And LunayaM, MST3K was originally a seriously low-budget production with pretty much all their props hand-made. They eventually got more money after a few seasons, but elected to deliberately keep the low-budget look.

Funny thing about the skull in the boiling water...

A few years ago this old man hooked an old boiler system up to his bathtub for a budget hot tub, but he suffocated from the heat (I think) and by the time anyone went looking for him his body was made into a stew, like pot roast. No really, it's true! I saw it on the now defunct morgue dot org site that featured crazy accidents such as this one.
