refugee's village had been massacred I was simultaneously sad and enraged. I killed Mado really hard for that.
@tofraser I was waiting for you to use the fruit of lime to unpetrify yourself. Lol classic game. Apparently they used you for the game cover too, with one of those plastic shields with a dragon on it. I had one of those as a kid. The game had a great plot and other advanced features like items to recharge magic and health without expending limitations, once obtained anyway.
You have to take into consideration when this was made. Yes, it's a little cheesy, but so were most things in the 80's. Nevertheless, I loved playing this game as a kid, even more than Zelda. It had a certain uniqueness to it and made me afraid of 1997 - The "END DAY." I remember that year fondly. lol
@phubans No lies. I am guessing I was 15 because I don't think I had my driver's license yet. I remember having to be taken to the martial arts studio to get sword training, and I got my license when I was 16... anyway, you don't have to believe that's me. I'm sure neither of us will lose sleep over it.
@CaptainJeanLPicard don't act anymore. When I was younger I was in a number of TV commercials and industrial videos (in Silicon Valley). I moved behind the camera and started doing video editing, digital media, etc.
You know, in the game, if you get stoned while using your sword, it stays in your hand, outstretched. It will damage enemies even still: fun to use against the snake monsters in the waterfall cave. :)
One of the worst video game commercials ever, but Crystalis is one of the top 5 games on the NES! Completely crushes the original LOZ (although I love that too), and was years ahead of its time.
Wow, it's cool to see this out there. I'm the guy in the commercia ... the one with the sword. It was a fun production. I actually receivefew weekends of martial arts sword training! Anyway, slam it all you want. I had fun making it, got paid and I got a free game system and Crystalis (which I loved!).
In truth, I would manifest anew every time someone pressed the Power button or pressed Reset. Even now, I am nothing more than bits and bytes appearing for your amusement. Just don't tell my wife that.
@tofraser Hmm, either you're lying about being the actor in this commercial or you're lying about you're age in your profile. If you're 35 now then you would have only been 15 when this commercial was made, and this guy looks a bit older than 15.
@tofraser Crystalis is awesome, but this commercial SUCKS. Even so, if you really are the actor in the commercial, that's pretty awesome. Did you get to keep any of the props from the commercial? Crap or not this commercial is a classic part of NES history and to be apart of it is pretty impressive.
@Palmerifics I'm not sure what happened to the props. I would have to ask my Dad (the director) what happened to the creatures, but I didn't get to keep anything from the shoot. It's really interesting to see all the comments about how bad (or good) this commercial is. It's being see out of its time, so it's hard to compare it ... but I believe it was an award-winning commercial back in the day.
@tofraser Whoa your dad was the director? Now I feel like a total jerk for saying the commercial sucked, but I guess I just feel like it didn't have a whole lot to do with Crystalis. It actually reminds me of the "HyperReality" Dragon Strike VHS (do a youtube search for "Board James: DragonStrike - Cinemassacre " if you want to see a review on it) and it was pretty unique for its time too, so it is pretty neat in a way. If you do find any of the props, you should upload some pics online :D
They are cheezy, but this was back when power rangers were cool, so cheezy graphics and commercial were ok. (but really... power rangers need to upgrade some their effects...)
I'm going to sum up this commercial - crappy commercial; great game. That's all I got to say, since there was really nothing good to say about this commercial. Nintendo really did a poor job in advertising this game. Why else would Crystalis be unknown to so many? Reply, so I can find out what you all think about my comment?
You're statement about the advertising is very true but, also remember that the rpg following was nothing like it is today. Those of us lucky enough to have played this game as most likely children had a nice road paved for some great rpg classics to follow.
Agreed on all points. The only thing remotely redeemable about this add was the attempt at humor at the end, It was just a little understated. And what was with the announcers voice?!! Loved the game I played through it so many times I found the teleport glitch (with the help of my little sis) by accident.
Dude! I never saw this commercial back in 1990, but loved this game. Market appeal in this commercial was lacking though. Glad the game's popularity made up for it.
SNK FTW i think they should have him in a fighting game
