I only have Leviathan and Crack The Skye, I really need to listen to CTS more but Leviathan is easily one of the best metal albums of the decade...hell my favorite!

That's how I felt about Mastodon.

At first I was like.. "Hmm" and then I was like "THIS IS AWESOME!". After I learned the meaning behind Crack in the Skye, all the lyrics in the album come together and it's really really deep. Mastodon turned into my favorite band over a couple weeks.. and that is a feat in it's own! Amazing band. I couldn't say it any other way.

Great review, But I think this, and crack they skye are not their best albums. I understand you grew out of your heavy metal phase, as you said, But I think Leviathan is their best album. It is honstly the most brutal and progressive album they have put out. Its also the first album troy and brent really started to experiment with their singing on, as appose to the yelling/ grunting on remission or call of the mastodon. Iv seem these boys 5 times now, and they never dissapoint. Please support em

This album is really great. Mastodon's concepts are so weird. This album is about a guy searching for the Crystal Skull. And about Queens of the Stone Age, Josh Homme did guest vocals on Colony of Birchmen. You should definitely just get there other stuff. Leviathan is a great album too. I have Remission, but I haven't really listened to it a whole lot.
