Schelling, among others, attaches to human existence a fundamental, inescapable sadness. This sombre ground must, indeed, be the basis of all perception, of every mental process. Thought is strictly inseparable from a “profound, indestructible melancholy. I would extend this to all animal life, therefore.

@cheradinine8 I've always thought the same, what he actually does is showing respect for the guitar, e.j Bream starts playing Capricho Arabe with very strong vibratos in one string, people love that but it is impossible to do it in the chords so he breaks the piece, this is what JW almost never does he prefectly knows the limits of the guitar, this is a personal opinion but I think it's true.
@ScouseFolky I've always thought the same, what he actually does is showing respect for the guitar, e.j Bream starts playing Capricho Arabe with very strong vibratos in one string, people love that but it is impossible to do it in the chords that are clearly refering to the initial vibratos so he breaks the piece, this is what JW almost never does he perfectly knows the limits of the guitar, this is a personal opinion but I think it's true.
I think this bickering about who plays it faster, with more emotion, harder fingerings etc etc is absolutely ridiculous. The point is, Barrios COMPOSED this, everyone else, even the great players are coming in second place. Quit debating over things that are not important. Enjoy the music.
I'm sure they already enjoy the music. And that they enjoy discussing who they think is the most talented player. That may be the point for you, but not for them. Don't try to impose your own opinion on others as if they are fact.
no way as good as the way Barrios plays it in his recording! He drops a lot of things - full chord the fast run in mvt 2 etc and Barrios plays the 3rd faster
SU GUITARRA ESTÁ OCHO HERTZIOS POR DEBAJO DE LA AFINACIÓN NORMAL, Y EL SONIDO QUE EMANA DE ELLA ES ÚNICO E IRREPETIBLE... REALMENTE NO HE ESCUCHADO UN TIMBRE MÁS PERFECTO QUE EL DE ESA GUITARRA.
@paygi110709 DO YOU CONSIDER THIS A PIECE SUITABLE FOR A BEGINNER? THERE SO MANY NUANCES AND MID RYTHM RUBATO, I WOULD HARDLY CALL THIS EASY ,ESPECIALLY TO PLAY IT CORRECTLY ! TRY THE SOR STUDIES. I DOUBT YOU CAN EVEN CALL THEM EASY!
@mrboppman1 I consider myself an intermediate gutarist and it took me 4 days to get most of the piece down and about a week and a half to get it memorized. It then took me a month to finalize the way I was going to recite it in concert. I got straight tens throughout the board at the recital out of eight judges. Its not a difficult song to learn, at least for some, the difficult part is conveying the flowing emotion throughout the three movements. Once you understand the emotion ure good to go.
not my favorite guitarist. I barely hear much phrasing or artistry in use of tone colors or emotion. It seems almost mechanical and robotic throughout most of it. I guess people like dry emotionless interpretations.
That's just so phenomenal!! The guitar becomes the most beautiful instrument in the world when in the hands of a master musician who is playing an epic piece by one of the greatest composers in history!!
personally, I think lot of people play the third movement way to fast. I like how Williams takes his time a little, not lagging, but not rushing either. he takes the time to get everything right and smooth.
@Thuringen I agree, most players play it too fast trying to show their technique, Williams doesn't destroy one the guitar masterpieces just to amaze the audience, he wants to touch them musically
arg .. haha i wanted to see how he was going to finger the harmonics at the end of the preludio but of course as irony would have it thats when the camera man decides to move...
I don't get it. Ana Vidovic's version is slightly different at points from this, which is slightly different from the sheet music i have... Are there different versions of this piece? Which one is the original?
@MikeyIV Okay, i have the answer to your question and its 100% true facts, for i have studied this song for a long time. There are 2 different ways you can play this song. Barrios made 2 versions of the song basically, but its only changed very slightly. The average joe who doesn't play music will not even notice. There is John Williams version, and there's Berta Rojas version. Ana Vidovic changes it herself, i dont know why, maybe she thinks it sounds better. This is all accurate, trust me
@MikeyIV you can give the interpretation you want to your music, they interpretate this piece different. There would be no grace to be guitarrist if everything is played the same xD

What John Williams said of Agustin Barrios (the composer of this piece): "As a guitarist/composer, Barrios is the best of the lot, regardless of era. His music is better formed, it's more poetic, it's more everything! And it's more of all those things in a timeless way."
its a shame that the quality of the video is not better, the clarity and crispness of williams technique is just perfect and to watch it close up is truly breathtaking, clean , very clean, thanks for this post
Excelente maestro.
@Muso8787 sorry, must have been my brother using the account, he can´t appreciate any music or video unless it´s the best and most expensive quallity...
@Muso8787 I actually enjoy the older videos more, makes you appreciate the music more. The fact that it will never be done again, especially when Williams was at his best. Dont underestimate the importance of these videos.
Neat but I prefer Shin Ichi Fukuda perhaps is something very subjective I always believed Williams prioritize technique over the heart and the result is not my favorite
Around one minute out it's like he's putting the beat on the second eight in every bar. It's really interesting, but right now I'm put off. I'll try it later today.
Wel done indeed. All notes sound good and on time. Music tough should be more than 'precision', it must grab your feelings, it should be emotion. I prefer Fernando Cordas.
Unless my ears are tricking me this is about quarter tone to low, prob caused by low speed of original video recording perhaps? So it would have MARGINALLY quicker in real life.
Please Watch

@eyesbleeding

@pedskon Of course the video is poor quality, its an old video.
Does that mean we should destroy all old records, cassettes, books and artefacts because the message isn't conveyed with 100% clarity?

@Muso8787 sorry, must have been my brother using the account, he can´t appreciate any music or video unless it´s the best and most expensive quallity...
pedskon 1 year ago
@Muso8787 I actually enjoy the older videos more, makes you appreciate the music more. The fact that it will never be done again, especially when Williams was at his best. Dont underestimate the importance of these videos.

@ditman333 Thats the exact point that I was making. I was being sarcastic to a comment that was complaining about the sound quality.
Sorry I thought that was obvious...

@Muso8787 yeah i know, i just thought that my comment fit well with yours =)

Neat but I prefer Shin Ichi Fukuda perhaps is something very subjective I always believed Williams prioritize technique over the heart and the result is not my favorite

Around one minute out it's like he's putting the beat on the second eight in every bar. It's really interesting, but right now I'm put off. I'll try it later today.

Wel done indeed. All notes sound good and on time. Music tough should be more than 'precision', it must grab your feelings, it should be emotion. I prefer Fernando Cordas.
zegmeiets 1 year ago
I don't think there is a more precise player than Sir John Williams. I might like this version better than Ana Vidovic's.

Unless my ears are tricking me this is about quarter tone to low, prob caused by low speed of original video recording perhaps? So it would have MARGINALLY quicker in real life.
