Americans would perhaps employ cheap drones, which will either spot S-400 systems, or be shot down by them, revealing their location. Then, once location is known, they would send in real fighters.
There is little need to waste drones, these systems can be located by radar homing, however, this will not make the mission much easier for the fighter pilots, even if they manage to close in on an S-400 site, it will most likely be protected by systems such as the Tor-M1 and the Pantsir-S1, which can shoot down missiles fired at the site and the fighters which fired them.

Stealth always offers a radar signal, it may be weak but can be tracked by both skilled radar operators and newer systems. Look at the Spirit, Stealthy from the Sides, front and Back but ever seen it from above/below? Better Signal than the Lancer i guess...

A F-22 or F-35 would have to get damn close to be detected by a S-300 or S-400. Meanwhile the radar of that thing is going to get everybody's attention. Some F-16s or F/A-18s flying low could easily get close enough to launch some AGM-88E HARMs. Then once the radar and fire control systems have been torn to shreds, some cluster bombs will finish the job.
It's not so simple...Pantsir-S1 and the upcomping Morfei can defeat even saturation attacks...and all of those systems are highly mobile with a very short preparation time. Also penetrating enemy aircraft will be detected by EW radars almost certainly...that's why it's called INTEGRATED Air Defense. And I'm not even speaking of advanced passive sensors like Kolchuga.
Yet when the Russians are talking about our Navy's AEGIS air defense system they claim their missiles can easily beat it. Meanwhile I am to believe that their SA-15s will be destroying JDAMs and HARMs with 100% efficiency?
The truth is that an attack on a modern modern land-based integrated air defense system or a US Navy CBG would need a lot of missiles in order to succeed. Yet a SAM battery doesn't have as many missiles to work with as several Navy destroyers.
Good luck having operational experimental microwave weapons at every SAM battery. By the time those are ready our aircraft will have lasers that can destroy incoming SAMs.

Against stealthy targets, in specially like the F-22 it only has a maximum detection range of 20 km. So by the time it will detect the F-22, it will be long gone, destroyed. You should go and make some actual research before making a fool out of yourself with statements that are not backed up by any real life fact.

Oh please Russian S-400/300 are just going be useless as S-200 (SA-1 to SA-9). Just like all SAM in Vietnam, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq. They get easily jammed by Jammers pod. The EA-18G Growler would easily jammed S-300 and S-400 by using AN/ALQ-218 TJSR (Tactical Jamming System Receiver) and also with Next Generation Jammer use by F-35 also. SAM there days are over next in line are Death Rays and Energy Weapons.
US still has the most accurate inertian navigation technology -the AIRS which was installed in the late LGM-118. The disadvantage of this technology was high cost.,while being virtually zero drift.

Considering an SDB with diamond back lobbed by an F22 at supersonic speeds should have a range of hundred of km's, it's also cheap and can be used in massive numbers.

actually there was 3 my friend ! one crashed in Serbia, other two landed in Croatia and Macedonia with heavy damages ( with SAM systems,planes do not explode like in a movies when got hit by SAM rocket ) and also one B-2 unofficially crashed in Croatia ( i got friends in Zagreb who got relatives from that area in croatia who witness all cleaning and camouflage of the wreckage site, there was army of security around the crash site in some wood in Croatia )

The Russian SA-21 and SA-20 won't get a scratch on F-22 Raptor and especially the most invisible stealthiest B-2 Stealth Bomber aka Spirit. Petr Ufimtsev F-117 was not good use in US since it was his design in Russia when he defector to US. US made and design B-2 more invisibility and stealthiest than F-117. There are no radar would able to track B-2.

Stealth (f-22, b-29) is not equally invisible to all types of radars. under a determinated type of waves, the frequency and the type of the radar, they are not invisible at all. From the ufimitsev´s theories (father of stealth), and the experience of the serbs with the f-117, russians have learned a lot of how to counter stealth, and now they modify all their radars. So bombers like the b-2 are useless.

Americans would perhaps employ cheap drones, which will either spot S-400 systems, or be shot down by them, revealing their location. Then, once location is known, they would send in real fighters.

There is little need to waste drones, these systems can be located by radar homing, however, this will not make the mission much easier for the fighter pilots, even if they manage to close in on an S-400 site, it will most likely be protected by systems such as the Tor-M1 and the Pantsir-S1, which can shoot down missiles fired at the site and the fighters which fired them.

Stealth always offers a radar signal, it may be weak but can be tracked by both skilled radar operators and newer systems. Look at the Spirit, Stealthy from the Sides, front and Back but ever seen it from above/below? Better Signal than the Lancer i guess...

@LeMike I never said they've tested with real aircraft. Using aircraft like these as targets could cost many millions. They did, however, test the S-400's radars capability to locate "stealth" aircraft, and its capability to shoot down aircraft (not stealth, but its exactly the same, since by the time it's located, its a kill)

Damn the RUSSIA STRONG crowd (most of whom probably aren't even Russian) is stupid. The best defense against aircraft is another aircraft.
A F-22 or F-35 would have to get damn close to be detected by a S-300 or S-400. Meanwhile the radar of that thing is going to get everybody's attention. Some F-16s or F/A-18s flying low could easily get close enough to launch some AGM-88E HARMs. Then once the radar and fire control systems have been torn to shreds, some cluster bombs will finish the job.

It's not so simple...Pantsir-S1 and the upcomping Morfei can defeat even saturation attacks...and all of those systems are highly mobile with a very short preparation time. Also penetrating enemy aircraft will be detected by EW radars almost certainly...that's why it's called INTEGRATED Air Defense. And I'm not even speaking of advanced passive sensors like Kolchuga.

Yet when the Russians are talking about our Navy's AEGIS air defense system they claim their missiles can easily beat it. Meanwhile I am to believe that their SA-15s will be destroying JDAMs and HARMs with 100% efficiency?
The truth is that an attack on a modern modern land-based integrated air defense system or a US Navy CBG would need a lot of missiles in order to succeed. Yet a SAM battery doesn't have as many missiles to work with as several Navy destroyers.

@psychltu The yf-22 made in 1990 is very diffrent to the final product f-22. Besides you know fuck all about the t-50 or the j-20. So you cannot compare the aircraft. To use other examples the 1977 mig-29 and the 1978 f/a 18 hornet. Both made at the same time. But which one could pull verticle with load? The Mig, which one could engage targets are obscure angles? the Mig. Which one had long range radar? the Hornet. Both same era. It's impossible to say one is 30 years infront of the other.

The U.S. military is swamped in Afghan & Iraq, with the morale shattering effect any protracted war has on the troops; add an uncertain economic future regarding the U.S. military budget and American doesnt seem eligible to wage war against Russia. Russian itself is in no position to wage any war against any foreign power, much less vs. the U.S.A. It´s called "stalemate", just like in the good old days of the Cold War.

@vonkaunaz You don't know what you're talking about. How big do you think the S-400's radars detection range is. N0 more than 200 km. And that's for normal flying objects. Against stealthy targets, in specially like the F-22 it only has a maximum detection range of 20 km. So by the time it will detect the F-22, it will be long gone, destroyed. You should go and make some actual research before making a fool out of yourself with statements that are not backed up by any real life fact.

Oh please Russian S-400/300 are just going be useless as S-200 (SA-1 to SA-9). Just like all SAM in Vietnam, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq. They get easily jammed by Jammers pod. The EA-18G Growler would easily jammed S-300 and S-400 by using AN/ALQ-218 TJSR (Tactical Jamming System Receiver) and also with Next Generation Jammer use by F-35 also. SAM there days are over next in line are Death Rays and Energy Weapons.

These jammers were developed against common SAMs operated by most countries. They don´t work against a non standart system.

@ruskinko You may find that if a war ever did occur between the 2 powers the US would lob enough PGM's at these SAM sites that they would runout of missiles to attack them. Considering an SDB with diamond back lobbed by an F22 at supersonic speeds should have a range of hundred of km's, it's also cheap and can be used in massive numbers.

But it would be suicidal against Russia, simply because it has an inimaginable SAM size, as well as a big fleet of interceptors. Russian Anti air troops are the biggest in the world. Also the high altitude strategy won´t work, since russian SAM´s can reach any altitude.

You now this claim to be able to shoot down cruise missiles form hundreds of km's is bogus, because these radars can't see over the horizon, they would only be able to see then 10's of km's away. I imagine the US would be quite happy lobbing 30,40,50 cruise missiles at a site to guarantee its destruction. They have the capability to do that.

@aerofilll actually one F117 was lost and they never use jammers. The F117 is so old it has been out of service for several years now. The F117 is about as different to America's current technology as the bi plane is to the jet fighter.

actually there was 3 my friend ! one crashed in Serbia, other two landed in Croatia and Macedonia with heavy damages ( with SAM systems,planes do not explode like in a movies when got hit by SAM rocket ) and also one B-2 unofficially crashed in Croatia ( i got friends in Zagreb who got relatives from that area in croatia who witness all cleaning and camouflage of the wreckage site, there was army of security around the crash site in some wood in Croatia )

@Jospehporta NATO did use jammers over Serbia and like this dude say more than one F117 was lost, 2 F16 fighters drop few miles away from my house in Croatia and few F16/F18 in Bosnia but ofc army clear the mess up in few hours.and all that was done with SAM systems made in 1960,if Serbs have S300 NATO would lose 70% of planes in those 80 days of bombing

Da palo je dosta NATO aviona ja licno vijerujem negdije oko 20 i dosta velik broj je ostecen,ali NATO ima veoma puno aviona na raspolaganju tako da za njih to su bili minimalni gubitci.
Ali ako pogledas sa druge strane da su Srbi koristili rakete tipa S-125 Neva&2K12 Kub iz 1960s onda ti minimalni gubitci postaju zabrinjavajuci i postavlja se pitanje sta bi bilo da je Srbija imala rakete tipa S300 iz 1978,Nato avioni bi padali u velikom broju svaki dan ...

@njegosh1 Iran posijeduje prijeko 400 fighter aviona Mirage F1(24) Mig 29 (98) F14 (60) F4 (210) ITD to je sve zastarijela tehnologija,cak i ako kupe HQ-9&S300 SAM sisteme ameri mogu da pociste pod sa njima samo uz puno vece gubitke .
Rusi su razbili gerogiju za 5 dana sa SU27&Mig 29 i tankovima T80 a Georgia ima bolje SAM sisteme od Srbije
Srbija neposijeduje kako narod prica tajne raketne sisteme to je mit.
USA je bankrupt tako da od rata sa Iranom nece biti nista...

The Russian SA-21 and SA-20 won't get a scratch on F-22 Raptor and especially the most invisible stealthiest B-2 Stealth Bomber aka Spirit. Petr Ufimtsev F-117 was not good use in US since it was his design in Russia when he defector to US. US made and design B-2 more invisibility and stealthiest than F-117. There are no radar would able to track B-2.

Stealth (f-22, b-29) is not equally invisible to all types of radars. under a determinated type of waves, the frequency and the type of the radar, they are not invisible at all. From the ufimitsev´s theories (father of stealth), and the experience of the serbs with the f-117, russians have learned a lot of how to counter stealth, and now they modify all their radars. So bombers like the b-2 are useless.
