The reason why I joined a crew was because I'm too young to go to clubs, they won't let me in, so that's how i met people that were into the same thing as me
Couldnt agree more eith this vid. Fuckin look how forced and controlled the movements are. Im 34 in a few days. Started shufflin in 1997. The only decent raves are the ones where these little fuckers arent.
You can still be in a crew and still shuffle to express not to impress, everyone that I know who Melbourne Shuffles are in it to express themselves through EDM not to impress. Having crews makes it easier to meet others in it for the same thing. I have met so many friends who Melbourne Shuffle through crews, it makes it easier to find those who are in it for the same. Whenever I'm out raving and someone comes up to me and says "you're so good" I say "it's all in the fun" There is no competition.
The dance crews only battles and all of that shit cus they think its fun, im in one my self... We dont do it too show up our self, we do it for fun. And guys we cant have a dance at the old school style all the time. The dance have to grow to.
I don't know, i agree that its become popularized and diluted to an alarming extent (up yours, LMFAO) but i don't think that means you have to pour out hate on those people, "underground" is not synonymous with good. I say just relax and ignore all the crappy popularized neophytes, they'll just keep on sucking anyways. Just enjoy yourself and the music, don't let it bother you.
Im new to the rave scene and just started shuffling 4 1/2 months ago and since i live so far away from any clubs i cant go to actual raves and have to go to house party's but i learned from all the videos on here and battling isn't actually battling its just showing what you learned... i can tell that much from it.
I agree with your hate about the crews and such, but considering you people who knew how to shuffle when it was just an "underground" community obviously spread it across the world to make it what it is now. What's done is done, bitching like this won't change a thing.
I really hate when people try so hard to keep something underground. It's like they're scared of their precious secret dance getting out into public space. And of course the idiots who have no opinions of their own agree. Who the fuck cares..it's just a dance. Fucking have fun and enjoy it. You dumbasses are so worried about who does this or who wears that. How fucking artificial are you guys? Fucking get a life...seriously.
@XSilvenX Oh we have a life and its Raving dancing thats who we are when something goes so manistream it will lose its meaning like it is now thanks to lmfao ppl are going to get into dji'n soon enough and and won't know what its really about and then they will destroy our culture because they are in it cuz they thinks its so cool they care about the meaning of plur it will be lost if we don't do something. that is why we are bitching so much and it does deserve to stay alive ya know.
@MrKtiger I think some people pride themselves on exclusivity way too much. We should be glad that more people are signing on and getting into the scene and enjoying the music. Perhaps they're scared of evolution and change... This always happens with any underground scene if it's any good. It gets big, evolves and becomes something new with more people. Those afraid of change can get left in the dust, crying about it and complaining isn't gonna change much regardless.
@XSilvenX Change isnt bad. However when you take the physical side of it (dance and even the fashion) And use it for something completely different (being a stuck up little TB) thats when people have a problem. Not that all are like that. i know quite a few nice little kids who have the right idea. I also know some "grown ups" Who are as stupid as any tb
Shufflers may make crews and bvattle each other but they dotn freakin hate each other half of these battle videos have extra endings and it shows both crews jsut chilling and hanging out most shufflers batlle for fun jsut to see how good they got because there proud to be good because they love to shuffle so i personally think your just judgemental
So much agree. I remember when breakdancing was just about having fun at a block party and when locking was just about partying in a club with fun movements, too. It felt good. I don't like how rockers are saying the shuffle is not a "street dance". Street originally referred to non-taught dances back in the day, such as stomping and american jazz. Thanks to crews the media is now confusing the term with the "in a street" shlock. By the way, you really should take notice of the comment below :)
Meet Ups, Crews, Battles all came from us not being old enough to get into most rave/clubs so we went to the streets. Most of Melbourne was influenced by B-boying which they (Meet up, Battle also have crews) It isn't to see who's
better just to show skill. The shuffle isn't mainstream in the least. I shuffled at a party last night people liked it but didn't have a clue of wtf I was doing.
I'm glad more people have access to the melb shuffle and dance and are getting into it. But yeah, too many of our youth don't understand p.l.u.r. and the trance induced by dance. Misguided as they are, only we who hold the true knowledge can show them what dancing is really about. I'm too young to have known rave when it was true rave, but Im quite spiritual about my 'choons and dance.
I know battles with me, I've never had a shuffle battle. I've had like fire spinning battles and we just basically screw around doing funny shit. And you know what, it's really really fun. I don't know any other shufflers period. I'm 17 and I get into raves cause I know DJ's and I've never seen battle here in Detroit. I personally want to get into one for fun, I don't think anyone actually takes it seriously. It's just another form of fun. Unless you're right and ppl r being dicks if so fck them
it is true that i started shuffling because i thought it looked cool. but i shuffle now for the love of the music and fun. I dont see why you cant express yourself and have a little friendly competition too. I do think its true that a lot of people are ruining melbourne shuffle though. meet ups i dont see anything wrong with either, you get to do what you love to do with other people who like the same thing. I think its good that it has spread outside of the underground rave.
awesome video mate! Dont worry though, there is still a hand full of us left that go to raves for the music and dance to the music for the love of the music!
to be honest alot of its a fad for these tb or whatever the new generation liked to be called 6 to 12 months and their into somthing completeley different as long as people are enjoying the style of dance who are we to complain at least it isnt dying like many scenes from the past keep it alive dance to express not to impress give a few tips help a fellow raver out not mock him for his style nuff said=]
Who are you to say what is or isnt acceptable in the MS scene? Do you even know how the MS was back in the 90s? Because if you did you would know that battling and crews WERE a big part of it. Ever heard of PFP? TVU? I doubt it, these crews were among the biggest CREWS BACK IN THE EARLY 90s. There were crews and battles since the beginning of the MS, and Iam sorry to burst your bubble but I have NEVER seen a crew make fun of other crew, it just doesn't happen, not in real life at least
@avrajam I totally agree! None of these krew members seemed to hate on each other or discourage beginners from getting better! I always thought that krew shuffling encourages beginners to learn and improve under the tutledge of the pros. Why not shuffle to express AND to impress?
@avrajam bullshit bullshit bullshit - crews - battles - what a pile of crap. What crews? Where? What raves? I raved non-stop 1993-1998 - I *never, ever* saw battles, no one cared how well you danced so long as you enjoyed yourself. Good dancers got respect, but there was no competition.
i'm a bit sad that i got introduced to this scene when there were already crews and battles going on. but i was lucky enough to be introduced by the people who still carry out the vibe of the scene the old ways, no battles, no crews, just having fun, meeting new and nice people. the rave scene made me realise that there are "real" and unpretentious people out there; positivity, kindness still exist among strangers. this is where i met some of the best people.
all these new kids and their crews need to go to a party like 'earthcore' for 3 fricken days straight. maybe then they will learn how to apreciate the music and the scene for what it really is and experiance what raving is really about just like i did. leave their crew hoodies at home and forget their battles for 3 days of real fun with good mates, meet new people, dance and enjoy the feeling, have eye and mind opening experiances, all what a being raver is all about.
i completely agree with this vid, i wasnt a huge raver in my day but i did enjoy the few times i went out in melb to bubble and hard kandy in russle st when phd was across the road down that alley. back in 2001 when going out there was fun, there was no battles and no crews, just you and your mates and great dj's. i remember seeing steve hill play at phd early one morn after kandy closed was the best nite ever, i never danced so much apart from that nite. kids these days will never know this...
I guess you weren't around in the 80's. Any major dance style that gets popular is going to be used by kids to "battle". Poppin' and lockin'/ breakin were used in the 80's, there were "crews" and everything. Now in the 00's and teens, it's the Melbourne Shuffle. There's no point in getting worked up over whether is still underground or not, it's a fun dance that utilizes GREAT music, so of course it's going to get popular. Just rave however you wanna rave mate, and don't worry about the kids! :D
@PunchAPeach Indeed, I think if you want to have a care free attitude about it, and do it purely for your own enjoyment, then you shouldn't worry about how kids in malaysia or whereever are using it, just worry about what it means to you :)
all ur doing is bitching lol and whos better then whos crap with this whole crying scene video is to make the whole shuffling thing fun not everyone takes shuffling that serious as some ppl do here on youtube lol and ur guys are just dissapointed cuz u guys dont feel special nemore just cuz everyone does it lol
crews are pretty nice for beginner shufflers, i found shuffling on youtube through one of their videos, it helps promote your dance....it's all your choice so if people want to be in a group and dance with the their friends/learn from their friends/ be taught from their friends and then slap a name on top then why does it matter? i've personally never seen a shuffle group fight or hate on eachother lol they all seem to be willing to learn or teach the other people...
@iRoXsOxAlOt I agree i don't know what these people are talking about...and if its to express not impress, why doesn't it matter if u go to raves? It's about the music not the scene in which you listen to it. And its up to the person what he wants to do with the music. Just because they want to have friendly competition and get together with their friends and give themselves a name...doesn't mean they are ruining the dance. I think these people are ignorant and they are ruining the dance.
#1: You say that competitive shuffling is bad and that being competitive is not shuffling to express. Well some people find competition FUN, which is the point! Besides, who said that meant YOU had to compete? That doesn't affect your fun. #2: You say Every kid on the block can shuffle so it isnt special anymore. Um, so your saying only a few people can have fun. If you want to feel special, go get good at shuffle and become one of the best. Or find the fun in YOUR shuffle and don't hate others.
we are not trying to be some kind of gang war thing people see us shuffle and they love it only a real shuffler will have his own style there are many people who have a distinguished style of shuffle you think your the shit saying that we want to be some kind of gang hip hop and rap is fucking gay and we dont want to be labled under that shit so FUCK YOU
i am just a beginner at shuffleing and i aint got crew hoodies/phats i mean wtf i might get the Phats thats about it but i do it for the joy and experiance i dont want to proove anything to anyone i mean christ the video is the truth its turning Shuffleing into a bluddy Mafia situation just go back to fun not who is best out of the so called "crews" !
i disagree, what your trying to say is that because people are in gangs and in hoodies there bad. I think, not there just trying to have a bit of fun.
I love this video, haha its sooo true. Except i have a crew too but i dont battle or anything. I shuffle to express not impress. Hate me if you want for having a crew but i still agree with everything this video has said
when i go to clubs or larger events, it all depends on what i feel like doing. I am perfectly content shuffling alone amidst the crowd, or with some buddies, or in a circle where in my opinion, its more about expressing to a group of ppl, ive never once thought of it as battling.
I dance shuffle and a met it on youtube! I love do this but when i see how underground scene change i would prefer not met this dance! This dance should be only in Melbourne! Fuck scooter, battle and comercial :(
why dont you stop bitching and complaining and let peopel do what they want no one really cares about your thoughts and conserns its a fucking dance its like a language it is easy to pick up now stop your bitching and go masterbate to the poster of master chief that is hanging on the ceiling above your bed so you make sure that is the last thing you see before you eat your cookies and milk and go to bed
Completely Agree... You just don't need to look all mighty in front of a lot of people, you just got to dance and be who you are. (: You don't need a crew, you just need some mates, some good music, and just dance. :D
I completely agree, I hate the fact that TB's (teeny boopers aka people who never been to a rave) wear PHD jumpers - wtf they cant even get into the night club and for all that dont know PHD is pure hard dance NIGHT CLUB in melbourne. Why would you wear merchandise to something you can even go to? wtf,
Hate these people who just dont understand the rave scene, steal our dance and ruin it by creating these gangs, crews and battles.
@CutHardstylez actually tb = teeny booper = young person who never has been to a rave who wants to dance like people who have been to one. Another example would be some who buys merchandise to somewhere they never have actually been nor can go to.
@nooffence1 1. A tb owns a PHD/BAXX/club attire without having been to the club. 2. A tb shuffles in malls/public places for attention. 3. A tb is in a crew. 4. Battles. Once again, show whos better, impressing etc. etc. 5. Styles 6. Phats 7. Idolisation/Impressing mentality 8. Video making 9. Insecurity
@nooffence1 if they're under 16 and own a pair of phats. paying 200+ for a pair of pants that do NOTHING for the shuffle (the whole "it makes it look better" is bullshit, as your knee lifting/style makes it look worse) . If you've been to a rave, fair enough, but if not - why bother wasiting so much money? I actually know peope that have asked me where to buy phats after ONE day of shuffling, cause they think it's "shuffle attire" that you NEED to have to shuffle.
@CutHardstylez people want it cause it makes a illusion and the kne knee lifting is what makes up most of that illusion if you dont lift your knee then you dont know how to shuffle
@CutHardstylez but becuase i liked how the pants were... same shit if i saw a pair of skinny jeans that i really liked i would get them.. but i wouldnt get a phd hoodie.. i would just wear any other hoodie i really dont know anybody that shuffle here where i live so yeah i wont be cool becuase i shuffle .... just let people do what they want its their lives not yours.. if they want to friendly battle then its okay .. .but its for fun so who cares..
I completely agree with this video, I have been a shuffler for 5 years now and I do it purely for my own enjoyment and just to have a good time... It made me sick when Australian Shuffler Competition - SYTYCS came out... Its things like this that have brought this whole new wave of people into the scene with a bad attitude... Your suppose to dance for yourself!!! not battle in your wanky crews like some hard f*cks or something...
SHUFFLE COS YOU WANNA HAVE FUN AND EXPRESS YOURSELF!!
Furthermore - This is all about enjoying yourself and learning from each other different and new moves!! not trying to make each other feel like crap cos they arent as good as the next person... We didnt start out pro, it takes everyone time and practice to become good... The vibe today seems to not be about enjoying yourself like i remember it... its all about whos better then who... which is just absolute crap!! I personally hope the scene goes back to what it use to be.
@mikemayhem3 Hell to the yeah, the bit where it says every kid on the block now shuffles or whatever, i didn't believe till the other day, i went to ice skating, there were dj's there and lasers and crap like a mini rave on ice, tehre were shufflers everywhere running man on ice and crap i was like holy
@mikemayhem3 I really hope the same ... And sth. about crews: Like ours, we just hang up, chill out and enjoy raving to Hardstyle/other music my pals put on :-)
Also you can do some shit with the others, what´s funny in my opinion ^^
Don´t think so negative all the time :-)
But otherwise I agree: There´re always some Tb´s who start a competition between shuffling^^
It´s so senseless, cuz It´s like:" I´m raving better then you" or "I´m more cool than you, while raving" x,D
@JorDef - I agree man, I have a bunch of friends that I spend my time with shuffling to all music... whether it be the harder styles or house music. We hit the clubs and just have fun shuffling... I just think its good to see people out there with new styles and what not, but just don't make other people feel like shit because they aren't as good as you may be... we should be teaching each other and having fun rather then trying to make others feel stupid for trying to shuffle... thats all. ^_^
Huh, I raved 1992-2002ish - and, yeah, watching the "melbourne shuffle" videos on youtube, 2 things struck me
1 omfg it is so stripped-back and simplified, and dull nowadays, large slabs of the moves have been lost.
2 it seems designed for short bursts for a few minutes, to impress the other dudes watching your "battle" or wtf ever (??) - when I was raving people went out to go very hard, non-stop from midnight till midday. Good luck doing that in a modern "shuffle" style. Not a fan at all.

I praise this video, I enjoyed it. Even though I haven't been into the scene as long as most shufflers, but I already knew that this style of dance was everything that was mentioned in this video. Express yourself, who gives a fuck about everyone else. Sure I get compliments when I go out clubbing, but it's not like I make it into a big deal that "yeah I can shuffle and I'm better than everyone else". Just go out and have fun!!!
I personally belive that it is just a form of having fun. who cares about who does it anymore. For me it's just a way to relive steam or meet new friends.Hopefully these 'crews' stop and they become a dying breed. I also hope that everyone can be an equal, who cares if your not as good as the person next to you. IT's just another chance to meet another person and learn from them.
Back then, you would turn to the person next to u, even a complete stranger, give a smile and rock on together the whole night. Do that these days and apparently it means u wanna punch on...bring back the docks! Wetmusik. Jeff Mills. Digweed. Pioneers all of them...

This clip is 100% spot on. Everything, and I mean everything, said in this clip I fully agree with. It seems every little tosser and his dog thinks that he can shuffle. Tell ya what. 12 years ago the ravers would have torn this generation apart on the dance floor. Not because they wanted to compete, but because it was a passion. It was about the music, not the image.
dude face the facts its ok to make groups ok get off peoples baks just because u probably cant shuffle or get in any krews doesnt meane u have to hate them and battling is easy u show off your skill ok.. god dikhead
Yea shuffling is like that now... but there are competitions cause everyone wants the title of being the best. Thats how ppl are wanting to be the best at everything. this sorta of thing is just out of our control as long as there are ppl with this kinda of mind set it will always be about whos the best.
battles i disagree with but meet ups i dont mind as long as you have permission for either a dj or to use speaker systems in that public place, no meet up should be headphones only, i like meet ups because in the state and country i live in if you are under age you can meet other shufflers that way and have fun together, like me in texas i cant go to clubs or anything cause im under 18 and nobody at my school shuffles other than me and one friend so i like to meet other shufflers
I am sorry to say this but i really disagree with thise vid. i mean didn't everything start underground? hip hop, rapping they all started as something small and then they increased in size i dont mind that shuffling is getting big, i'd rather see people shuffling in the streets then seeing them jerk or doing gay hip hop dances
they way i see it the melbourne rave seen is big and most of the people thier are thier 4 the fat beats and to get off thier face and have fun and i dont mean get off ur face on alcahol if u no wat i mean lol get on the squirt whoop whoop............ phd rocker i never stop untill i drop melbourne rockers always on top
Personally, I don't mind the battles. If some people want to show off, go ahead. What's the point of getting good at something that you like if you can't show it off, right? Anyway, I actually don't battle. But I don't think it's wrong or anything. Also, I think the crews are a good asset. The Melb.Shuffle has evolved into a dance where people want to take it to the next lvl, like hip-hop. That's why you get together with your buds and learn from eachother, practice, etc. It's cool. Just havefun
haha no disrespect nut i dont agree new melb. rox!!! and old rave is out so sorry BTW THANX FOR THE WEBSITE NOW EVERY KIDD ON THE BLOCK WILL HAVE THE WEBSITE biocth
its kind of like how soulja boy created his own style of Hip hop and so thats what were doing, creating new things out of shuffling, anyways?U guys suck at shuffling!
so why shuffle when u suck at it?
If u want to shuffle then shuffle like u can!
U guys dont like battling because u guys r PARTY freaks!
@rex4kho All these kids at my school cos "shuffling looks kool" Grow the fuck up you know. i used to get made fun of for shuffling and listening to hardstyle and now all people do is listen to it, so you gotta show them whos boss with a shuffle battle.. I like to think of it like good vs. evil
@rex4kho Haha whatever floats there boat. I wish mainstreem would leave shuffling alone though, and the music. Its too good to be mainstreem, Listen to your damn akon and leave us alone,
what are you talking about that has nothing to do with my post. I don't care what you kids are doing these days. techno changed from month to month so i don't doubt it has changed in 10 years.
good vid. what kids don't realise is that the 'shuffle' (whatever the fuck that is) was formed from a bunch of cunts aboslutly fucked off their brain. A lot of ravers would say they couldnt dance while straight. There was competition but not in the literal sense. The express not impress term was used but mostly by good dancers.
Wearing the phat pants will just get you bashed. I thought the 'world' pants were phat back then.
@TheShuffledevil chyeah im against crews too but i realised they do it to shuffle together outside a club.... because most crew ppl are minors n cant shuffle with ppl anywhere else n make one out of boredom.... but also some go overboard n become really fn annoying!
i blame jack40k, if he didnt make the complications millions of people wouldnt know about it and it would still be underground. if u type "melbourne" into youtube on the first page is one of jack40k's vids
im learning how 2 shuffle because it does look fun and i AM a USA new york shuffler ( not really ) XD call me what ya want im learning it and getting my buds to join me college is next year might aswell live it up (im NOT a raver.. yet anyway) ^^
Its evolved because of the expressing in the dance , You can express alot through a battle with a freind , and most the crews i dunno about the rest of the world , but the ones in perth are all good freinds with eatch other (y)
alot of peopel make groups or 'crews' and have meet ups for the fun of it!!!! most of the battles are just fun showing how thay have practised and what thay have improved on. its like saying japanese cartoons are now exploited becoz america regenerates them in english
What you've stated essentially confirms my comment, in that the need to display your skills to others or the need to display your improvements was never a core attribute of the early rave years.
Your comparison of japanese anime to raves doesn't really make sense as japanese to english translations are done to preserve the content of the original cartoon. This description does not fit the rave scene as what is happening now would not be considered as a preservation of the original culture
@EvilSweatSHOP My theory is that the new shufflers, like me, who have learned through vids due to lack of real life shuffle examples, have learned to shuffle with the idea to have fun AND look good. I believe that's the key difference between the old and new generation. I'll agree with what most are trying to say... shuffling is, in a way, losing it's value as a unique rave dance... but that only means you can't feel as good for knowing a rare rave dance. In the end it's still fun, no?
@EpiZen: To be honest, you've got a really valid point there, it's pretty hard to know what shuffling actually is when you learn from the people around you. Point taken dude. All I can say is that looking good shouldn't be an objective of shuffling, the difference between 'old' and 'new' is that looking good when shuffling was a natural extension from dancing to the music, . Eh... as i see it, do the chicken dance on the dance floor if it makes you happy. As long as there's no violence = OK
They are being exploited... kids should just learn how to read and fucking watch the originals with subs none of this dubbing bullshit xD but yeah off topic aye xD
The main problems essentially are: Commercialisation of the rave scene which has led to raves being seen as a normal thing, newer gen. ravers have brought aggressive behaviours into the scene which is contrary to how raves used to be and the evolution of rave music istelf; Hardstyle, HardTrance, etc...., this style/tempo of music is faster, harder and more aggressive than the old years
The golden years of rave are unrecoverable as the current raves has been intergrated into mainstream culture
The music 'evolution' has been happening for a while. Generally speaking, listen for people classifying all music with bass and minimal lyrics as 'dance' or 'techno' without being able to tell the difference between any of the styles of electronic music.
These are the people that are saturating the scene without understanding where it all came from and why ravers rave.
Unfortunately, the progression and evolution of music, specifically techno, suffers when talent, skill and technique are removed from the equation.
From what I noticed, when the pool of decent 'old school' DJ's eventually faded away from the scene and a new generation entered, a lot of the skill and innovation was lost... Because this has happened, the evolution of techno/rave music has not been as unique and innovative. Also, everyone thinks that beatmatcing CDs qualifies them to be a DJ.
jeez calm down. obviously it has turned competitive because people enjoy it more like that. people enjoy pushing themselves to get better. so they can feel better about themselves for winning. if shuffling has gone to the streets and you didnt want it to then go cry to your mum. where i live not that many people can shuffle. i know 2 other people that can. so calm the fuck down how old are you??? 35??? go eat your dick. and dont bother arguing back like a bitch, i wont reply.
@imingunit1 I don't, I couldn't give a flying hoot about the guy dancing next to me. Him competing with me is just gonna wreck the vibe. I'm there to bug out, not have some kiddo jump in front of me and act like a retard. And cuz you only know 2 people who can shuffle means you are a backwoods retard.
tbh i think its just a phase we(teens) will/are going thru. thru my personal experience with shuffling, i began shuffling kaz i thought it loked cool and it interested me but also i was into battles as the only videos me nd my mates kuld find were battles etc... when u stick to shuffling long enough you realise what its really about. you realise that its not about crews nd such, but about the passion of the dance nd music. i think that later on in the future the scene will get beta kaz of this.
you contradicted yourself, you say its not about anyone else, and then say everybody does it so its no longer special, why would you only want to do it if you thought it was special unless you were showing off?
how often do you actually see a shuffle crew in a nightclub all geared up?
who said there was anything ultracompetitive about the crews? from what ive seen most of them are mates with each other.
people cant even battle in clubs anyway, theres no room.
if a bunch of kids are enjoying themselves, hooking up with friends and shuffling, who cares if there is a competitive edge?
i am not in a crew, i dont plan to be, im the only one of my friends that shuffles, hell, im one of 3 people that i know of that even know how to do it in the thousands of friends and friends-friends in area.
sure when i start at a party, people start chanting my name, and form a circle, but i ignore it and keep rocking, and keep going after the circle has dissipated...
you are a fucking retard if you dont get what he is saying !!! the rave scene use too be all about "P.L.U.R". and if you dnt knw what that is then ur a mega fag ! shuffling is a expressive dance not a competitive one. the scene is played out now !! cause all you crew fags out there !!! dam little kids killing what we started... stop shuffling in the street you look lame !!!
?? did you not read my comment? i understand exactly what he's saying.
however, i think that while it is happening, i dont think the world of crews is affecting the rave scene. Like i said, how often do you actually see a crew all geared up in a club?
i dont see why anybody should care that a bunch of mates drive each other to get better and better, and then show their other friends , if it doesn't actually spill into the clubs...
i also recommend watching bigmilans video response. he just about outlines most of my views, but if you dont pay attention you may think he's just repeating this video, but he's not. the battles havnt gone into the clubs, not being underground anymore isnt a bad thing, and shuffling with your mates, getting each other to improve is a good thing
@Neylonx I met those 2 kids at this rave who were shuffling. Then I stopped by the party they told me about. It was a hardstyle party, and whaaaaa, a load of crews. The place pretty much classifies as a club. Few of them camp there all the time actually.

The only decent raves are the ones where these little fuckers arent.
christopherryan33 1 month ago
You can still be in a crew and still shuffle to express not to impress, everyone that I know who Melbourne Shuffles are in it to express themselves through EDM not to impress. Having crews makes it easier to meet others in it for the same thing. I have met so many friends who Melbourne Shuffle through crews, it makes it easier to find those who are in it for the same. Whenever I'm out raving and someone comes up to me and says "you're so good" I say "it's all in the fun" There is no competition.

@DJsteppin I just went to raves and met with ''group of shuffling friends''. That's how easy it was to meet with plenty of other shufflers.

What's done is done, bitching like this won't change a thing.
iseedeadpeople0101 6 months ago

MrKtiger 5 months ago
@MrKtiger I think some people pride themselves on exclusivity way too much. We should be glad that more people are signing on and getting into the scene and enjoying the music. Perhaps they're scared of evolution and change... This always happens with any underground scene if it's any good. It gets big, evolves and becomes something new with more people. Those afraid of change can get left in the dust, crying about it and complaining isn't gonna change much regardless.
XSilvenX 5 months ago
@XSilvenX Amen!!!

@XSilvenX Change isnt bad. However when you take the physical side of it (dance and even the fashion) And use it for something completely different (being a stuck up little TB) thats when people have a problem. Not that all are like that. i know quite a few nice little kids who have the right idea. I also know some "grown ups" Who are as stupid as any tb

drtboy4 8 months ago
So much agree. I remember when breakdancing was just about having fun at a block party and when locking was just about partying in a club with fun movements, too. It felt good. I don't like how rockers are saying the shuffle is not a "street dance". Street originally referred to non-taught dances back in the day, such as stomping and american jazz. Thanks to crews the media is now confusing the term with the "in a street" shlock. By the way, you really should take notice of the comment below :)

dudester19931 9 months ago

I'm too young to have known rave when it was true rave, but Im quite spiritual about my 'choons and dance.

it is true that i started shuffling because i thought it looked cool. but i shuffle now for the love of the music and fun.

There were crews and battles since the beginning of the MS, and Iam sorry to burst your bubble but I have NEVER seen a crew make fun of other crew, it just doesn't happen, not in real life at least

i'm a bit sad that i got introduced to this scene when there were already crews and battles going on. but i was lucky enough to be introduced by the people who still carry out the vibe of the scene the old ways, no battles, no crews, just having fun, meeting new and nice people. the rave scene made me realise that there are "real" and unpretentious people out there; positivity, kindness still exist among strangers. this is where i met some of the best people.

all these new kids and their crews need to go to a party like 'earthcore' for 3 fricken days straight. maybe then they will learn how to apreciate the music and the scene for what it really is and experiance what raving is really about just like i did. leave their crew hoodies at home and forget their battles for 3 days of real fun with good mates, meet new people, dance and enjoy the feeling, have eye and mind opening experiances, all what a being raver is all about.

i completely agree with this vid, i wasnt a huge raver in my day but i did enjoy the few times i went out in melb to bubble and hard kandy in russle st when phd was across the road down that alley. back in 2001 when going out there was fun, there was no battles and no crews, just you and your mates and great dj's. i remember seeing steve hill play at phd early one morn after kandy closed was the best nite ever, i never danced so much apart from that nite. kids these days will never know this...

PunchAPeach 1 year ago
@PunchAPeach Indeed, I think if you want to have a care free attitude about it, and do it purely for your own enjoyment, then you shouldn't worry about how kids in malaysia or whereever are using it, just worry about what it means to you :)

crews are pretty nice for beginner shufflers, i found shuffling on youtube through one of their videos, it helps promote your dance....it's all your choice so if people want to be in a group and dance with the their friends/learn from their friends/ be taught from their friends and then slap a name on top then why does it matter? i've personally never seen a shuffle group fight or hate on eachother lol they all seem to be willing to learn or teach the other people...
iRoXsOxAlOt 1 year ago
@iRoXsOxAlOt I agree i don't know what these people are talking about...and if its to express not impress, why doesn't it matter if u go to raves? It's about the music not the scene in which you listen to it. And its up to the person what he wants to do with the music. Just because they want to have friendly competition and get together with their friends and give themselves a name...doesn't mean they are ruining the dance. I think these people are ignorant and they are ruining the dance.
rage711 1 year ago
#1: You say that competitive shuffling is bad and that being competitive is not shuffling to express. Well some people find competition FUN, which is the point! Besides, who said that meant YOU had to compete? That doesn't affect your fun. #2: You say Every kid on the block can shuffle so it isnt special anymore. Um, so your saying only a few people can have fun. If you want to feel special, go get good at shuffle and become one of the best. Or find the fun in YOUR shuffle and don't hate others.

But what´ll ya do?

I think we should have meetups to just shuffle with other fellow shufflers not to battle unless its really just for fun and not bragging rights.
In the end we should all go home thinking everyone did a great job =].

Fuck it. The PLUR is evidently dead, judging by half of these comments.. RIP Melbourne Shuffle.

@rex4kho All these kids at my school cos "shuffling looks kool" Grow the fuck up you know. i used to get made fun of for shuffling and listening to hardstyle and now all people do is listen to it, so you gotta show them whos boss with a shuffle battle.. I like to think of it like good vs. evil
anjunaraver14 1 year ago
@anjunaraver14 Lmao its all about jerking at my school. Also another shit dance.
rex4kho 1 year ago
@rex4kho Haha whatever floats there boat. I wish mainstreem would leave shuffling alone though, and the music. Its too good to be mainstreem, Listen to your damn akon and leave us alone,
anjunaraver14 1 year ago
what are you talking about that has nothing to do with my post. I don't care what you kids are doing these days. techno changed from month to month so i don't doubt it has changed in 10 years.
fuktheworld1 1 year ago
good vid. what kids don't realise is that the 'shuffle' (whatever the fuck that is) was formed from a bunch of cunts aboslutly fucked off their brain. A lot of ravers would say they couldnt dance while straight. There was competition but not in the literal sense. The express not impress term was used but mostly by good dancers.
Wearing the phat pants will just get you bashed. I thought the 'world' pants were phat back then.

this guy speaks the truth... I see people on the streets with phats and i just laugh.... Cause they are either on centrelink or homeless!

@TheShuffledevil chyeah im against crews too but i realised they do it to shuffle together outside a club.... because most crew ppl are minors n cant shuffle with ppl anywhere else n make one out of boredom.... but also some go overboard n become really fn annoying!

DarkRockRipper 2 years ago
Its evolved because of the expressing in the dance , You can express alot through a battle with a freind , and most the crews i dunno about the rest of the world , but the ones in perth are all good freinds with eatch other (y)
00Stuff00 2 years ago
alot of peopel make groups or 'crews' and have meet ups for the fun of it!!!! most of the battles are just fun showing how thay have practised and what thay have improved on. its like saying japanese cartoons are now exploited becoz america regenerates them in english
DaWoOdZmAn 2 years ago
What you've stated essentially confirms my comment, in that the need to display your skills to others or the need to display your improvements was never a core attribute of the early rave years.
Your comparison of japanese anime to raves doesn't really make sense as japanese to english translations are done to preserve the content of the original cartoon. This description does not fit the rave scene as what is happening now would not be considered as a preservation of the original culture
EvilSweatSHOP 2 years ago
@EvilSweatSHOP My theory is that the new shufflers, like me, who have learned through vids due to lack of real life shuffle examples, have learned to shuffle with the idea to have fun AND look good. I believe that's the key difference between the old and new generation. I'll agree with what most are trying to say... shuffling is, in a way, losing it's value as a unique rave dance... but that only means you can't feel as good for knowing a rare rave dance. In the end it's still fun, no?
EpiZen 2 years ago
@EpiZen: To be honest, you've got a really valid point there, it's pretty hard to know what shuffling actually is when you learn from the people around you. Point taken dude. All I can say is that looking good shouldn't be an objective of shuffling, the difference between 'old' and 'new' is that looking good when shuffling was a natural extension from dancing to the music, . Eh... as i see it, do the chicken dance on the dance floor if it makes you happy. As long as there's no violence = OK
EvilSweatSHOP 1 year ago
They are being exploited... kids should just learn how to read and fucking watch the originals with subs none of this dubbing bullshit xD but yeah off topic aye xD
cannonbulk 2 years ago
The main problems essentially are: Commercialisation of the rave scene which has led to raves being seen as a normal thing, newer gen. ravers have brought aggressive behaviours into the scene which is contrary to how raves used to be and the evolution of rave music istelf; Hardstyle, HardTrance, etc...., this style/tempo of music is faster, harder and more aggressive than the old years
The golden years of rave are unrecoverable as the current raves has been intergrated into mainstream culture
EvilSweatSHOP 2 years ago
The music 'evolution' has been happening for a while. Generally speaking, listen for people classifying all music with bass and minimal lyrics as 'dance' or 'techno' without being able to tell the difference between any of the styles of electronic music.
These are the people that are saturating the scene without understanding where it all came from and why ravers rave.
I hate radio...
pinkpawn 2 years ago

35??? go eat your dick. and dont bother arguing back like a bitch, i wont reply.
imingunit1 2 years ago

My crew is my friends.. We have fun and thats all.. I'm a raver, and I'm happy that way! Battleing is piece of shit, I hate it ;(
AquaBeat1 2 years ago
you contradicted yourself, you say its not about anyone else, and then say everybody does it so its no longer special, why would you only want to do it if you thought it was special unless you were showing off?
how often do you actually see a shuffle crew in a nightclub all geared up?
who said there was anything ultracompetitive about the crews? from what ive seen most of them are mates with each other.
people cant even battle in clubs anyway, theres no room.
your confusing 2 different worlds.
Neylonx 2 years ago
if a bunch of kids are enjoying themselves, hooking up with friends and shuffling, who cares if there is a competitive edge?
i am not in a crew, i dont plan to be, im the only one of my friends that shuffles, hell, im one of 3 people that i know of that even know how to do it in the thousands of friends and friends-friends in area.
sure when i start at a party, people start chanting my name, and form a circle, but i ignore it and keep rocking, and keep going after the circle has dissipated...
Neylonx 2 years ago
you are a fucking retard if you dont get what he is saying !!! the rave scene use too be all about "P.L.U.R". and if you dnt knw what that is then ur a mega fag ! shuffling is a expressive dance not a competitive one. the scene is played out now !! cause all you crew fags out there !!! dam little kids killing what we started... stop shuffling in the street you look lame !!!
nighthawk8347 2 years ago
?? did you not read my comment? i understand exactly what he's saying.
however, i think that while it is happening, i dont think the world of crews is affecting the rave scene. Like i said, how often do you actually see a crew all geared up in a club?
i dont see why anybody should care that a bunch of mates drive each other to get better and better, and then show their other friends , if it doesn't actually spill into the clubs...
Neylonx 2 years ago
i also recommend watching bigmilans video response. he just about outlines most of my views, but if you dont pay attention you may think he's just repeating this video, but he's not. the battles havnt gone into the clubs, not being underground anymore isnt a bad thing, and shuffling with your mates, getting each other to improve is a good thing
Neylonx 2 years ago
@Neylonx I met those 2 kids at this rave who were shuffling. Then I stopped by the party they told me about. It was a hardstyle party, and whaaaaa, a load of crews. The place pretty much classifies as a club. Few of them camp there all the time actually.
