FATHER TIME!! MOTHER NATURES BELOVED!!! a mother requires a Father to accompany her............FAITH AND THOUGHTS IN FAITH ARE THE BEST EMOTIONAL HEALING
behaving on my best behavior..........now now tears for fears you don't teach me to turn my back on my faith MOTHER NATURE the outside influences(reality) for delicate baby hummingbird in her NEW THOUGHTS AFTER BRAIN SURGERY IN HELP FROM THE SPIRIT!!!!!!!!!!
This is an 80's classic. It's such a shame the music these days is complete and utter shit compared to this sorta stuff. everyone in today's music world should take note on classic music and bands like tears for fears
Every time I hear this video - it takes me back to eating lunch in a US Army Mess Hall in West Berlin...and this song playing on Armed Forces Network Radio...
Watching this video only amplifies my lifelong yearn for this decade, (my teenage years) to be the 80's instead. The musicians were genuinely talented, intelligent and beautiful. Nowadays I'm forced to wonder how the people 'singing' on my radio station were ever deemed to be worthy of a listen, especially in comparison with Curt and Roland!
i never get why the 80s is looked back at as the me decade, the decade of greed and narsasism and consumerism. i just remember it as fun, happy fun not selfish fun. we were young and we enjoyed a type of freedom and exposure that say the stereotypical youth of the 50s wouldnt of had. but also not the complete entitlement that 8 years olds sitting in class texting with their friends seem to have today. and there is no music today that simply makes me feel the way this makes me feel.
This song reminds me of a special time when life was simple and carefree and I was serving with BAOR in W.Germany in 1985. It was an amazing time celebrated by an amazing song and band.
I am a baby boomer and just love this group. I was busy in the '80's raising a family, but remember these great songs. Adam Lambert doing Mad World recently, reintroduced me to some of their wonderful music and seeing Curt Smith on 'Psych" last night was great.
What the point going on stage to lip sync? It kind of defeats the purpose of the word LIVE, if we want the studio version we listen to it, but we don’t want to hear the studio version while watching someone pretend to sing it
For the life of me, I can't think of any reason a respectable artist would lip sync for some shitty show. Oh wait, nevermind, I forgot about money. Still a shitty pointless show.
You're right, it did reach the top, in the U.S. I'm assuming that's where you're from. It only reached Number two in the U.K chart. I wish it had been Number one here. It's a great tune to drive along to!
That's right. In the UK, another monster of a song called 'We Are the World' occupied the top slot. What a time it was for music! All songs that were hits were actually great songs and now we have just the reverse! As Curt sings- "Say that you never never never need it. One headline- why believe it?"
ajittffcure - love your comment because you're so right.... way to go in quoting Curt!! he would be proud... it's true he love stuff like that. I agree with your point... man what happened to the music?? and I don't believe it has anything to do with age, for the reason a lot of the music today sucks... now, I'm into like Rob Thomas, John Mayer, Jason Maraz but not all of the new artists are worth a listen. a good friend of mine kid that is 14 agrees with me and like the old stuff.. what gives??
@webwezal- Liking a particular music has nothing whatsoever to do with age. I mean I was just 15 when I got into Tears for Fears and their music. It has got more to do with a certain taste of music. I think it has to do with a bit of personality as well. If the music you hear reflects your own inner feelings and thoughts, then you are bound to love it. In the case of "Everybody Wants...", it struck a chord with the many people around the world. That's how such music becomes timeless.
I was waiting in a van on Rodeo drive Beverly Hills. While I waited for my boss to peddle his paintings to art galleries there, I watched the mid 80's fashionistas walk on by. I lit a joint and took a hit. In a minute or 2 the radio debuted this new song by Tears for Fears. A moment when I actually 'ruled the world' enfolded in front of me. I was 22. Rare and sweet!
What a story! Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this. :)
I remember the moment I listened to Everybody Wants to Rule the World' on a CD in the early 1990s. I think it was called 'Live in Knebworth 1990'. I became an instant fan and I just knew this band's music is going to stay with me forever.
Tears for Fears is one of the best bands of all time, and everyone mentions that they are lip-syncing. Well, everybody lip-syncs on this show. When they are live in concert TFF never lip-syncs
@StrictlyMusicNetwork I agree, this obsession with lip synching is really tedious! Treat it like an alternate 'performance-oriented' video, people. You don't complain about a guitarist in a pop video not playing live do you? This band played live at gigs & were great at it. Enjoy or criticise the finished recording for its intrinsic musical value and let go of this old-fashioned obsession with whether or not something is 'live'. That's if you care about the actual music in front of you at all!!
its mimed. No one sang or played live on Top of the Pops in the 80's as there was no time for rehearsals. But later in the mid 90's the show's bosses gave artists the option to sing & play live. But again when this was recorded they weren't allowed to do it live.
I love Curt in this one to. But what I love about both of them is that they're so unique from each other. I admire Roland's voice in a whole different way.
Check out 1:50. Curt seems to be adjusting that ear mechanism in his ear (probably to hear his own voice)?
Isn't this around the time we started seeing these more and more -- when artists started wearing these devices in their ears during live performances?
in Songs of the Big Chair each smith and orzabal made a great song with their vocals, smith with this one Everybody Wants To Rule The Wolrd and orzabal with Shout
LOL. Curt has an amazing voice. He's wonderful in this video. Oh, just look at 3:42 GOSH Roland is pretty sexy, look the way he's holding his guitar!!! ;)
Just glad they're friends and partners again. They simply complete each other, they're kind of brothers. (L)
watching this stuff makes me jealous of all the people who grew up in the 80s, i think i should have. im obsessed with the 80s beyond reason, and none of my friends get it, and they make fun of me. im 14, if u walked into my room u would think it was 1984. i have stacks of 80s magazines, my closet has 80s clothes from ebay in it, and i listen to records, not cd's. its really sad... lol
