Interesting. Barbi Benton with Hugh Hefner. 1967? I wonder if this is the same time as when the Cowsills did their performance of 'Where Is Love? and 'Two By Two'? I think so.
i agree that this is a great song, but what's up with that lame fake party? Especially the blond in the yellow/green dress. Seems like she can't grasp rhythm because all her resources are tied up in trying to figure out what everyone else is doing so she can do the same.....and what's up with the clapping/cheering at 1:45??? If i'm not mistaken that's the "when do we get paid?" clap.
Just recently heard it again on the movie "Seven Girlfriends" starring Tim Daly from "Wings" 1990-97 TV sitcom. Great song - made me want to Google it; found this & other Brenton Wood videos on the website.
This film was from the night time series, Playboy After Dark. At 2:05 you can see Hugh Hefner in the lower left corner, and the girl in the burgundy outfit on the right of the screen is Barbi Benton. Great song, boring series.
Although Playboy After Dark had some terrific 1960's music artists play on it in the I think I remember two and half years it was on TV (it was sort of the "Saturday Night Live" for musicians of it's time period, 1967 to 1969). Besides Brenton Wood, I know that at least Iron Butterfly ("In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida") & Strawberry Alarm Clock ("Incense & Peppermints") appeared on the show.
You're right. PAD did showcase some good musical performers. People like Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr. and Linda Ronstadt, along with those you've mentioned. I just remember that Hugh Hefner was no Johnny Carson when it came to interviewing guests.
I saw him in concert recently... it was kinda heart breaking... his words are so moving and special... but he started singing other people's songs... I was like "NO! Brenton don't give up on your music"
hell yeah - brenton just rocked a concert in the park for free out here in east la (el monte to be exact homie!) Had all cholos y cholas on the dance floor. haha the funniest thing is watchin all the white dudes in the playboy club trying to keep tempo.
"I'm Your Puppet" is from James and Bobby Purify, not from Brenton Wood. Brenton Wood though was still one of those very rare and underappreciated soul artist. But yes, thank you for this video.
