Hey Dulcimerist! The Variax guts I put in are what allows me to do the string tuning, including the bass string drop. For effects, I am using a Pod XT Live pedal straight into my computer to simultaneously record along with the video. That's why I never talk while the videos are on.
To understand what the Variax can do, go to the Line 6 website and look under Products/Guitars and you can find a ton of info. I am going to be building a lot of these transplants as I have been inundated with orders. Check out my Dulcicaster site for more info.
Thanks so much for the info! I like those Line 6 products a lot! My electro-acoustic McSpadden can do similar sounds, but I had to spend a small fortune in outboard effects. Having that Variax onboard your amazing instrument is really awesome!

What make and model octaver are you using for your bass? It sounds like you've got a Boss OC-3 in arpeggio mode... :)
