My Dad was good, he worked his life away. but my mother was the problem, When I married, she disowned me and banned me from the family, told me I was dead in her eyes. Every morning I wake up hoping the pathetic music of today has vanished. Sadly I end up logging on to YouTube for comfort and then I find this peace of wonderful music. This song reminds me of the huge number of kids that are tossed out of their homes when they tell their parents they are gay! 30-40% of the homeless people in New York are gay-they were kicked out because it threatened their father/s false sense of masculinity. I grew up with a piece of shit stepfather. After I showed up to school with a black eye and choke marks they put me full time with my mother.... Who divorced him years before this. He adopted me from my real dad while they were married. I related to this song so much back then. Child abusers and molesters should all be killed. I mean that whole heartedly.

Genesis is/was 2 very different and distinct sounding bands:one fronted by Collins who has the better voice and one by Gabriel who had the vision, both of which are far superior to anything out there now, I mean really for all intents and purposes ROCK IS DEAD! ;o)

Amazing song..I am a fan of Genesis from Trespass to Calling all Stations so I love both PG and PC. From Suppers Ready to Abacab, for me each have their own uniqueness.
As for this song... I was the son that deserved this monicker... I drove my loving Dad to his wits end as a teenager. So now, being a father of two teenagers I can definitely relate!

this reminds me of my childhood my father is an acaholic and beat my mother most nights he used to throw us out the house in our night clothes we had to walk to police station so they could get us back in i lay away many a night listening to the shouting and smashing of things and my mother crying, i got out too have nothing more to do with either of them i also tryed to go back but it dosent work he will never change and my mother will never stand up to him shes a fool

Yes options to escape may be limited but I don't get why many mothers don't do what they can to get away from madness like this. Often you hear them say "but he loves me"/"but I love him" which is bs in my opinion. I've never had to go through what you do so this is an outsiders take. It's senseless but hang in there.

@annacuk me does it remind of the last journey with my dad. i drove him outside the city into the green. we visited much, but i was tired. on the home journey he got angry and was lightly drunken claim to drive my car. i disagreed. and then he was talking shit, i was too fast, blah. it ended that he was getting out of my car crying loudly
