he did a great show the day before the closing ceremonies to a mixed local and foreign crowd near ladies street in beijing. each ticket were sold at a fixed premium of 500 yuan general admission, yet the place was absolutely packed! olympic souvenirs were also way expensive.

I was a fan as a teenager, but I think nowadays he is a little bit co-opted by the system.... Still like his old songs though.

I said he's mature not because he's cooperative, but he understands china's problem better. And based on this better understanding, he happens to agree with the policies of the autority more. So co-opt is a result of being mature, not how you define mature.
