  • Love the way this is produced. :)

  • A very good video, well thought out and perfectly executed

  • You forgot for short "Woman intuition" mining, ill be showing this in a video soon so you can know what i mean.

  • you just got another subsriber :)

  • Great vid

  • but, how can you see on what level you are?

  • Comment removed

  • Just as good as the wiki, but more fun to watch.

  • Excellent graphical representations :)

  • How do u record that going down? And how do u make it smooth like that?

  • @jamie1051 The record using FRAPS, its a 35 dollar program that is VERY useful when recording applications on your computer. The used MCedit to cut out the side of the world so that we could see what they were doing, they could literally fall at anytime unless that created a glass barrier that is has been edited in the texture package to be invisible which many Minecraft video producers do.

  • also dont forget that they may have a better computer then you and also may record on a server dedicated to good video output. (max fps*)

  • @jamie1051 What @simplydoz said is pretty spot on. Except, we didn't make the glass texture invisible. In fact, you can see it in the video. We used Zombe's flymod(allows you to fly) for some scenes. It wasn't smooth enough for the ore scene though, so we made a big waterfall from the top of the world. I just poked my head out, and recorded while falling down.

  • @TheHalfBakes do i need to press F3 to see what level am at?

  • @yusefjalali Well yes and no. It is the easiest way to press F3. Press F3 look where it says X, Y and Z the first two numbers next to y is the level your head is at. Another way of finding it out is going to bedrock. The last layer of bedrock is 5. The layer above that, 6 has no bedrock. Just find 6 and count up. Hope this helped! :P

  • Excellent video with great tips for minecraft newbies. Love the way this was filmed. :D

  • What does she say at 3:52?! Sorry, American and having difficulty with the dialect.

  • @clarkni05 "Slimes can be found below level 16 in larger caverns" Sorry, that bit was a bit off.

  • @TheHalfBakes No worries! You're beautiful! Great post

  • @TheHalfBakes It's ok! You guys are doing a awsome job. You help the new players a lot. :)

  • @clarkni05 its_cos_your_american

  • u deserv a sub =3

  • Adorable and informative :D I've been playing for months and I actually learned a thing or two. Thanks!

  • with the dirt your right its just that t6he dirt covers blocks that could be ore just to let you kno

  • FOR SCIENCE!

  • What's the name of the background song?

  • Thank you for the information! I was shaft mining (starting at the 5th bed rock layer so layers 6/7) And I was on my 15th shaft maybe and hit lava through the roof! So glad I was expecting it at some point, I reacted quickly and blocked it off. But boy am I afraid to mine again lol

  • @SubTeufel herobrine doesn't exist. Notch has said it. The guy that made the idea of herobrine said it. He. Isn't. Real

  • I <3 the Walrus. :D

  • i would subscibe but i hate these (...) uploaded new video or commented on someones video keep this up realy i wasnt very lisening that you talked but it sounded smart keep it up perfect for new players

  • Very nice video, but I must correct you on one thing. Strip mining refers to a form of surface mining, similar to quarries. The kind of mining you were showing is called branch mining.

  • when I explore caverns, I put my torches on the left cavernwall so I don't get lost

If I want to go deeper down in my cavern I only take routes that have torches on the left side.

but still I get lost couse of all dead ends

  • This is amazing, good work!

  • Science!

  • This is epic for new players.

  • This is an awesome video! Thanks for taking time to make it!

  • Totally wonderful. Anyone new to minecraft can learn in a few minutes what most take weeks to learn. The way the video is made, with the side and top down views, and the carefully set up examples (dungeon, cave drop, lava, for example) is very informative and easy to understand.

Respect to you all. Instant like and favourite.

  • This was so hypnotic, I could watch it all day

  • This is like the most overview of how to mine and pure data of minecraft thanks :D

  • Oh come on, english isn't even my main language so I have trouble understanding fast speakers, but I perfectly understood theese guys! Good job, I always watch your episodes with interest!

  • That isn't strip mining, that's branch mining, strip mining and quarry mining are the same thing.

  • Can we get a link to these skins?

  • @BinaryAlephNull

According to your atrocious grammar, you are the uneducated one. Oh, and having an accent is no excuse for mumbling.

  • who the hell spiral mines, that is probabally the most ineffient technique ever, branch mining is the best, no question about it

  • nice you got Jamie from Mythbusters to guest in the outro

  • I liked it, and could understand it. Upvote!

  • 2:55 guy falls out of spiral mine

  • i'm to high for this... i forgot every word those klds just said. but i know this much. it was quite interesting.

  • Damn good video, thumbs up & favorited

  • Oh and by the way, I love the skins you use! Was that a builder's hard hat skin on the quarry part?

  • You haters out there, the Half Blakes are quite new at commentating on YouTube relatively. They're improving a lot, and their quality has vastly improved since their aweosome 404 challenge. This is an incredibly informative series that's going to go on for quite a long time!

If you leave constructive criticism instead of moaning about their "mumbling" (which you haters are probably terrible at talking to a mic anyways), they can learn and improve.

  • @TigranTheMetz How's this not constructive criticism: "I found the video informative, but I couldn't understand most of what was said. I had to read the transcript. Improve on that." I complained about the mumbling and it was still constructive because hopefully if they take my advice into account their videos will improve.

Secondly "which you haters are probably terrible at talking to a mic anyways" is an ad hominem fallacy. Food critics don't need to know how to cook to critique food.

  • @alllucky7s I haven't mentioned you in any of my comments, so I don't understand how my comment relates to you. That is constructive criticism you've mentioned, I'm talking about the dumbasses who say "NERDS" and "I CAN'T UNDERSTAND U!!11! SHIT ACCENT!".

  • I don't think the main problem is enunciation at all. If you can't understand the Half Bakes and Nosi, you're obviously slow enough to have no clue what a foreign accent is. A problem would be just making some of the speaking a bit more enthusiastic and hiding the script-reading.

Try and make it sound organic as you talk (I'm no expert in practice - I'm terrible at doing that, but you guys have talent - and it is easier said than done, but have a go). Maybe those haters will shut up.

  • @TigranTheMetz not everyone speak English as our main language, making it harder for us to understand accents, especially ones as strong as theirs. It doesn't have anything to do with "being slow".

Just as we can understand the accents in out own language easily but people that have learnt it by hand can't.

  • Very well made video! Extremely useful! Thanks.

  • Great Commentary! Enjoyed digging for ya :D

  • The orator/teacher is responsible for the comprehension of the audience. If half of the audience is having trouble understanding, it is not the audience's issue; it is the speaker's problem.

In about 2nd grade, I had an issue where saliva would build up in my mouth, and while reading aloud or speaking, I would constantly slurp and I would begin to mumble. Instead of blaming others for not understanding my speech, my teachers helped me to correct the issue.

    Constructive criticism is important.

  • @bludwine2309 An accent isn't a speech problem.

  • @IKillBabyKittensLOL

You're making my point for me. It is not their accent that people are having trouble with. It is their enunciation. People of all backgrounds with all different languages can have this issue. Hiding the issue behind a veil of protectionism does nothing to help them become better "conveyors of information." Do not patronize these people. If there are ways that they can better convey their message, at least give them the benefit of the doubt that they would like to hear it.

  • Great guide, but it was kinda hard to understand what you were saying

  • For anyone who is having difficulty understanding this(and isn't being a total ass about it) somebody made a transcript on Reddit. I don't have time to turn it into subtitles until next week though(maybe sooner?)

Thanks to everyone who left a positive or constructive comment!

  • You should subtitle this.

  • Please enunciate better. It's not the accent, it's mumbling. Nice filming though!

  • The Northern Irish accent is fantastic. I'd even say that it out-cools my Manchester accent :-)

Things would soon get boring if we all sounded the same, and a little workout for the ears and concentration every now and then can only be a good thing.

  • @thedaveleather Yo wait a second there, Macunican accent is up there with the Northern Irish accent :P

  • great video, wonderful imagery, good information, but please get better mics, it irritates me SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much

  • Sounded like you guys were doing a school project. I get that it was scripted, but a bit more enthusiasm...

  • You're using the term "strip mining" incorrectly.

  • Nice use of voxel

  • Unlike many people, I can perfectly understand you guys. However, there is one key piece of information you have missed. It is to be noted that Slimes do spawn at level 16 or lower, but they can only spawn in certain chunks. Those chunks are determined when the world is first created.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm American and I can understand exactly what they say.

  • Actually by placing a piston at 126 then a block at 127 upon activating said piston, the block will then travel into 128.

  • anyone else cringe at 1:50?

  • These comments need less yanks crying about accents. They were perfectly understandable.

  • @Bearsgoroar

Don't be obtuse. There are dialects and accents, and then there is mumbling. This is a case of the latter.

Your prejudice does not serve these young people in making them better communicators.

  • @TheHalfBakes When we were making the stairs all you could see was me at the front going fast :p @2:29

  • @CainFoool i was behind you

  • Very to-the-point and informative. Keep up the good work!

  • 2 girls and one boy ?

  • You do realise all these people are from North England? They don't sound like Londoners because they live nowhere near them.

I assume people in Texas speak the same as people in Manhattan? People in Manhattan speak the same as those in California? Oh, and obviously, Everyone in Canada ends their sentence with 'eh?'

North england was where the english language as we know it came to fruition, so really, it should be other people that need to 'get cocks out of their mouths'...

  • @AshRossy Actually their from Northern Ireland, sounds like Portrush or somewhere like that.

  • @RustRussell They're from Antrim. I live in Derry so I recognise and understand their accent very well.

  • @CainFoool I'm from Omagh so i also recognised and understand their accent, just had trouble pin pointing where exactly, close enough tho.

  • @RustRussell I know them. One guy is from Manchester, he's my best friend, so was kinda defending him >_< Yes, the other two have fairly strong Irish Accents.

  • @AshRossy Just for the record - IronFruit + Bethness are from Ireland! Sorry for my mistake!

  • First second of the video: "Hi, I'm Armpit"

  • Comment removed

  • PLEASE pick ONE person to narrate, and make sure they can actually speak properly.

  • Everytime the guy starts talking "Hokay, so this is the earth."

  • Good job. Girl's accent is cute

  • Really well put together! Great job. Very basic, but great for the beginner.

  • its not hard to understand you guys.

anyways, ive been playing minecraft since alpha and havent heard of spiral mining.

    im.a.failure.

  • I'd recognise that Norn Iron accent anywhere. Which part of Ireland are you from?

  • Awesome guys. Keep up the good work. I was able to understand the video just fine. Don't know what the problem is for the trolls. Oh wait... they're trolls. That's the problem. :) Don't feed the trolls!

  • I thought in the beginning they sounded like german scientists, making Minecraft into science :D

    Great and informative video!

  • excellent video. No trouble understanding you. Well thought through. Well scripted. Mostly well narrated. Great animations. I'll be linking this from our servers' forum to help the newbs.

  • This feels like a high school project. A really, REALLY well-animated and thought-out one, but... The mic quality and voices, geez. Not to mention the constant switching off of voices.

  • Nice effort and useful, but please, don't have really young kids narrating next time. They tend to have trouble enunciating, which this video shows. I would have rather just had text appear on screen.

  • @Linscape99 They're not young kids, they're teenagers. They run the channel. Leave constructive criticism and suggestions to make them improve. They can definitely improve, just watch the difference between their first video and the last one!

  • This is great! thanks for laying this out in such a simple manner. I will definitely point my noob friends at your video!

  • Understood them just fine, and really appreciate the info!

  • i <3 the Half Bakes & Nosi :D

BTW - to those of you who commented about their "enunciation" or the fact that you couldn't understand what they were saying: you are obviously uneducated. if, by now, you can't understand what someone who LIVES IN ANOTHER COUNTRY is saying; you need help. not the kind of help you'll find on the internet. more like the kind of help you may find in the bottom of a bottle of rum.

in conclusion, to quote a wise man: "now, go away, or i shall taunt you a second time."

  • Comment removed

  • @Zartyzzo pardon me - i appreciate your support, but i'm an American.

  • @BinaryAlephNull It's not the accent. It's the mumbling and lack of articulation.

  • @fugazijaw (this should be fun)

there was no mumbling. what you consider "mumbling" IS their accent(s). trust me. i've known enough people from "accross the pond", to know that this is a common 'problem' for the general American population. however - it is NOT mumbling. this is how they speak normally. if you can't understand it, that's your problem. they shouldn't have to do even MORE work to learn all of the ridiculous "intricacies" of the english language, simply to satisfy your idiocy.

  • @BinaryAlephNull no, they just speak like mouthbreathing idiots

  • @BinaryAlephNull Accent + shit mic = hard to understand. Additionally, I have some trouble understanding speech to start with. I have to ask people to repeat themselves more slowly *all the fucking time*, and that's with the same accent I have.

  • Svara på det här videoklippet... So me being born in a non-english speaking country means I am uneducated to you?

  • @DaDooode you obviously misunderstood what i said. that's not even remotely close to the point i was making. not once did i say "being born in a non-english speaking country" means you're uneducated. you are not one of the people i was calling uneducated. take another read. if you still think that's what i was saying, then i can't help you.

  • @BinaryAlephNull

Have you considered that those who can't understand are from different non-english countries as well?

  • I love this informative series, keep it up!

  • WOW NERDS HAHAHHAA

  • Really great video, you seemed to have this very well planned out.

You could work on your voice over work, don't make it sound like you're reading an essay.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Why doesn't ONE OF YOU TALK and the rest BE QUIET?

  • I loved this video! Great Work! ^^

  • You should leave 3 block between strip mining branches, it's more efficient because ores usually come in clusters so your chances of missing ores in the unseen center row of blocks is small.

  • @zango010 Exactly, "Usually." I've come across diamonds I wouldn't have found with 3 block apart shafts.

  • @NintenDangerous Yeah, there will be the occasional missed ore in the center row but the time saved by leaving 3 blocks between shafts instead of 2 more than makes up for it.

  • @NintenDangerous it's opportunity cost. You will only find very small deposits. Given an equal amount of time, you will ALWAYS have a greater chance of finding the most diamond ore by seperating your branches by 3 full stone blocks.

  • Enunciation is key

  • 2:55 2 people fall, lol

  • Missing some details, but visually looks awesome.

  • Just have to make one correction, ores are actually more common near veins. lava lakes, caves, dirt, and gravel are considered veins and therefore there is a higher chance of finding an ore connected to them.

  • @MuscarV2 it's not THAT hard to understand.

  • @MuscarV2 You don't know it's shit if you can't understand it. Be gentle with your criticism.

  • @yuppy64 I never said it's shit >_> using the word "shit" doesn't mean I think it's shit, like: This shit is damn good, doesn't mean I'm eating feces.

  • @MuscarV2 If you call something "shit" then you are expressing that you think it's "shit", and I never said anything about putting it in your mouth.

  • @yuppy64 what, only if said like: This is shit. Not like: This shit is good, love it. then I'm not implying that it's "shit".

  • @MuscarV2 Get a brain first.

  • Great stuff guys! 8-)

  • HA I'M URNFOOT

  • 2:30 Some crazy magic! Randomly appearing iron ore! Oops..

Another brilliant video you guys :D

  • Awesome :) Keep it going guys! Thanks for letting me join you for that!

  • Really good HalfBakes <3

  • (cont...) 'cos I've been playing for a year now so I do know a fair bit about the game.

  • Yet another hit! Great job gang, and thanks again for letting me help.

  • Was the intro supposed to mix in with the gameplay audio?

But anyways, definitely your best video so far - amazingly informative coupled with that ingenious camera view! I've never seen a cross-section in Minecraft done so well before, and it can visually convey the information to newer members. We should definitely try and get more famous Minecrafters to notice this video, as it is really helpful! Well done guys.

Also, if you need any tips & facts for your next video, hit me up (cont...)

  • ^_^

  • Correction top of the world is 128 if you count the ceiling block

  • @pingpong1138 It used to be you could place blocks at 128, but now only 127 to allow vertical pistons at the sky limit.

  • @DrPepper42yes Thanks, I was wondering why they didn't say 128.

  • @rillegas08 The wiki says 127 is the official "top of the world" You can not place blocks(except beds, I believe) above it.

  • @DrPepper42yes ya but they said the world goes to only 127 when it goes to 128 but you can build that high

  • 7th on my fave people :]

  • i love astra at the end

  • Yay! That was awesome! :D

  • nosi, you are correct, i am awesome

  • *hugs server* My Server :D

  • Thanks everyone who helped out, you're all awesome <3

  • hmm didnt appear until 1 hour after
