  • IT IS CLEAR; the guy on the yzf gave the start to this guy on the 490; another 1/8th mile and the 490 would have been dusted, even the wide ratio trans in an it490 engine wouldnt yield more than around 110mph with the correct gearing, STILL very quick in the 1/8th mile, but not infoulable. two of these engines grafted together or separate wouild be u huge force to contend with even in the 1/4 mile. The 2 stroke torque is un-deniable.

  • Part two, Lack torque????? A 2 stroke of the same size as a comparable 4 stroke makes almost twice the torque, most motocrossers were engineered and built for horsepower and speed and not necessarily torque. However, they still make much more torque than their 4 stroke brethren. Look at the Honda S2000 engine, it had very little torque and required tons of rev's to move, it was based on their motorcycle engine. Motorcycles have less weight and need less torque, but can be built for torque.

  • @7h3647hin6 Hey genius, before spouting off about a lack of facts, look up the terminology as to what "kinetic energy" means. Gasoline powered engines are a form of kinetic energy. Secondly, the 2 strokes fell out of favor because the rule changes make them uncompetitive. How can an engine that makes over 50 horsepower and weighs less than an engine that makes only 37 horsepower and has more torque and less weight be slower? Talk about a lack of facts, try reading some pertinent information.

  • If they get the fuel injection worked out for motorcycles, we will have our twostrokes back! Bigger & better than ever! They allready have it on snowmobiles and outboard motors. So whats the hold up for motorcycles? I would love to have a big bore or four cylinder two stroke street bike.

  • @dudeking1999 Thats a really good question. However the new fuel injection on two-strokes is direct injection and thus saves fuel. It doesn't provide any power advantage that I have seen. Atv's and street machines are in a different cattegory which sucks! 

  • That's a misnomer that the 4 stroke crowd spews onto the unsuspecting, that a 2 stroke cannot last as long. Do 3 things to your 2 stroke, to make it last as long or longer than a similar diesel. Those "things" are: Good, proper jetting. Good oil. And the single most important thing to do on a 2 stroke, LET IT WARM UP! A 2 stroke by natures vastly superior. In fact, a leading scientist said after checking each engine design, a 2 stroke is the highest form of gasoline kinetic energy on the planet.

  • @7h3647h32in6 Ok, if what you said is true and 2 stroke motors make no torque, then why is it that the YZ 250F produces 36 HP and 20.1 foot lbs of torque while the YZ 250 2 stroke produces 46 HP and 30.6 foot lbs of torque? It should also be noted that the YZ450F produces 34 foot lbs of torque thats 200 more cubic centimeters and only 4 more foot lbs of torque than a 250 YZ... I think you need to go and hit the books man.

  • @7h3647h32in6 uhm actually the same class for a 250 2 stroke is really a 250 4 stroke. They just race the 450f against the 250 2 smoker in order to try to make it fair. Secondly, a 250 producing 4 foot pounds less than a 450 f is hardly lacking in torque. Finally, the two stroke is in fact more efficient than the 4 seeing how it burns more of its gases and wastes less, this is not a theory. You act as though the 2 stroke is totally inferior to the 4 when its actually the other way around.

  • If, like me your well over 30 you'll remember proper old skool strokers and they were xlnt fun(yz,it, rm, cr, pe, kx,ke,rdlc,x7,kettle,kh triple etc). Smell of Castrol R when an LC350 went past was top. Im a big fan of them but also new sportsbikes and i've had a few of both. I had yam IT 490 enduro 12 yrs ago and it made ANY off-road hill in 2nd gear that i tried(big pit hills in n/e england) and used to nearly pull my arms out fully wound . Stroker instant power is a rush. ENJOY ALL 2 WHEELS

  • Man yamaha sure made some hot 2 strokes back in the day. I remember tearing through the fields on my old 1973 DT3-250 that thing really tore things up. "This was only 2003 I got that bike but it could stand up to my cousins new TTR-225 easy."

  • @Agamum oh man, the SC500 is a monster..... doesn't matter what gear you're in, twist the throttle and you'll swear the bike is going to come out from under you. I race a CRF450 that's been hopped up, and that thing doesn't even come close to scarring me as much as the old SC500.

  • The 490 was available in UK in 1980 with 49hp have piccies, info seems to suggest 1981.

  • YZ 490 is a 2 stroke moded one whereas YZF R1 is stock. We should agree 2 stroke engines are awesome, but 4 stroke engine are now coming as shorter stroke, which gives performance as like 2 strokes now... SO NO NEED TO FIGHT BOTH 4 STROKE AND 2 STROKE ENGINES ARE INCREDIBLE... F1 Cars have 4stroke engine have u seen the performance of that???

  • @GodsOfWrestling I have an old 1987 Suzuki TS250X it's done 24,000 km's and it's only been rebuilt 3 times and it keeps up with my dads honda XR600R so if you take good care of a two stroke it will last ages

    . I rebuild once every season. That would be once a year. You must be of a newer generation and speculate of what others tell you. If you run a two stroke right, it will last.

Shit happens man and parts wear, sometimes people don't install shit right ( even professionals from time to time) or you can take a bad crash and all that can makes for a bad combo. An empty wallet, an unhappy rider, and worst of all, time away from the track ( even if its as little as a week)

    Titanium valve hyper technology ktm 250 4-stroke. Piston change at 40hours, fragile valves cant handle ANY dust. (I head this from a pro enduro guy who's done about 25years of riding)

    There's also been many problems in 450-640ktm's with their crank being warped and twisted, WEAK :)

  • I went desert riding with friends and they were on new 4 strokes and I was riding my 81 maico 490. The laugh at me and said are you going to ride that old thing. They were crying when all they saw were the rocks coming from my rear tire as I smoke their doors off, out handle, and out drag them on the straights.

  • Whatever dude, go look it up. What I've said about Hayabusas is simple fact, not my fucking imagination. And I'm not going to waste my time arguing about it. But I will tell you type in "worlds quickest street bike" on YouTube. The third one in the list brings up a 7 second, 200 mph busa run. You can see the time on the time clock.

  • haven't u ever heard the expression "dont believe everything u see on tv?" well, same goes for youtube. Ive seen many bikes run 7 seconds and faster in real life at our local strip. Lots of these bikes were driven to the track making them street bikes. Some bikes were not modified much either. Just to pour a little salt in the wound, I witnessed an Artic cat snowmobile eat 3 different Busas all in the same day.

  • I agree the Busa is really really over hyped. I think people tend to think that because the bike can reach nearly 200mph, it can also go down a track faster than any other bike which is not true. There are lots of bikes faster than the Busa in a 1/4 mile. Some new some old. I just got done watching a video with a nearly stock 1970s Kawasaki H2 running the 1/4 in 8 seconds

  • Sorry to all you people that think two strokes are the fastest things on the planet. Sure, smaller bore two strokes will destroy smaller bore four strokes in straight line speed. But if you're comparing a CR500 to a MODERN big bore supersport... Sorry, but a stock CBR 600 (roughly 120 crank hp) will absolutely destroy a stock CR500 (around 60 hp). Not to mention CR500 versus a brand new 1000cc sport bike. Now if you're talking about built bikes, that's a different story.

  • But if we ARE talking about BUILT bikes, then we can use a turbo Suzuki Hayabusa. Nothing is fucking faster than a highly modded and tuned turbo busa! Try seven seconds from a dead stop to 200 mph (not to mention that is a figure for a street legal motorcycle without a drag bar). I'd like to see your two stroke drag bike to even begin to compare with that figure!

I don't remember the names of those vids or the tuning company that built the bikes. Read the text on the homepage of amadragbike d-o-t - c-o-m . Right now I can't find the ones I saw of the 200 plus runs, but if you youtube search for "S&R pro busa" you'll see a couple high 7 runs at close to 200.

  • @Bigjq2000 yes the gixxer 1k is a very good drag bike; but its not accurate to say that "busas suck", just because you beat one or a few of them. With the difference in ET generally as minute as it is, the rider generally has more to do with it than the machine (so long as the machines are close).

  • 2 strokes and 4 strokes are way different, both are good, 125 2 strokes race 250 4 strokes, 250 2 strokes race 450 4 strokes and a 500 2 stroke will break the average rider very quickly!

  • its the other way around. 2 strokes got the top end while the 4 stroke has the torque for the bottom end.

  • the smaller ones have the most power in the top rpms. 4 strokes have a more even power distribution and have more usable high rpms, where as 2 strokes power is almost totaly lost in the highest rpms.

    but when 2 strokes are in the powerband they have the most torque, even more then any 4 stroke i know

  • streebikes? no. dirbikes yes, but those 4 strokers are coming close. i prefer 2 stroke dirtbike cause i love the 2 stroke tune :cracklin cylinder! but the 4 strokes have the torque, i don't care lol i just pull clutch and rev then let go. 4 stroke dirbikes require same amount of maintenance as 2 strokes. u have to change oil (engine tranny as one) and oil filter while the 2 stroke only tranny oil and add oil to gas. the require the same amount of rebuilds too. 2/4 stroke dirtbikes,jus preferance

  • Exhaust and fuel chambers were openned up,head ported, KX500 vforce reed valve,36 tooth rear sprocket, runs with VP fuel, and a custom exhaust was specially made for it. Diego the rider is one of the best I've seen. Thanks for looking
