@pyote5 Well I'm actually not too sure what my fastest speed is...but I am thinking of revisiting this subject soon in another video, so I'll let you know :)
i think its super important to do your finger excersises without the index finger to get them up to par with how fast you are with your index finger. your speed and acuracy will improve a ton imo
@commando7144 i agree 100% with this, thats exactly what I do and my speed has improved emencely. Only exercise the ring finger and pinky, to come up to speed with the rest. infact pay more attention to the ring finger because its the least flexible out of the others.
I see many neoclassical shred guys killing them selves by, playing their 4/4 paterns starting on 1,in fact they tend to start everything they play on 1.This is goddamnation, the road to hell!!Try 123,4123,4123,4123 in stead of 1234,1234,1234,This should be sreamed in to the ears of every guitar teacher!GET FROM THE DAMN ONE!!! Ever thought realy deeply about, why Shawn preferd the upstroke????????

I think you should play slowly and surely, making a conscious effort to play with perfect technique but at some point you have to take risks and you have to go for it, if you always play perfectly it is hard to speed up. I like Bob Brozman's approach, he sais he's not happy if he finishes a concert without 5 or 6 mistakes because he's not taking enough risks
Shawn lane's technique was different from when he played fast to when he played slow, Shawn tilted the pick to play fast and held it with not such an angle playing slow.
My technique is the same fast or slow it is just what works for me.
How does he tilt the pick .. I mean, is he keeping his pick 90 degrees to the string so that the string and his pick will form a sort of a cross ?? or does it mean no angle between the pick and the string? i can't see his hands clearly in his videos, they are moving so fast..
Sometimes it's easier to go faster when the pick is nearer 90 degrees to the string- but when you decide how you should angle your own pick, speed shouldn't be your first concern.
You should be first thinking about which sounds better and is most comfortable.
Good video. Michael Angelo Batio says that "when people pick fast they are fine but when you go to slow down your picking technique changes" So he says "pick as fast as possible and then slow it down to see if you can maintain the same picking technique". What shredders need is total consistancy with their picking hand...You have to play fast the way you play slow and visa versa!
You are right, it is different when he plays slow because i've seen it myself on his metal method dvd...I kind of wondered about that...Btw, what really helped my alternate picking is to play UP strokes like Paul Gilbert did. It's alot easier to play down than up!
Hey Rob. Im curious to know how fast you can pick yourself.. I like your advice.

I agree with that- if you never made mistakes, you would never have anything to learn.
It may be hard to speed up when playing "perfectly", but that's the challenge. :)

@Chainsawmaniacguitar watch the video titled "shawn lane talks about speed".. if you havent.

It's probably somewhere in between the two.

@MrEddievanhalo but watch MAB play. His picking hand is completely different when he plays slow compared to fast.
