  • Look at those nails! Dude must be a serious nylon string player.

  • thanks for the tips uploader ,

Some examples of Songs using Open E.....

    David Gray ~ Shine

    David Gray ~ Living Room

David Gray ~ Flame turns blue

  • so i found out how to do good slide blues guitar, open tunings, not experienced in blues so for now it still all sounds the same haha

  • i dont know what your talking about all i want to do is tune it to a e minor not to a b g and watever

  • nice nails dude...

  • In My Time of Dying by Zepplin is in this tuning. it's pretty amazing.

  • You sound like Storm from Paul and Storm

  • I have written many songs in open e! My latest "lennon's creed" is in open e stop by and check it out!

    Donald Pardy

  • Why not tune it down to open D? Then you can just capo it and you don't run the risk of breaking a string.

  • @JackG994 Exactly! I use Open D normally anyway, so the capo is a simple adaptation and I never break any strings that way.

  • Ive been playing in open E for a few weeks now, But when I tune rgular again my stings dont sound the same at allll. WHats with that?

  • it sounds like playing in open e is way easier, also to sound really cool if you dont know how to play guitar that good lol

  • great video. the two views is soooo helpful.

  • That sounds kinda like a led zeppelin song

  • @drunkass77 "thats the way"

  • What brand is that guitar?

  • she talks to angels by the black crowes is in this tuning, do you have copyrights on the msic in these tutorials?

  • @lordofthestrings02 Yes, we do. We have arrangements with publishers and artists for hundreds of Billboard hits. We produce lessons on that basis. You must have rights to make these kinds of lessons and sell or even broadcast them for free. We don't understand how others can do this "free" on the web, but we believe in paying the artists for their genius -- while teaching you how they play their songs more accurately than any sources might do. We're not perfect, but that's the mission.

  • @lordofthestrings02 Hahaha... You got pwned.

  • @PIEgunz how so?

  • @chimeran3 yes but for some tunings you have to learn different fingerings for the chords and notes

  • So heavier guage (guage?) strings exert more tension on the guitar?

  • I have been learning so much from everyone on youtube, ultimate guitar and the computer on general from everyone. I am going to start to contribute myself, It should be free, when I teach or have taught in the past the most I have ever asked is that you want to learn and that you try. Okay you can buy me pint although its not required < id already have one. ROCK ON

  • Tune to Open D

DADF#AD and put a capo at the 2nd Fret

  • @Bentherocker1

Yes, you're right. I've decided to keep my acoustic in DADGAD, and I like to capo it on the second fret to make it open E. Both DADGAD and "open E" have such great sounds.

  • i broke my fucking string

  • same here ugh

  • @RomeroDelgado Better for your instrument to tune DOWN, not up. If you want to play in a higher key, put a capo on!

  • @RomeroDelgado I am using ultra lights that cost me 20+ bucks I will pass lol....

  • i love this tuning

  • what would you call this tuning if the third string was tuned to an F# instead of a G#. and then the high E was tuned to a D#!

  • the headmaster ritual by the smiths uses this tuning, a really cool song, and beutiful to play on guitar.

  • if u dont want to break you strings if your using electric use rotosound 10 regular strings

  • You can also use Open D tuning, and just capo at the second fret, if your strings are a little old.

  • My A string broke when I tried to tune it to B. I'm using bronze strings. What kind of strings should I be using?

  • Elixir Rules

  • Are there any lessons for people who don't have tuners ?? I can't go that fast, lol. :) Good info though!

  • dude that's bad! yo

  • Ace! can anyone tell me (using this tuning) some minor chords? Are minor chords possible? And is there a reference tab list somewhere for the open E tuning ... like, the finger positions for the most common chords, A, E, C, F, G.. etc? Cheers!

  • Minor chords are possible, but quite challenging as essentially (from E to E) you'd need to play 222122, if you think about the difference between E major and E minor in standard tuning.

For an easier way, try tuning to E sus 2 (lower the G string instead of raising it, so it sounds a B on fifth fret), then you can use a single 222222 bar for sus 2's, you use your middle finger to play 222322 for minors, and your ring finger to play 222422 for majors :)

    Hope that helps!

  • E-B-E-B-B-E - is that what you're saying? And are there any chord charts for this tuning?

  • E-stay. A->B. D->E. G->Gsharp. B-stay. e-stay.

  • thanks, i was unsure of the tuning originally. now i know.

  • is this the same tuning for john mayer's "in your atmosphere"? thanks

  • thanks man this helped me alot

  • yeah this tuning part really helped because I wanted to play this song called Say It To Me Now by Glen Hansard an I needed an Open E Tunign to play it.

  • I thought he was pretty good.

  • This is a fun tuning. Personally I prefer open D. Has a deeper more resonant tone and it's not as stressful on your strings or the neck.

Thanks for posting. This is some good info.

  • little martha by the allman brothers band must be in this tuning, it sounds exactly like it

  • Yes you're right it is.

  • @iVideosongs Duane Allman played it in Open D its %100 fact

  • I cannot tell you how much this video means to me. 30 years and counting playing in open E. Rediculed and mocked. Yet I smoke most of them within moments after we begain playing any given song. Please see my open E performances if you would like at my Youtube site.

  • Why do you get mocked? It's an extremely beautiful tuning.

  • Beautiful indeed. Open E has been my standard tunning for most of my career. It has taken me all over the world in my 30 years of playing guitar. Now I have an education in music theory and playing in standard which has mad e me into quite the player. A double threat if you will. P.S. It takes time to get there but if you want it and you put in the time. Almost anyone can play music and make a living with their art. From: Cosio Galko.

  • I already am a musician looking for my lucky break :P. That's so awesome

  • You Derek Trucks? lol

I joke. It's good to know he way around tunnings. I'm try my best to get into open E. It takes alot of time and dedication.

  • @cosiogalko I'm a bass player who has started playing acoustic and electric strictly in open e and d. I love the tone. How did you learn the more expansive techniques in this tuning (for example playing 7th chords)?
