What size mouth piece would this be played on? I'm playing on a Webster and Giddings TZ 103 for my Bach 42 BO and was just wondering how much of an adjustment that would be.
@marochima2 This one is a Haag (built by Franz Monschau) which you can buy directly from the company in Switzerland. There are a number of other places to get one too...try Hornguys for starters, they have a couple variants..some manufacturers are: Lätsch, Meinl, NIrschl, G & P and Amati...Sam Gnagey builds one that is about $6-7000 if I remember correctly. Search online, there's a lot of info out there! Good Luck!
Weren't these the actual ophecleide that was scored in the orchestra during the Romantic period? No joke on the selling the kidney to purchase one, they are very rare? Is the one you're playing pitched in B flat, F, or CC?
Which is harder to get? An awesome Cimbasso, or an awesome beard?
ritup 1 month ago
@ritup Well, a beard just requires you to not shave, and it's for free...a cimbasso on the other hand...

@TheTromboneKing13 This G & W mouthpiece is based on their Churada MP, but it's been modified to work better for me...

@marochima2 They cost anywhere from $1200 to $10,000. The Cerveny CVT 576 4C is a pretty good entry-level Cimbasso, for 1598 Euros.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have always wanted to see a cimbasso in action.
Cimbassos need to be put back in production.

@normharris This on is in F. As far as the nomenclature goes, that seems to be a bit of a quagmire, he he...
The modern cimbassi aren't rare, just expensive, at least the good ones...
cimbassonista 1 year ago
@normharris The ophicleide is keyed-brass instrument- no relation. Most ophicleides are in Bb. Cimbassi are in F.

If I saw that bell pointing at me, I would duck and cover my head!!!
Actually, it sounds very mellow and soulful. Still looks scary.

@PaulBlichmann He he, I think the angle makes it look bigger than it really is...

@PaulBlichmann It does have a bit of a flame thrower look to it though...

Ok, I never heard of a cimbasso... but then learning more about music is one of the main reasons I like YouTube.
