@Chumbbo haha i do and dont get me wrong, or think im being a smartass or something, but why? not trying to be offensive or start an argument haha just wondering. love for jack johnson
You know, it's really too bad, 4 people became prisoners of their own pasts stabbed a moment in the back with a brown thumb tack, that held up the list of things he gotta do, it's really no good, moving on before they understood shot the future in the foot with every step it took, from the places that they've seen because they forgot to look. XD sorry if you found that offensive in any way..
But really, Jack made and continues to make inspiring and relaxing music, i love to stick this C.D in when i pitch my tent up on the beach. Nothing like Just getting out of a wet suit, sitting by a camp fire, eating pot noodle, drinking some beer and listening to Jack Johnson.
well all this best ever shit seems a litttle retarded no i mean, lets think about it there be some world famous bands and singers and lets face it they've been god awful example spie girls best girl group ever yes best music nooooo and jack johnson is amazing at what he does better than john lennon for sho arrogant prick XD yes i do know what i've started but aww well
quit arguin. damn. ur on youtube listenin to songs. doin that doesnt prove anythin. if u want to piss on each other, find each other in person and do it.
@simsey33 I can't think one person on that list, simsey, who I like better than Jack Johnson. Love Lennon. But I just dig a guy, more, who clearly has husband and daddy higher on his list of priorities than center of musical attention. And has it come out clear as a bell in his songwriting. Bet John's kids would have, too. Best most kids would. And I happen to like his music better, as well, as it turns out.
@benfrankln Well thats fine dude, I was directing my comment at 'thebman 132' for saying he was the best of all time so I dont care if you have your dick up the guys ass every night, calling him the best of all time is WAY off the mark.....
@simsey33 I don't mind anyone having an opinion, simsey. But I do think you're wrong that calling Jack Johnson one of the greatest of all time is off the mark. There may be competitors. But he's definitely on that short list. And calling me a faggot just kind of punctuates your irrationality in the matter, really. And perhaps kinda illustrates why you don't understand the appeal. Which really is too bad.
@benfrankln Read my comment again - I said he's good - so I understand the appeal he is not 1 of the greatest of all time and thats not just an opinion, its fact!
If you think JJ has the same musical talent as Jeff Buckley, John Lennon, Jimmy Page, Jimmy Hendrix etc then you dont know/understand enough about music to appreciate what i'm saying. Any musician will tell you the same.
re faggot: was just loose joke implying that maybe his lover would call him the best of all time...
@simsey33 Perhaps it was that phase where I learned to write in complete English. Perhaps my affinity for thought and language will wane in the coming years. Or perhaps not. I'm betting on the latter.
Well your English in that last comment sucks balls so perhaps when your English improves so will your musical taste.
Jack Johnson is good but compared to the musical and lyrical greats he's average.
Thats not even an opinion, it's a fact. You can love him as much as you want, the the greatest ever, he is not.
So, to close this up - you're talking complete and utter shit if you think he is and your lack of musical knowledge is glaringly obvious when you make those stupid statements.
Ah your just reading what you want to read kiddo, I never said it was fact 'because i said so'. Its a fact because musical greatness is a measurable and respected thing. Jack Johnson is not (as was categorically stated by 'thebman132' and what prompted my response followed by your withering but entertaining interjections) the "best songwriter/singer of all time". He isn't, and thats just the way the world is, the world you live in may be different however......wake up
Jack's singing abilities are top-notch. His guitar playing abilities are far above average, for all of the crowing by amateurs about how simple his tunes are (a sign of greatness for those actually aspiring for genuine greatness in art and not merely commercial appeal). And his song-writing abilities are off the charts. Noone even touches his ability to combine purpose with melody.
@simsey33 But the fact is that guitar playing skills are one facet in a whole slew of criteria that define musical greatness. His instrumentation with his voice and his guitar are well above average. And his songwriting is unmatched. Unmatched. There is noone who produces more thoughtful, meaningful, relevant music today. And does so while leading by example and thoughtfully critiquing everything that is wrong with both popular music and popular culture, generally.
@simsey33 The crowing is generally by those who don't care about purpose in their music. Which is all fine and good. But musical talent without purpose is not a sign of greatness. No matter how many ways you try to argue that position. It's a sign of popular appeal. Which is also all fine and good. But it's not greatness.
I don't care that you like popular musicians, Simsey. I care that you confuse your popular tastes with genuine greatness. And the confusion is exactly the problem.
@benfrankln you're a child in love with a musician - and I dont even hold that against you.
But to be so stupid and narrow minded to believe this musician is the greatest of all time, well thats just a tragic shame. Expand your mind kid, try to actually play guitar, piano and drums. Experience how difficult it is to create. Broaden your musical tastes/influences. Then in 10 yrs look at what you have said here.
Then you will laugh, like I have.
Education is a great thing, dont deny yourself....
What godly musical knowledge do you possess that allows you to profess so strongly and passionately that JJ is the greatest, better than anyone EVER???
Whatever it is you certainly havent displayed it on any of your posts here...
Please, share it with the rest of us.
All you have done is demonstrate great stubborness, an unbelievable narrowmind and a valley of ignorance that defies belief at this stage of the debate.
If you cannot open up your tiny brain - dont even bother replying
@simsey33 You're debating someone else, dude. I didn't say he was the greatest of all time. I said he was on the short list. And he is. Hendrix could play. But he didn't know what he was playing about, most of the time. Jack is just more profound than Jimmy, no offense to Jimmy. Lennon and McCartney are roughly comparable, but are stronger, like Shakespeare, at combining timeless musical composition with popular appeal. Jack is not as strong at popular appeal. Though he is good enough.
@benfrankln Actually, the truth is that Jack isn't as concerned with popular appeal. Because he thinks music can be more than that. And there is noone who matches him in respect on the scene, today, and perhaps ever, period.
@simsey33 And the plain fact is that Jack is a healthy antidote to even the obsession with popular appeal that folks like Lennon and Shakespeare and you, friend, who start to get it confused with musical genius because the plain fact is that they haven't thought about it enough and what truer genius constitutes - meaning genuine musical wisdom - relative to the brilliant guitar playing of Steve Vy or the outstanding vocal range of Christina Aguilera, but not greatness on either of their parts.
@benfrankln I don't mind that you like popular music or confuse it with genuine musical greatness, Simsey. Even genuine musical geniuses like Lennon or Charles lost track. I don't expect you to get it straight, out of the gates.
But Jack does have it more straight, is the truth. And the fact that his life is better centered and solid than any of those folks that you or I just named has everything to do with that.
@simsey33 He just doesn't confuse popular appeal with what really matters in music and life, like you have clearly done in your list and as so many even very genius artists do in their lifetimes.
And that kind of genius is worth its weight in gold, is the truth.
Jimmy figures out the electric guitar and feedback. He dies at 27. End of story.
@benfrankln Jack is just smarter than all that bullshit, is the truth. And his music reflects that. If you listen to his broader body of work. And if you don't, you can have Jimmy. And you can have his life, too, if you want. And you just miss out on this dude's genius is the truth. It's all your's, dude. Long live, Jimmy.
I had this conversation all summer with my cousin, Simsey. And the bottom line is that he and you are wrong. It is very nice and fine that others have more elaborate guitar playing skills. Though the fact is that most of the folks who make the observation, in my experience, don't play guitar as well as Jack.
But the fact is that guitar playing skills are one facet in a whole slew of criteria that define musical greatness.

And does so while leading by example and thoughtfully critiquing everything that is wrong with both popular music and popular culture, generally.
@simsey33 I appreciate that you appreciate other artists, Simsey. It's terrific. But the fact is that instrumentation abilities, alone, do not define musical greatness. For those too lazy or cowardly to consider purpose served by strong musicality, perhaps. But everything else is pretense, is the truth. And a sign of reviewers with their priorities out of whack. And so be it. But no reason for Jack to stoop just because less mature fans can't find it in themselves to grow up.
@benfrankln I don't mind that you aren't as grown up as Jack, simsey. I mind that you confuse your immaturity with something that should be taken more seriously.
You must be musically ignorant. ignorant means without the proper information or knowledge which you clearly do not have. Hendrix, 10 times the guitarist (in his sleep) of JJ. Jeff Buckley, one of the most amazing EVER, JJ doesn't even come close, Melody and Rhythm, look at Bob Marley. Add to this, Jimmy Page, Dylan, Muddy, A Franklin, M Gaye, P Greene, J Joplin, P Kline, Al Greene, CSNY, P Gabriel, R Orbison, J Taylor etc etc etc.
'Noone even touches his ability to combine purpose with melody' You MUST be fucking joking. No, actually your passion has just blinded you! Blinded you good and proper.
I'm not debating whether JJ is good or not. I'm debating the best of all time statement. If you HONESTLY believe that JJ is THE greatest musician/singer/songwriter of ALL TIME, wee all I can say is that Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles are both blind, but not as blind as you!
Spend a day (pr 10 yrs) and listen to Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Ben Harper, David Bowie..............Dave Gilmour, Jimmy Page, John Lennon etc etc and 100 others.
Then take your head from your ass and delete the Jack Johnson best of all time comment!

@benfrankln So lets sum this up.
I like JJ - you LOVE him (fair enough)
Yes his music is relevant
Yes his singing is v good
He is a good guitarist.
In the real world, of more than one opinion, he is NOT the greatest.
not because i say so - just because he has his limits.
I'm not so stupid as to say ONE PERSON is the greatest of all time, thats not my argument.
Why is it you can't step back and say - ok, he might NOT be the greatest of all time but he's very good and I like him???

@simsey33 But the fact is that guitar playing skills are one facet in a whole slew of criteria that define musical greatness. His instrumentation with his voice and his guitar are well above average. And his songwriting is unmatched. Unmatched. There is noone who produces more thoughtful, meaningful, relevant music today. And does so while leading by example and thoughtfully critiquing everything that is wrong with both popular music and popular culture, generally.

@benfrankln
YOU ARE A FOOL
u like JJ - cool.
but u go WAY 2 far!

@benfrankln
Dude, read your comments again - pease!
