted, not to stop Christians from persecuting. So it's Hypocrisy that that Christians endured that persecution, eventually became the majority and started insisting this is their nation.
Also, this nation is not founded by biblical principles, it is founded on common sense basic rights. The right to speak against the government without being killed, the right to defend yourself from the government and its subjects, etc... In fact, most of the "biblical principles" that our laws are based on and aren't just superstitious nonsense were taken from laws that already existed around the world (particularly in Egypt.) The bible isn't a source of morality, we are the bible's source.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb Most people back then had few books but they all had bibles it was cultural thing. Just about everyone learned to read using a bible because that’s all they had. So you’re telling me all that religious influence did not play a factor in the creation of the United States? They put the word God in just about every legal document they wrote. Believing in God or at least a concept is not promoting a Religion. Not In the eyes of the original Founders anyway.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb Here is one for you. Ronald Regan was speaking though an interperter to Michael Gorbchov. Goby said soming with the word God in it. Regan tasked if he believe in god. The reply was that it was just a common saying. My point is that Using the word God is more of a cultural thing then a religious promotion and i think it always has been, So why get all bent out of shape about it now? Come on OMG or for Gods sake, God Dam it, Jesus Christ get with it.
@armourdude1 Hanging onto and accepting things just because everyone does them is useless and pointless, and it allows for backwards thinking and conservativism simply for the sake of being conservative.
@Makingnewnamesisdumb There is nothing wrong with being of a conservative mind it does not have to mean you’re a religious fruitcake. You are missing my point, I am not saying that we have to keep the status que, you are very optimistic if you think you are going to change a 300 years of culture in a decade. You dont have too equate a belief in a higher power with only Christianity. Many People like to believe in a God or something but don’t hold to Biblical principles.I am cool with that.
@armourdude1 I didn't say that being conservative is bad, I said that being conservative just for the sake of being conservative is both undesirable and pointless.
I'm not singling out christianity - all religions support superstition like this. They are all interesting, but they are all ineffective at governing and accounting for the needs of people. The idea that you "like" believing doesn't mean you have good reason to do so and doesn't mean anyone should pay attention, positive or not.
guess what? adam does lack respect for religious people. he doesn't share your belief that you need to love everyone. so i guess that ruins your whole thing.
@toobsucker Because some religions contradict themselves, i.e. the Epicurus argument. We can't know if a god exists, but we can know that specific gods (as they are described) do not exist. Parodies like the flying spaghetti monster or the flying teapot are actually more plausible than commonly worshiped gods because they do not have contradictions.
@PoweredBy "Because some religions contradict themselves, i.e. the Epicurus argument. We can't know if a god exists"
You can't logically conclude what does and does not exist throughout the entire universe based on your interpretation of text written by men with limited understanding. Your reasoning is not sound to begin with. Under your hypothesis Gods chances of existing are determined by the amount of (and lack thereof) the perceived contradictions in the texts that predict his existence
@Powered"flying spaghetti monster or the flying teapot are actually more plausible than commonly worshiped gods because they do not have contradictions."
Flying spaghetti monster and flying teas pots have never been observed to exist. So of course they are blatant contradictions. and not logically sound concepts
Other life existing is logically sound. Other life with superior intellects and attributes is also logically sound. The logical inferences for Gods existence are firmly established
@toobsucker I observed a flying teapot the other day. You've never seen one? You have to believe, deep within your heart.
And next time give an example of a contradiction, as I did with Epicurus. You'll quickly find that there aren't any. Don't you remember middle school English classes? Hello? Supporting arguments?
@PoweredByMagnets "I observed a flying teapot the other day. You've never seen one? You have to believe, deep within your heart"
You see more than flying teapots.
You see flying teapots flying behind flying spaghetti monsters flying behind Santa Claus all in prefect formation.
The concept of chemical reactions creating the cell with over 250 molecular machines all perfectly conserved (can not evolve) along with multiple overlapping codes to create over 50 billion conserved proteins is LOL.
@zzyzx0788 "Ahh irreducible complexity. The last bastion of creationists"
You have failed to realize irreducible complexity spelled forwards is UCE. The many proteins that need to be precisely arranged in order to function are also totally conserved. Conserved elements falsify Darwinian evolution but the majority Darwinian evolutionists seem to have no idea the implications the UCE have.
I.C. and UCE is a double edged sword
Within 10 years Darwinian evolution will be thoroughly falsified
Your attempting to prove evolution in a backwards fashion. Evolution is verified by forward evolving protein folds, not by I.C.
Protein folds do not evolve. Also there are over 300 molecular machines I.C. needs to deal with. The ribosomes alone have over 300 proteins that are 100% conserved in all species.
Conserved elements falsify Darwinian evolution anyway so your point is moot
@toobsucker Actually, no where in my two statements did i mention Evolution.. I simply said that I.C. is a lame excuse for saying evolution is wrong, and its proven that things like the eye and flagellum can evolve naturally.
As i do not really know about conserved elements as of now, I can't really debate you on that subject.
@caleab26 "Actually, no where in my two statements did i mention Evolution"
I.C. and Ken Miller are only used in reference to evolution.
You didn't understand what I told you. Evolution is not proven by reducing proteins and still keeping functionality. Evolution is proven by forward evolving protein folds and producing functionality
Your going in the wrong direction to prove evolution.
You still have over 300 more machines to deal with. The most important (ribosomes) are I.C. anyway
I am an athiest, and I'm not offended at all. Penn is an arrogant idiot that chases the word God and argues over it. What a big, dumb annoying douche.
WTF? Obviously the whole speech was a satire! The applause was both for his joke and USA, not God.. Plus "God bless America" is such a common, pro-USA phrase that ppl feel obligated to applaud. They're not analyzing whether it reflects true American values LoL!
And why was Penn applauding?
If he's referring to Adam as a sore loser he's wrong again. Ace didn't care about losing but finds it ironic to kick off the most entertaining guy, which is true. I'm a huge Penn fan but he's off here.
@TheFreezer872 If you've ever been to a live performance there is often someone there just before the end of the set requesting everyone in the audience to applaud. Not to mention as a performer Penn likely feels obligated to applaud out of respect. Adam's comment was a bit over the top and disrespectful to those who do believe in god. Especially since he's gone on record prior saying he doesn't believe in god.
@l1f3l3555 He was also whistling but ya, he'd feel obligated anyway much like Americans after a "God Bless America" cheer.
Adam wasn't disrespectful at all. Sure it was a satire, but that last statement had a "America Fuck Yeah" connotation, not one of religion or mockery. And this is exactly why Carolla isn't an atheist activist because they do this shit all the time: nitpicking and critiquing every word.
Many atheists say "God Bless" simply out of habit. It's a non-issue.
@TheFreezer872 in gaelic we say the country then forever like abla gu brath scotland forever maybe americans shud say america forever coz uv alot of celt in america
I'm all for making fun of religious folks, but doing it to their faces but in a way they couldn't be expected to recognize is both cheap and cowardly. I expect better of Adam.
I don't know if I find "god bless america" as satire. I think it is just a recognized phrase like "to infinity and beyond" Whether you believe in god or not you can still probably recognize the meaning of the words.
Shit. I thought Penn would blast Corolla for being a hypocrite by saying "God Bless America" when he is an atheist, and Penn would be correct. But apparently Corolla was only kidding and Penn thinks that wasn't "polite". Who gives a shit about disrespect? Religion and religious people are not to be 'respected' for their fairy tale beliefs.
@2:15 but Penn with all do respect it would be almost impossible to do comedy without offending somebody, and Adams brand of comedy is sure to offend a lot of people. He's not for everyone. I'm sure you would admire his ability to do HIS OWN brand of comedy regardless of the fact that not everyone finds it funny, and indeed some even take offense. I hated(as did Adam) the fact that he had to be censored on the radio and now that he's online and free from censorship he's doing quite well.
It was because of the fact that a small minority took offense to saying the pledge of allegiance in school that it can no longer be said by anyone in public schools in the United States.
If Adam worried about catering to everybody's beliefs to avoid offending a small minority than it would be nearly impossible to make a joke and thus everybody would miss out. I don't agree with everything Adam says but Big F-ing Deal nobody does(or should for that matter)!!
Voting on art is wrong, you mean like the Greeks did? I think voting on art has the potential to inspire artists to reach ever higher.
Also, Ayn Rand used the phrase too, and she explained exactly how an atheist can use that term without hypocrisy. It can mean something like, "The best for America, or the highest for America."
I am talking about whether voting on art is good for art. I am not saying the Greeks were perfect but that they were great artists. Voting on art clearly inspired the Greeks to produce some truly amazing drama. It made them fight and put everything they could into their art.
Penn Juilett claims to be a capitalist. As far as I can see, selling art is an awful lot like voting on art and giving the winner a reward---which is what the Greeks did and what shows like DWTS do.
Forget the atheist part, the jingoism of "god bless America" is what is truly disgusting. To imply we are deserving of special dispensation via god has real world consequences of making it ok to use force against those that stand against "god's chosen country"
I say "God bless" from time to time, but sometimes it's satire, and sometimes it just comes out of my mouth because I was raised with religious views before I became a free thinker.
I understand what Penn is saying but, Carolla is still a genius!
I agree with Penn here, it was funny because i personally knew that it was satire, but it is pretty crass to say something like that seemingly earnestly to an audience that dosent know any better.
I could see Carrolla saying "god bless america" as satire if he truly thought that everyone was going to get it. Then after being mistaken and hearing the crowd cheer not wanting to draw more attention to it by saying "oh no everyone I was making a joke I thought you would get that."
But I agree with Penn that if he wanted to go above their heads as a joke that it would be in bad taste.
I'm a big fan of adam, but I'm with Penn on this one. I like how Penn is careful not to use any religious colloquialisms in his day-to-day speech. I know everyone wants to cut Adam some slack because he was just using it for comedic purposes, but it's important to think of the effect language has on people.
The inescapable conclusion then about Penn Jillette is:
a. Penn Jillette is a Zionist, a secret but proud believer in the INVISIBLE HOMICIDAL RACIST CLOUD FATHER OF THE HEBREWS, who only pretends to be an atheist so he can freely attack all religions except his own; or
b. a cynical dancing monkey fat fuck errand boy Zionist shill, who is an atheist but is paid to attack all faiths except the deadliest & costliest in his lifetime -- Zionism.
Ongoing Zionist atrocity against the Palestinians is the major religion-based terror inflicted on the world in Penn Jillette's lifetime, and it has been paid for in the hundreds of billions by US tax dollars and unlimited military support.
On two counts then -- unjustified government expenditure, and government policy and state-sponsored mass murder based on religious belief -- Zionism would seem to be exactly what Penn Jillette claims to be passionately opposed to, yet he is silent.
While Zionists will claim their's is a secular political movement, its goal is to establish the "Jewish homeland." Zionists claim a mystical connection to mythical nomadic tribes who thousands of years ago had an INVISIBLE RACIST CLOUD FATHER who told them they were special and should enslave or kill the rest of humanity, gave them the desert east of the Mediterranean and told them to kill any other tribes they found there.
Penn's Viacom TV show is owned by uber-Zionist Sumner Redstone.
While Penn Jillette claims to be a "militant atheist," given thousands of opportunities he has never addressed the fanatical Zionist doctrine of Palestinian apartheid and genocide. Amnesty International, as well as humanitarian Jews worldwide including Noam Chomsky, Tony Judt, and Sir Gerald Kaufman have condemned Israel for war crimes against the Palestinian people, for imprisoning them in walled ghettos and bombarding them with the most sophicitcated weaponry the US has ever produced.
Penn Jillette shills for the ExxonMobil-funded Cato Institute corporate propaganda mill. Cato lobbies against all corporate regulation, environmental protection, and anything that makes life bearable for working people. Cato claims to be "libertarian" but is really espousing old school right wing whack job John Birch Society winner take all and fuck the rest lunacy, with legalized hookers and drugs thrown in to seduce young people and working people to vote against their economic interests.
Penn, most of Adams comments during his time on the show were more edgy and irreverent than anyone's in the history of this show. I actually cringed a couple of times, wondering if the show's core viewers could handle some of his abrasive jokes. Little did I think the outspoken Penn couldn't deal with a little Adam shtick. He was there to try to be funny, not to be an atheist cheerleader. Penn, you need to have a sense of humor, even if the humor rubs your personal views the wrong way.
How does a magician become this arrogant. That show 'bullshit' is the most self-indulgent show on TV, and it confuses me as to why he has appointed himself the expert on every subject.
Oh wahhhhh you fucking blow hard. You hint towards the idea of integrity but preface your statements by saying you only did the show to sell more tickets. What a fucking tool.
This was an off-the-cuff, semi tongue-in-cheek comment that wasn't intended to "boost his career" by pulling one over on America. Adam wasn't mocking theists, he was satirically using a common phrase that's become a part of our lexicon.
@blccleaning I can't prove the non-existence of something that's impossible, it is possible to prove the existence of something and none of the religion can do that. that's why I became an athiest, religion seems to be against everything that's fun and feels natural to me so i reject it.

And the same goes for atheists.
jb9999999ify 2 months ago
@jb9999999ify No. If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color.

It could've been answered as easily as "robwithanr" responded." They didn't want confrontation, so why do you?
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr
And sometimes it bleeds into Atheists.
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader So all it takes for something to be considered a religion is that people get overly vocal and adamant about it? So then politics, sports, pop culture, etc. are ALL religions? And how does someone get "a little bit fanatical" about something? That seems like an oxymoron to me.
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr
Yeah, that's EXACTLY what I was saying: that to be considered a religion all you need to do is get vocal. Fuck, if you want a serious debate then don't be obtuse and feign misunderstanding. The only thing worse than being ignorant is pretending to be ignorant to avoid other people's valid points.
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader Hey, don't get pissed at me because YOU said something stupid. I simply took what you said to another conclusion. The only thing worse than being ignorant is being ignorant and claiming that ignorance is a "valid point". Atheism is a lack of belief in a god, and that is all.
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr
Does that make ANY sense to you, or will you continue putting on your little ruse of not getting it?
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader OK, so where we differ is in our definition of 'religion' AND of 'fanatical'. When someone starts blowing up or flying airplanes into buildings in the name of NO god, then I'll call atheism fanatical. Until then, when you use the word fanatical, it appears you are equating rigorous debate with REAL violent religious fanaticism, which I can't take seriously. But I get you now: It's when people push ideas on others. I still don't think that makes anything a religion, but whatever.
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr
I'll answer the first question if you can ask it without putting on the affect. As for the second question: think of it this way: Do people go from being soft on an issue to all of a sudden turning a hard right and going extreme? Or is it more of a process? People don't just automatically change from being hard left to hard right. Or maybe you see it as one of thongs that's either totally black or totally white.
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader Elaborate on the relevance of what you're saying. The tendency for people to ease into new ideas has what to do with whether or not atheism is a religion? Also, my thongs are often black AND white. I'm kinky like that.
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr
That's all.
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader You're right. Why should I bother trying to better understand someone else? What opinion did I respond to with a question? And please, do not make such incorrect and general statements about me. Nothing says IGNORANT like someone stating, as fact, conclusions about someone based on like, 8 comments on a Youtube video. C'mon now.
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr

dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader I see a few questions, none of which seem to be particularly inflammatory. The reason I asked YOU, is because you obviously have some extreme aversion toward what I asked. Am I a mind-reader? Am I supposed to know what question in particular you're so butthurt about? And who is outraged? Me? Why, because I pointed out the idiocy in judging a stranger based on Youtube comments? Yeah, I must be fuming. It's evident with my use of profanity... Oh wait, that was you. Angry person, you.
robwithanr 1 month ago
@dwdrader I remember a comparative religions class I took in college (because, you know, I see everything in black and white and am really close-minded about others' religions). The first chapter asked, "What is religion?" The answer the book gave is probably the best definition I've heard, and when I tell you, maybe you'll see why I have a hard time calling atheism a religion. — "Religion is human transformation in response to perceived ultimacy."
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr
Fascinating story. You're still putting on an act of not understanding, all for the sake of 'not winning' what you perceive to be a debate.
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader Ever consider the possibility that you might not be as smart, clear, & well-spoken as you think you are? I think I've hit the main points quite well, & you continue to drone on about me feigning understanding or avoiding questions. It's boring, really. Or is THIS just an 'act' of yours that you are going to keep up to inevitably tell me that I just "don't get it" or something? It's simple. Point out precisely what you want me to address, and I'll do it. This isn't rocket appliances.
robwithanr 1 month ago
@robwithanr
If you were REALLY bored, why reply?
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader You talk ad nauseum about me not understanding, yet I'm still waiting for you to enlighten me. I'll ignore your baseless accusations & just wait for you to say something of substance. Until then, I'm going to assume you not only took Flamer Cliche 101, but you got perfect A's all the way through 401. Furthermore, I reply despite being bored because I have hope (perhaps naively) that you might say something intelligent instead of silly 'flamer' claims. [cue Jeopardy theme]

@robwithanr
You need me to explain that people who get militant about atheism are now making atheism the same thing as religion. This is your hobby. From mundane to monotonous, this is just what you do. Except for your groundbreaking opinions on Nickelback being a crappy band. Enlightening. I'm done.
dwdrader 1 month ago
@dwdrader LOL That's your big finale? We already discussed the fact that we have differing definitions of religion. That was your beef? So yes, I STILL don't think that people getting militant makes atheism a religion (or a human transformation in response to perceived ultimacy). And nice last ditch attempt at an ad hominem. Why would saying god bless America offend you if you dont believe in a God at all? If an athiest is told "God bless you". Why can it not just be accepted someone being nice in their own way?
armourdude1 4 months ago
@armourdude1 "God Bless America" is something completely different. It's not simply a way of expressing our endearment to the US. It's printed on our currency, used in political speech and addresses, etc... And this is part of what enforces the (completely false) concept of this being a christian nation and makes people forget one of the most important parts of the constitution and its amendments - that the government cannot endorse or promote any favor for a particular religious institutions.
Makingnewnamesisdumb 4 months ago
@Makingnewnamesisdumb A concept of an overall belief is not necessary promoting a religion. God as an expression is use by non believing people all the time. Like “Oh My God” or “Dear God” or even as “God Damm it”. Swearing on the Bible may mean nothing to you or I but we could still do to show how serious we are. As far as being a Christian nation goes the sorry truth is that most people still want believe in God This concept gets support by the people consciously or sub-consciously.
armourdude1 4 months ago
@Makingnewnamesisdumb You forget the country was started by religiius nuts wanting to get away from the church of England to do their own thing, The puritain put religion in everything and eventualy the country got started based on those ideas. Is the United states a christain country? maybe 60 years ago when 90% people when to church it is closer to maybe 10% now But was the United States founded on biblical principles i thinks so just by default how can you argue it?
armourdude1 4 months ago
@armourdude1 It's not, because the constitution explicitly says no religion gets special attention at all. And most of the founding fathers were not religious. Many were basically atheists. And the reason religion was to be separate from government was to protect CHRISTIANS from being persecuted, not to stop Christians from persecuting. So it's Hypocrisy that that Christians endured that persecution, eventually became the majority and started insisting this is their nation.
Makingnewnamesisdumb 4 months ago
Also, this nation is not founded by biblical principles, it is founded on common sense basic rights. The right to speak against the government without being killed, the right to defend yourself from the government and its subjects, etc... In fact, most of the "biblical principles" that our laws are based on and aren't just superstitious nonsense were taken from laws that already existed around the world (particularly in Egypt.) The bible isn't a source of morality, we are the bible's source.
Makingnewnamesisdumb 4 months ago
@Makingnewnamesisdumb Most people back then had few books but they all had bibles it was cultural thing. Just about everyone learned to read using a bible because that’s all they had. So you’re telling me all that religious influence did not play a factor in the creation of the United States? They put the word God in just about every legal document they wrote. Believing in God or at least a concept is not promoting a Religion. Not In the eyes of the original Founders anyway.
armourdude1 4 months ago
@Makingnewnamesisdumb Here is one for you. Ronald Regan was speaking though an interperter to Michael Gorbchov. Goby said soming with the word God in it. Regan tasked if he believe in god. The reply was that it was just a common saying. My point is that Using the word God is more of a cultural thing then a religious promotion and i think it always has been, So why get all bent out of shape about it now? Come on OMG or for Gods sake, God Dam it, Jesus Christ get with it.
armourdude1 4 months ago
@armourdude1 Hanging onto and accepting things just because everyone does them is useless and pointless, and it allows for backwards thinking and conservativism simply for the sake of being conservative.
Makingnewnamesisdumb 4 months ago
@Makingnewnamesisdumb There is nothing wrong with being of a conservative mind it does not have to mean you’re a religious fruitcake. You are missing my point, I am not saying that we have to keep the status que, you are very optimistic if you think you are going to change a 300 years of culture in a decade. You dont have too equate a belief in a higher power with only Christianity. Many People like to believe in a God or something but don’t hold to Biblical principles.I am cool with that.
armourdude1 4 months ago
@armourdude1 I didn't say that being conservative is bad, I said that being conservative just for the sake of being conservative is both undesirable and pointless.
I'm not singling out christianity - all religions support superstition like this. They are all interesting, but they are all ineffective at governing and accounting for the needs of people. The idea that you "like" believing doesn't mean you have good reason to do so and doesn't mean anyone should pay attention, positive or not.

toobsucker 6 months ago
@toobsucker Because some religions contradict themselves, i.e. the Epicurus argument. We can't know if a god exists, but we can know that specific gods (as they are described) do not exist. Parodies like the flying spaghetti monster or the flying teapot are actually more plausible than commonly worshiped gods because they do not have contradictions.
PoweredByMagnets 6 months ago
@PoweredBy "Because some religions contradict themselves, i.e. the Epicurus argument. We can't know if a god exists"
You can't logically conclude what does and does not exist throughout the entire universe based on your interpretation of text written by men with limited understanding. Your reasoning is not sound to begin with. Under your hypothesis Gods chances of existing are determined by the amount of (and lack thereof) the perceived contradictions in the texts that predict his existence
toobsucker 6 months ago
@Powered"flying spaghetti monster or the flying teapot are actually more plausible than commonly worshiped gods because they do not have contradictions."
Flying spaghetti monster and flying teas pots have never been observed to exist. So of course they are blatant contradictions. and not logically sound concepts
Other life existing is logically sound. Other life with superior intellects and attributes is also logically sound. The logical inferences for Gods existence are firmly established
toobsucker 6 months ago
@toobsucker I observed a flying teapot the other day. You've never seen one? You have to believe, deep within your heart.
And next time give an example of a contradiction, as I did with Epicurus. You'll quickly find that there aren't any. Don't you remember middle school English classes? Hello? Supporting arguments?
PoweredByMagnets 6 months ago

Within 10 years Darwinian evolution will be thoroughly falsified

caleab26 4 months ago
@caleab26
Conserved elements falsify Darwinian evolution anyway so your point is moot
toobsucker 4 months ago
@toobsucker Actually, no where in my two statements did i mention Evolution.. I simply said that I.C. is a lame excuse for saying evolution is wrong, and its proven that things like the eye and flagellum can evolve naturally.
As i do not really know about conserved elements as of now, I can't really debate you on that subject.
caleab26 4 months ago
@caleab26 "Actually, no where in my two statements did i mention Evolution"
I.C. and Ken Miller are only used in reference to evolution.
You didn't understand what I told you. Evolution is not proven by reducing proteins and still keeping functionality. Evolution is proven by forward evolving protein folds and producing functionality
Your going in the wrong direction to prove evolution.
You still have over 300 more machines to deal with. The most important (ribosomes) are I.C. anyway

TheFreezer872 8 months ago
@TheFreezer872 If you've ever been to a live performance there is often someone there just before the end of the set requesting everyone in the audience to applaud. Not to mention as a performer Penn likely feels obligated to applaud out of respect. Adam's comment was a bit over the top and disrespectful to those who do believe in god. Especially since he's gone on record prior saying he doesn't believe in god.
l1f3l3555 7 months ago
@l1f3l3555 He was also whistling but ya, he'd feel obligated anyway much like Americans after a "God Bless America" cheer.
Adam wasn't disrespectful at all. Sure it was a satire, but that last statement had a "America Fuck Yeah" connotation, not one of religion or mockery. And this is exactly why Carolla isn't an atheist activist because they do this shit all the time: nitpicking and critiquing every word.

"God bless America" is an empty slogan with no real meaning. The god of Christianity is supposed to love everyone equally.

@congtron
Yeah that is true. "Bless America." What about the other countries? Is God not going to bless them?

File this under "shut the fuck up,you take yourself too seriously" go talk shit somewhere with the guy who doesnt talk.
nolenzvolenz 2 years ago

I'm "offended" by the word "offended", It is a word that is thrown around more than a joint at a Wailers concert.

The inescapable conclusion then about Penn Jillette is:
a. Penn Jillette is a Zionist, a secret but proud believer in the INVISIBLE HOMICIDAL RACIST CLOUD FATHER OF THE HEBREWS, who only pretends to be an atheist so he can freely attack all religions except his own; or
b. a cynical dancing monkey fat fuck errand boy Zionist shill, who is an atheist but is paid to attack all faiths except the deadliest & costliest in his lifetime -- Zionism.
bc9021010001 2 years ago
Ongoing Zionist atrocity against the Palestinians is the major religion-based terror inflicted on the world in Penn Jillette's lifetime, and it has been paid for in the hundreds of billions by US tax dollars and unlimited military support.
On two counts then -- unjustified government expenditure, and government policy and state-sponsored mass murder based on religious belief -- Zionism would seem to be exactly what Penn Jillette claims to be passionately opposed to, yet he is silent.
bc9021010001 2 years ago
While Zionists will claim their's is a secular political movement, its goal is to establish the "Jewish homeland." Zionists claim a mystical connection to mythical nomadic tribes who thousands of years ago had an INVISIBLE RACIST CLOUD FATHER who told them they were special and should enslave or kill the rest of humanity, gave them the desert east of the Mediterranean and told them to kill any other tribes they found there.
Penn's Viacom TV show is owned by uber-Zionist Sumner Redstone.
bc9021010001 2 years ago

Adam is a sarcastic ass. A very funny sarcastic ass.
For some reason Penn doesn't seem to understand that Adam mocks everyone including atheist.
Hey Penn, this video is - Bull Shit.

take your own advice and stop taking things so seriously.. especially when you know he wasn't trying to offend you..

EVERYONE does that fucking show for their career you fuckshit. its called reality TV and publicity.
Rshimy 2 years ago
This was an off-the-cuff, semi tongue-in-cheek comment that wasn't intended to "boost his career" by pulling one over on America. Adam wasn't mocking theists, he was satirically using a common phrase that's become a part of our lexicon.
