Hi - would you happen to have a video showing two things: how to properly adjust this pack on a person and also how to switch/remove the shoulder straps? I downloaded your scans of the front and back sheets, but they were not high resolution. Would you happen to have the manual? Great vids!
Great video I’m going to pick mine up hopefully this weekend up in San Diego CA if you guys are looking try Craigslist around some of military bases preferably Marine Base and even military surplus around bases.
Hi BH! great video, but what was the name of he ebay store you bought it form, and do you know of a manual that shows how to take apart the shoulder straps and adjust the two internal frame stays? Thanks for any info you can provide!
@good2go201 just search for ILBE in ebay you will be able to pick the best one or bit at the one you like according to your budget, I got my hands on one of them after 2 weeks looking and waiting for thr best looking, I have a great purchase and a upgrade from the ARMY mole II, nothing worng woth the mole II just an upgrade to a internal frame. Great backpack.
great pack, im from the UK, and these are better than the British Army Pack, can you please tell me the weight of these please ?? thanks great review by the way !
Hey there BeeHiking. Great video and nicely done, especially since it was your first. I have tried finding your store on eBay, but with no luck. Are you still selling these? If not, do you know any trustworthy sources? I would really like to get one of these bags, but I'm having trouble locating a supplier. Even eBay is failing me.
@BrianLiles Sorry, I do not have any of the main packs in at this time. I see a few on eBay under key word ILBE. I do not know of another dealer personally but things to check for is their feedback score, if it has the lid and waist belt, and ask the seller a few questions before making the purchase. One question to ask is "Is this a photo of the actual bag I will receive". Some dealers will use a stock photo on their surplus items. ...More below
@BeeHiking And ask them if there are any rips/ tears so their answer is documented through the eBay messaging system in the event you receive the pack and it is not as described you can file the claim and receive your refund.
@Beehiking Thanks for the video. I have one and I love it. But five years ago I move and some how the waists strap got lost. I can use one from another backpack or make my own, but is not the same as having the original. Do you or anyone knows were to get one. I look all over the internet and found nothing. Thanks
I had one fell on hard times and sold it........... I bought it for $70 because it had no lid. Made my own from another pack. Now I'm trying to find another and about dropped dead at the prices.
I bought this pack on ebay because of this review. I didnt get one with the lid or radio bag, but it is a great bag. The only thing I dont like about it is the comp straps are really really long.Anyone have any ideas for a modular lid I could get for my pack? I dont want to spend the kind of money people are asking for the lids.
@murphysborounderdark The straps are long but your bag should have came with elastic bands to roll the straps up into. If you don't have these I make them in black. You get 5 of them for $7 shipped. If interested personal message me and I will get your PayPal info. I have checked eBay and the lids are going for $30+ right now. Well worth it if you ask me.
@BeeHiking Thanks. I do have some of the elastic bands. I'm just nit picking a little on that point. I'll have to check ebay again for a lid. When I bought my pack last year they were asking more for the lids than the pack. Thanks for the care instructions and webpage info.
Reconnisaince is lighter for getting in and out fast to get info without the target knowing. You wouldn't go sneaking around an enemy base with your massive pack jangling around alerting every enemy in the area. So yeah, recon is lighter.
Nice pack, but I think the designated bladder-pouch is in the worst possible place, butting the heavy bladder as far away from your body as possible ...
Those two small handles on the side of the back support/padding area are not for carrying the ruck, they are for donning the ruck. You place your hands on the inside of the shoulder straps and grab the handles with the lid at your feet and the bottom of it away from you, then flip it onto your back and let your arms slide through the shoulder straps. This is how we get our 120 pound rucks on in the Marines...
This pack is fucking diesel, kept one from when i was in. BTW the quick release is for going swimming, you wouldn't want to dick around with it every time you take it off. Just sayin. Good review.
The area on the outside of the pack that he is using to carry and store his hydration system is designed to carry and store an "Assault Pack". The "Assault back has the hydration system in it. The small pocket that he is placing the hydration system in is for storing the flap not the hydration system. Also a new pack comes with the main pack, assault pack and the hydration system.
@KenTenn2007 They do not come with a bladder. The USMC hydration pack is made by a company called Source. The military issue is the WXP USMC Coyote. The military issue is about twice as expensive as the non issue. they make the same thing but with the Source logo tag on it. I purchased the nonissue on eBay for $30 and it is awesome. The shoulder straps fold up into the carrier and the modular system will loop right into the MOLLE weave on the ILBE. I got to get a new video up of my latest setup
How much does that ruck cost? It does seem vastly superior to the MOLLE 2. Also,,, "Large mountains in Florida" ??? I didn't know that Florida even had small mountains. Where are they?.... and Space Mtn. at Disney World doesn't count!
@DarcMac Good of you to listen... There are no mountains here in Florida. The main reason I carry the rope is to tie up shelter or my dog. Unfortunately I do not have any more of these in stock at the moment but you can check eBay to find some. I do have the smaller ILBE Field Pack in stock which I hope to make a video of soon. They are priced at $120 in great condition. The MOLLE does not compare at all.
I paid 248.50 for the one BeeHiking has here, although my lid has no MOLLE webbing on the inside. It was listed as a RECON, but the lady selling it didn't know it was a standard, so most avoided the auction. It came with a radio pouch and was brand new, the aluminum stays still had tags on them. Look an excellent RECON to set you back 450 - 650 on e-Bay. Make sure you do your research and know what you are buying with the RECON. Go to the Marine Corps Systems Command page and download info.
I have both the ILBE II and the ILBE Recon II. If you would like I can post a video on Recon. Both packs have their uses and advantages. I love the packs and if you can find them in good shape, and can afford it, go for it. The recon holds more of course and I find the Assault Recon that comes with it, very useful. I also have the medical insert which holds an incredible amount of small gear. I'm still tuning the recon configuration for the best weight/center of gravity ratio.
Not seeing this on Ebay anywhere. What did you pay for it? Do you know if this is close to 4000 ci of storage space? Im thinking about getting one of these rather than the Kelty but the Kelty is only $120
wow... yeah its a great pack...but its not so great when you have to carry it for a 4 mile hike and have a lot of stuff in it. Other than that its a great Main pack.
I did over 4 miles last weekend 8-7-10 on the FT "Florida Trail" in 95 degree heat carrying 50lbs of camping gear including 3ltr of water with no issues. My buddy tried it on and said it was much more comfortable than his Kelty. You may need to adjust how you load your pack "weight on top" and how much weight you let ride on your hips.
@cheeriomartinez Luckily you wouldn't have to carry so much going on a backpacking trip, plus you could just carry a .22 instead of an M4...That should cut down on weight quite alot!
Nice! I have a MOLLE II large ruck that I use as a bug out bag. That ILBE pack looks really nice. I may have to keep my eye out for one. Those long pockets on the side look like they would be great for a tripod. My love of photography and military gear just might convince me to get an ILBE.
I have the same head lamp you do. Although, on mine the red LED's come on last. Is your's some sort of military/tactical version? Aside from the order the LED's light up, your's looks identical to mine.
I have 2 of these lights and only 1 of them light red first... which I like so it doesn't blind your night vision before you get to red. I will look a little closer to see if I can find a model number or a reason behind this anomaly.
I wish they made this in other colors!!! The OEM is Arc'teryx but their civillian equivalent is A: Expensive! B: Doesn't have the sweet thru-pockets on the side where you put your chair. Just can't do the Marine woodland digital being of another branch and all...
This is a great pack. I have one with the assault pack. But it's not for general hiking. Maybe not even for a bug out bag (BOB). Here's why: weight. It's 8.4 lbs. Add a 3L water bladder (6.6 lbs). That's 15 lbs before you pack it! And roger... For general hiking I went with an Osprey Atmos 65 (3.8 lbs). The GEN II ILBE IS rugged, however, and there's the pay-off. It boils down to what your back and legs can handle. Don't let the cool factor blind you to other options.
Hey brother, us jarines call it an ill bee pack to save time instead of spelling out the acronym. lol. much love. every marine issued this pack should see this vid.
my daughter won a contest with Ospray writting about her best hike, the prize was the Ospray 110. its a 6,700c cu. pack looks simillar to this pack. it's super lite and I carried 85lbs on a 5 day hike and the designed support kept me going comfortably. glad she won it though, it's over the $500 mark, yikes!
The current issue usmc main pack is very nice. I used this pack when I was in the Marine Corps infantry 2004-2008. In 2004recruits in boot camp still had to use alice packs and they absolutely suck. There not big enough and they hurt. The current molle pack is comfortable and very strong. I was issued one when I got to the fleet. I used it for three years on hikes, training ops, and two deployments to Iraq. It went through a lot of abuse from use and being strapped on an LAV but it held up great
I found a VERY used one with no hip belt and lid for 80 bucks. I have a belt from another pack that should work, the straps are really worn, but hey, it was 80 bucks. Ill have too spend some time fixing it up.
I see this sitting on ebay for a really low price, but its just the actual ruck not the frame. Its missing the lid. Do you think the frame would be impossible to find?
I recommend finding a complete pack. Finding the parts to piece it together are hell to find. Lids are usually $30-50 and the Belt is usually $30-50 on eBay.
If you find one for $200 buy it, that is cheap for this pack. Like new Gen. II packs as shown in the video can go for $400+. You are right though, the way this pack is constructed it will last a long time and the parts that might give such as a buckle can easily be replaced. I have learned when buying camping gear buy quality. I would not cut corners on a pack, the last thing you want to happen when you are in the mountains is the bottom of your B.O.B blowing out.
ya but i just can't go out and spend 200 buck$ for a back pack. i am thinking of getting one. but not any time soon. i can get em at some military surplus for like 70 or 100. there is one i want on ebay called a usmc molle 3 day pack. looks realy good
If you have not done so, take a look at my video of the CFP-90. It is a quality pack and I just got a few of those in. Send me an email if you are interested.
beautiful pack but way too rich..im working on altering my cfp 90 ruck into external frame...i need a good frame and ill go from there. not for lashing as mentioned because no need with molle.. i prefer the ability to shift weight .. but would like a single frame i can use to lash multiple rucks on.
We have been to the moon since the invention of the Alice Pack. You are looking at a $200 price difference but it does not compare. The Alice pack is so outdated. Technology has changed since then. You will NOT get the comfort you want with an Alice Pack like you will get with ILBE. Also the ILBE pack allows you to accessorize/ customize. Some people like external for lashing capabilities but the ILBE has MOLLE webbing all over for that. It is the last pack you will ever need.
shes a beauty!! Semper Fi!!! my Marine recruiter tol me if i get 6 referrals (which is almost impossible) he would give me a backpack like this one but smaller. lol
It is a great pack as you can read even from the comments below of people who have bought from me. I sold through the ones I had available but hope to get more in soon. Best to try eBay if you want to buy one now. It is called the ILBE made by Propper/ Arc'teryx. There is also a ILBE Recon which is similar. I would only recommend buying the Gen II which is the one with tan color padding because it will be newer and less damaged, also one that is complete with lid and waist belt.
I registered to your site however, it needs to be updated. Will you eventually show what radio you use Degen 1103 Or u keep in your YAESU FT-817ND . Or What is in the Top. I noticed that Climbing rope is expensive 150+ Where did you get your's? I believe you need to show on your site what you carry in the bag. the bottom of it and the top. Food and Cloth es in the bottom and Fleese and radio in the top. Please give more detail. Your website Link's sometimes are not working. Great !!
Nice review, great pack. I have the same one. Could you show me how you attach the lid and the radio pouch to the pack? Also, if you end up getting the assault pack it would be good to see how it attaches to the main pack too. Cheers.
Haha, no I was joking about the mountains here in FL. The highest point in the whole state is only 345 feet above sea level. I like to hike in and go camping along several of the crystal clear water springs that are here in FL. Good fishing and a clean water source.
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't had the chance to check out the patrol pack for the ILBE. If I get one I will be sure to do a review. This is a great pack, you will love it. Email me when you are ready to get one.
This pack is awesome. The one I got looks brand new after I cleaned it up (not that it looked bad before). As other's have said, I wouldn't think twice about ordering from beehiking again. I'll be using it in a week for a trip so I'll see how it stands up to the pack I used two weeks ago.
Hello saspgmer, I have a couple more of these packs available. Send me an email and I can link you to a good pack that is complete with waist belt and lid. As you can see below showdown55 was a satisfied customer. Speak with you soon.
i got this pack because of this video. i have yet to go backpacking/camping with it but i have loaded it with all my gear and it is soooo comfortable. everything is hi quality on it from the stitching to the hardware. i thought the pack was gonna be rad when i got it but it is so much better than i expected. beehiking, thank you for your help and you do excellent business. anyone thinking about doing business with beehiking shouldnt think twice.
Thanks for the video...I just bought one today and this video was a huge factor in my decision. I've heard good things about this pack, I can't wait to try it
You picked a really good pack, it was like new. Thank You for your business, I shipped it the same day and will email you the tracking numbers. Enjoy!
The Main Pack is 4500 cubic inches, but the lid adds about another 300-400. Adding sustainment pouches to each side would give you another 1000 cubic inches.
Those packs are fucking straight dildos. Broken belts, wear out quickly, bad zippers etc. I wish I didn't have to use 'em

The IBLE was designed BY Arc'teryx and manufactured by Propper

Just got one at the local Army-Navy store. Don't think the guy knew what he had. Sold it to me for $50. Awesome backpack!

that is a very nice rucksack. the best the USMC has ever had
dubbys 2 years ago
The current issue usmc main pack is very nice. I used this pack when I was in the Marine Corps infantry 2004-2008. In 2004recruits in boot camp still had to use alice packs and they absolutely suck. There not big enough and they hurt. The current molle pack is comfortable and very strong. I was issued one when I got to the fleet. I used it for three years on hikes, training ops, and two deployments to Iraq. It went through a lot of abuse from use and being strapped on an LAV but it held up great

looks similar to my arc'teryx tango pack..

I found a VERY used one with no hip belt and lid for 80 bucks. I have a belt from another pack that should work, the straps are really worn, but hey, it was 80 bucks. Ill have too spend some time fixing it up.
JustinBaker2567 2 years ago
Perhaps....but i imagine a good number of these werent stolen. Plus how would this guy possibly know if it was stolen?
JustinBaker2567 2 years ago
I see this sitting on ebay for a really low price, but its just the actual ruck not the frame. Its missing the lid. Do you think the frame would be impossible to find?
JustinBaker2567 2 years ago
I recommend finding a complete pack. Finding the parts to piece it together are hell to find. Lids are usually $30-50 and the Belt is usually $30-50 on eBay.
BeeHiking 2 years ago
these things are expensive! like 200 bucks on ebay! but i guess it could be worth it grant it they will last a very long time and can cary alot
tokorev747777 2 years ago
If you find one for $200 buy it, that is cheap for this pack. Like new Gen. II packs as shown in the video can go for $400+. You are right though, the way this pack is constructed it will last a long time and the parts that might give such as a buckle can easily be replaced. I have learned when buying camping gear buy quality. I would not cut corners on a pack, the last thing you want to happen when you are in the mountains is the bottom of your B.O.B blowing out.
BeeHiking 2 years ago
ya but i just can't go out and spend 200 buck$ for a back pack. i am thinking of getting one. but not any time soon. i can get em at some military surplus for like 70 or 100. there is one i want on ebay called a usmc molle 3 day pack. looks realy good
tokorev747777 2 years ago
If you have not done so, take a look at my video of the CFP-90. It is a quality pack and I just got a few of those in. Send me an email if you are interested.
BeeHiking 2 years ago
im not being rude or anything but thats fine. i think my mom got it for me for christmas. and what i want to use it for its good enough
tokorev747777 2 years ago
beautiful pack but way too rich..im working on altering my cfp 90 ruck into external frame...i need a good frame and ill go from there. not for lashing as mentioned because no need with molle.. i prefer the ability to shift weight .. but would like a single frame i can use to lash multiple rucks on.
TheK0nrad 2 years ago
I just got more "like new" CFP-90 packs that include the patrol pack instock for anyone who is looking for one.

Great pack and great review! I have been wanting one of those for awhile now just have not been able to get the xtra money yet.

how do these compare to the large alice packs?
jlott00 2 years ago
We have been to the moon since the invention of the Alice Pack. You are looking at a $200 price difference but it does not compare. The Alice pack is so outdated. Technology has changed since then. You will NOT get the comfort you want with an Alice Pack like you will get with ILBE. Also the ILBE pack allows you to accessorize/ customize. Some people like external for lashing capabilities but the ILBE has MOLLE webbing all over for that. It is the last pack you will ever need.

shes a beauty!! Semper Fi!!! my Marine recruiter tol me if i get 6 referrals (which is almost impossible) he would give me a backpack like this one but smaller. lol
dodgerfan101562 2 years ago
It's a fantastic pack. You can carry a small child in it and won't feel the weight. Very nice clip- thanks.
azuremain 2 years ago
they did it too light. Useless in woodland terrain. They need to make it with darker olive stripes.

its worked well for me so far. how long have you used this pack for?
mmafan1775 2 years ago
that is a awsome pack. What is the name of it and where can i get one?
Vincefishing4ever 2 years ago
It is a great pack as you can read even from the comments below of people who have bought from me. I sold through the ones I had available but hope to get more in soon. Best to try eBay if you want to buy one now. It is called the ILBE made by Propper/ Arc'teryx. There is also a ILBE Recon which is similar. I would only recommend buying the Gen II which is the one with tan color padding because it will be newer and less damaged, also one that is complete with lid and waist belt.

Do you have the assault pack?
ihateforigners 2 years ago

Cheers.

Where did youget the fleese sleeping bag at?
saspgmer 2 years ago
It is just a full size bed fleece blanket. You can fine them anywhere but I bought mine at an outlet store called Ross.
BeeHiking 2 years ago
Thanks! Did you go to Stone Mountain in FL or GA. Where do you go in FL
saspgmer 2 years ago
Haha, no I was joking about the mountains here in FL. The highest point in the whole state is only 345 feet above sea level. I like to hike in and go camping along several of the crystal clear water springs that are here in FL. Good fishing and a clean water source.

thefoxtrot562 2 years ago
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't had the chance to check out the patrol pack for the ILBE. If I get one I will be sure to do a review. This is a great pack, you will love it. Email me when you are ready to get one.

This pack is awesome. The one I got looks brand new after I cleaned it up (not that it looked bad before). As other's have said, I wouldn't think twice about ordering from beehiking again. I'll be using it in a week for a trip so I'll see how it stands up to the pack I used two weeks ago.

how many cubic in is this pack?
stillrob420 2 years ago
The Main Pack is 4500 cubic inches, but the lid adds about another 300-400. Adding sustainment pouches to each side would give you another 1000 cubic inches.
