400th rater woowoo :D can anybody imagine how long this WHOLE film took to put together? i was told that it was all filmed in one, but it was too long to put onto a disk, so they split it into a trilogy.. shame they stopped there really, a couple more would have been friggin' awesome :)

No. they filmed each movie almost non stop but they were allowed holidays after each movie was released. and no it was always the intention to follow the books and create a trilogy like the books were. Also no, it wouldn't be cool if they made more that didnt follow the original storyline from Tolkien.

Although yes, they are supposedly making a "The Hobbit" movie about Bilbo's travels to the misty mountains.

Wow...this was very interesting...thanks for posting!  In that first scene in the Paths of the Dead, that camera is so close to the actors faces and in the way of where they're walking, it takes real talent to ignore them and do the scene. They must hate those kinds of shots.

Well there were a couple ways. Sometimes they did a strange camera angle and sometimes they had different size things. For example, Gimli's cup would be bigger than everyone else's so that he looked smaller. Then for group shots, he had a size double.

Stunt double, because John is definitely a huge guy. The close ups are John but otherwise it's probably the stunt double, and the two had to wear so much make-up (including an entirely separate face) you can't tell the difference anyway. He did all of the leg work, literally.
