  • That car is STILL SEXY after 46 years !!!

  • Atomic batteries to power, terbines to speed

  • Mr. Barris needs to tell the entire story, as only part of what's he's saying is true. To come-up with this car he ALTERED an original Lincoln Futura concept car that was built by Lincoln designers in the 1950s. He did NOT design this car from the ground-up. The Barris contributions to the Futura eventually becoming the "Batmobile" were basically a bunch of tacky add-ons. The basic shape (including the dual "canopy" roof), remains all Futura.

  • best batmobile ever.

  • I found a remote control 1966 Batmobile at Toys R Us the other day. And Hallmark came out with a 1966 Batmobile ornament for 2011. Push a button on the trunk and it plays part of the theme song. Very cool.

  • i feel like the batmobile should be a blacked out veyron

  • that cop must have felt realy dumb when he found out that he arrested george barris of all people and being demoted to dog catcher, i bet in he future that cop will be more carefull if and when he gets back to being on patroll again.

  • Where car I buy this blu-ray movie?

  • "Holy Collectors Item, Batman! "

  • George Barris = king of kustomizers !

  • rollin on bf goodrich radial ta tires...the tire of superheroes

  • batmobile of 1966 is the most popular

  • As a kid growing up just out side of Detroit, I saw this and the Bat Cycle on a car hauler around 70 at the local Holiday Inn before the Detroit AutoRama and crawled up an sat in " dont' tell " LOL for a 12 year old it was to cool

  • Thank God for George Barris!

  • I have a modle of this batmobile.

  • ive seen that in real life up close

  • THE COOLEST CAR EVER MADE! I would give anything to have one!

  • The coolest car ever!

  • I saw this on the DVD. I laughed out loud when he said he was the designer and original builder of this car! He didn't design or build it. The car is a modified 1955 Lincoln Futura dream car. Look it up. Mr. Barris "modified" the Futura. He did not design it. As far as I know, the Futura was designed for Lincoln by Ghia in Italy. I do have to agree, however, that the original 1966 Batmobile is the best of them all. It's my overall favorite. Followed by the 1989 version and then the Tumbler.

  • I would give George Barris full credit, It was Fords prototype (futura) from the late 50's and the Ford design team deserves most credit as most of Georges creations look like crap. So he started with a winner and did a few mods I'll give him that.

  • @yumyumsashimi why U HATIN??????????.

  • @yumyumsashimi Not ALL of George Barris's Creations had Bombed-The MUNSTERS COACH and the MONKEES Pontiac was CLASSIC Designs,The MONKEES vehicle even got made into a **METAL BODY SCALE MODEL*, That which most plastic 1950-70's 1:24 and 1:25 Scale model cars like those big 1960's CADILLAC,was NEVER put into Production!

  • The real Batmobile. Now that's Americania.

  • the greatest car ever

  • @orochimaruluvrgrl95 1 of the MOST ORINGINAL ->THEME CUSTOMIZED<- CARS-2nd is ELVIRA's((@y@)) Car=)p and 3rd is that 1959 CADILLAC GHOSTBUSTERS HEARSE,Hey,Other than Dr.CREEP'S Hearse and that 1 used in PHANTASM, You dont see those Old Relic Hearses being RePresented & APPRECIATED more than this generations Fiberglassed Body Cadilac boats where the GM LABEL peels off and says TOY-O-TA !... Look up ED ROTH as a Car builder and see what comes up

  • oops - "1955 Lincoln Futura" - sorry!

  • Look up 1955 Ford Futura if you are interested in where this car came from before Barris did his "Magic" on it.

  • want more.........too short!

  • Now that is the real Batmobile. Big Thumb's up.

  • Love the Batmobile!!!!!!

  • Compared to the one in Batman and Batman Returns and the tumbler, this one is WEAK!!

  • Yeah, but who wants to drive a big ugly tank as a batmobile. I'd go with this or the Tim Burton batmobile.

  • @StarBoy62 totaly agree... dont know why this guy is so proud of it.. yes in his time this must have been a sweet ride, but come one, saying its still nr one?! forget it!

I wouold have the new batmobile over this one anyday! or a bugatti supersport <3

to bad i will never ever have the money to buy ether of 'em.

  • @StarBoy62 When GENERATION are U from? All TIME PERIODS have thier own Technological Characteristics, and THIS 1960's BATMOBLIE was DC comics verion of British JAMES BOND's cars like his ASTON MARTON...Respect the 1960 BATMOBILE more,as HUGE as this boat was,It was Packed full of Gadgets that Todays Rice Burner STAR-TREK FWD TECH WRECKS cant compete with--Somebody offer me choice between**ANY Wrecked Classic Huge car that still runs,Or win New Car,I choose That OLD RELIC V8LAND YACHT every time !

  • as cheesy as the whole '66 series was, that car is kinda cool

  • Knight Rider

    Yea Right , frickin Gay

  • This is an awesome car, but I think the most famous movie car is the Ecto-1.

  • @puppetmaster983 NO, I think the most famous is Knight Rider!!! K.I.T.T.

  • @JoachimDetlev KITT was only usedin 1 movie-KNIGHTRIDER 2000, now the ECTO-1,However, being a 1959 VINTAGE CADILLAC HEARSE that could carry 2-3X more gadgets than KITT could wish was able to >=) ECTO-1 was featured in 2 Movies,Had thier OWN Saturday morning Cartoon,And lasted Just a LeeTle bit longer than the KITT car displays at theme parks-Dont disMiss these old Movie car RELICS such as CHRISTINE until people actually dont care any more-THEN you can do what U want...

  • That car my friend is #1 in my book, #2 is the Tim burton Batmobile.

  • @HorrorAddict85 Yeah. They had replicas of both of those at B.J. this year. Ecto sold for 66 thou. and the batmobile... I forgot, but the thing had functioning machine guns.

  • i think Kitt is the msot famous, but probably i am wrong. And i love Batmobile.

  • That is funny. There are a great number of people who don't even know what "Kit" is. But you will probly get some folks fired up over what you wrote. LOL

  • As Will Rogers used to say "All I know is what I read in the papers." And what I've read seems to be confirmed by this video: George Barris often took credit for things he didn't do.

As others have said, this car was FIRST a Lincoln concept car, and quite similar to what it is now. He put on fins, doodads and painted it and called it his creation. Other times, Cali customizers would create a car, then Barris would slightly alter or paint it and say it was his.

Too bad, cuz he WAS talented

  • @TheCanine2 barris DID MORE THAN *just add Cadillac Fin BAT WINGS and whole lot of James Bond style gadgets* Since that Ford FUTURA had a BubbleTop Windshield, BARRIS did not BUILD the BATMOBILE**he MODIFIED THAT CAR,by removing the Bubble-tops see-thru top halfs and actually was able to Mold in a Bat-like front end into a Real car,Unlike that oversized batface mask used on the 1930?40's Oringinal COMICS Batman's car->GOOGLE SEARCH 1930-40's BATMOBILE COMICS PHOTOS to see what might have been...

  • @OLDSCHOOLHHSEX

Barris says, ON THE VIDEO: "I'm proud to say I was the designer and original builder of this automobile." That does NOT convey the truth about the car. Designed by Ford, built in Italy in the 50's as a concept car (Lincoln Futura). Had Barris mentioned ANY of those facts, his statement could be forgiven. The batmobile is different than the futura, but the similarities are way too striking, and obvious to anyone with eyes.

  • @TheCanine2 ReRead that part in my reply*WHERE BARRIS DID NOT BUILD THE BATMOBILE,HE MODIFIED IT?* Please?

  • .. this is all i want for Christmas. are you listening, Santa? i sure hope so. hehehe. hohoho.

  • a family friend of ours almost bought this car.. he bid 120,000 on it but it sold for 160,000.

  • Yeah well the tumbler sells for 250 grand

  • @TheBikerfilmer there is a company that sells replicas for around 150,000 dollars.

  • @TheBikerfilmer Let that be lesson to U all reading this post-ESPECIALLY on EBAY!!-Never bid on anything BECAUSE *SOMEBODY WILL ALWAYS OUTBID YOU* >=(p...Smart thing to do is look for that->BUY IT NOW OPTION<-Not like U bid $500 on clunker that looks great with WhiteWalls, and next person notices U placed offer where noboy even triedto bid,so they raise bid to $550,U go $600,They bid 650-Ahhh You get the idea-U tried so hard to get that Classic Vehicle-and somebody ALWAYS WILL OUTBID you

  • @TheBikerfilmer it wasn't the car seen in this video it must have been a replica

  • I saw this clip on the dvd last night and I was laughing when Mr.Barris share the story about him getting pull over and then arrested and then the judge said to the cop that you inpound the famous Batmobile and you put Mr.Barris in jail I'm going to depromote you to a dog catcher

Here the moral to that story don't inpound the Batmobile

  • @Terryfan Hey not just dont impound the BATMOBILE-BARRIS **WAS THE CREATOR OF THAT CAR-Without him,That vehicle NEVER would have existed** However,There was about 2-3 other car Customizers during those WILD 1960's and 70's who could have built the BATMOBILE...1 guy by name of DANIELS(Jeff Daniels?) was 1 of them,Ah'm not too sure about ED ROTH(famous for that Gremlin poking his head out ouf Sunroof with OverSized Shift Stick ROTF-LMAO!),Didnt he just build Hot rod Engines?

  • @OLDSCHOOLHHSEX True Mr.Barris is the man who created the classic Batmoblie it just a beast. I love Classic cars they are works of art. Yea the cop should have known better then to impound The Batmoblie and to place Mr.Barris in Jail The Judge I'm Sure was so angry that he would go so far as to make the cop a dog catcher, I'm sure the Judge even told Mr.Barris he was free to go home.

  • @Terryfan Is this true?If so that is very cool.

  • @MTD45 It's true you can watch the interview on the Batman The Movie dvd and it will give you the whole story. I pity the fool that inpound the batmoblie and put Mr.Barris in jail shame on that officer

  • I'm going to build one eventually.

  • just beautiful

  • There were 4 made for the show, the original, and the others for taking to shows, one was set up as a dragster. Look them up on the net and each has an interesting story.

  • The car was made from a 1955 Lincoln Futura that was donated by Ford motor company it was designed in france by Ford`s Ghia design studios George changed the features to make the car shown here for reference go to a search engine and look up : Lincoln Futura

  • Its a bit foggy, but I seem to remember a few old comic books my friend had back in the 50s saying "The Bat Man" on the

cover, instead of 1 word: "Batman".

  • I made the lights become the headlights 1:56...it's like saying i made the car become the automobile.

  • Based on the context of what he was talking about right then, I think he meant to say "I made the lights become the EYES..." See? He simply made a mistake.

  • he makes it sound like he is the sole person to come up with this car..not true...this car is actually a 1955 lincoln concept car ..the batmobile isnt far from what ford developed in 1955...just a few changes to the car and some black paint and walla la..its the batmobile...barris try's to sell the car off as his own design , but he just changed a few things and added black to a car that already exsisted some 9 years earlier

  • This is way more awesome than the stupid black tank of the Dark Knight.

  • True. It's the "real" Batmobile in my opinion. None of the movie ones can compare.

  • I don't know. Tim Burtons Batman mobile was cool but it moved like crap :D. And what about the 30:s and 40:s batmobile, shouldn't that be the "real" batmobile. Like the dude said, it was just an ordinary car with a batface on it. :D

  • Last week I finally found and bought the 1/18 diecast of this car. Now my die cast collection is nearly complete. :-)

  • barris has alot of nice cars, but i would kill to have towle's mach 5, i would slaughter to have it, name something, i would do it, to have it.

  • I like the one they covered with fuzz/felt whatever to keep the glare down.

  • It was covered with the fuzz to hide all the defects and stress cracks.

  • ugh, this is pure propoganda. This car existed in 1955...all this guy did was give it a new paint job.

    google 1955 Futura Concept Car.

  • Your absolutely correct. Glen Ford used it in a movie and it was painted red

  • 1966: the good,the bad and the ugly ;-)

  • If I am ever lucky enough to win the Lottery I am going to buy one of these cars!

  • cool Year 1966 / cool car

  • where is it switzerland?

  • that car must cost a fortune

  • Night Rider's Kitt> Batman Batmobile.

  • This car stands the test of time an too me is one of my favorite all time movie cars

  • This portrayal will forever be a disgrace and that's why this Batmobile will never be portrayed in the comics.

  • Why is that?

  • Muclesmariana take a look at the response above.

  • That show was my first batman and i will always love it. It was corny and stupid but it was just great and a classic.

  • actually it was portrayed in comics many times.

  • Which issues?

  • check my site.. pretty creepy stuff!

Baris' batmobile is the best.. screw all the rest..

  • Michael Keaton's Batman had the best Batmobile by far! BTAS batmobile is second.

  • In the description you say the original batmobile, it was thought up before that in the comics.

  • lmao... "what can u give us for the 20th century... in 1966?"

    hahahaha

  • he wears some dope cazals

  • coolest icon car of all-time...the 'original' batmobile had a plaque glued on the grill... THIS is the best batman car...the newer ones are GAY....THIS had,AND WILL ALWAYS HAVE STYLE--------

  • I feel so sorry for Bob Kane that this is still considered to be the definitive batmobile. Creations like The Batman should be timeless. This monstocity will always be forever stuck in the 60's

  • Your a fool if you think that car is horrible

  • The whole point of this show was to make fun of Batman, it was a laughing stock. Sure people loved it because it was the first time Batman was portrayed on T.V. in living colour, but this show was a comedy. Batman was never meant to be taken as a comedy. There have been comics that made Batman funny, but that was just to make money. Were lucky today to have an audience intelligent enough to take Batman as serious as he deserves to be taken.

  • Well it was the 60s. Robin was introduced in the comics and Batman became lighter and he started wearing light blue.

  • Well, Robin was introduced in Detective Comics 1940, and the costume originaly was a shade of blue. I have worked with Bob Kane at comic shows, and he loved Batman more then any one could ever love a character. I have talked to him about he show, and if you pick up Gotham Knights he talks about it too. When he saw the car, and when he saw people laughing at the show, he was absolutly heartbroken. The show never should have been dond that way.

  • Well i dont see how else it could have been done in 1966. Would kids watch a dark show? I would but ijust dont know. i love the old show.

  • it was for kids and at that time the comics were light as well... because of the censorship of comics. Batman started wearing bright blue i the comics before the show.

  • But what issue number is this version of the batmobile featured in? I have been collecting comics for 24 years and have never sceen this issue portraied in comcis.

  • i wrote down some issues in a message to your youtube mailbox.

  • I own those issues and sent you some images from them found on the web. They are not the same car

  • they are inspired by the show batmobile.

  • Inspired maybe, but different body shape, and colour, they are different cars, the ones in the books are much cooler, and follow the Batman story.

  • well that is why comic books will always be the true medium for batman.

  • Definelty

  • Do you consider the car in "the dark knight returns" by frank miller a "batmobile" or something else? and what about the tumbler?

  • Dark Knight Returns batmobile is for sure a batmobile, even though its more of a tank and less of a car, Batman held back on alot of that stuff, but it fit the story. Im not a huge fan of the tumbler, but I get why they went that way, following a Frank miller type story. I go for the sleaker faster cars myself. One of my favorites is the one from the Child of Dreams story line. I love the fact that The first Batmobile was just a 1942 Buick, no fins or symbols, just a car, then came the mecanic.

  • Chilid of dreams is when he is in tokyo right? With the shapeshifting thing. I havent read that in a while. i will read it again soon. The batmobile from child of dreams is similar to the keaton car right?

  • you got it

  • I have a few more questions. Did you like the "Dark knight?" Have you heard about the new Frank Miller batman graphic novel that is coming out?

  • Dark Knight is amazing, all the players did a phenomenal job, I can't see the next one topping this one.

Holy Terror, Batman! is set as a piece of propaganda, which I don't mind, kind of an homage to books from the 40s. I was there for the announcement at WonderCon in 06, not much was said, but it will be interesting for the bat to take on Al-Qaeda.

  • I cant wait to see batman break a terrorists jaw. Do you think robin is too corny or lame?

My least favorite batmobile is the one designed by kelley jones for Batman:Gotham after midnight.

  • i dont know who could replace Ledger in a sequel. I know the terrorists are pretty well equipped but against The Batman........they should just give up.

  • He's sure to have connections to their accounts, and able to cut their funding, then a few well placed Electromagnetic Bomb's, and finish off with taking out the armouries, it will be over before it even started.

  • Well if he can kick Supermans ass from time to time then he can defently knock around a few terrorists.....even at his advanced age.

  • I guess the tv show was pretty bad but the "batman and robin" film with george clooney....that was bad....really bad.

  • Batman and Robin was the only movie I have ever walked out on, right when Batman flipped on the Bat Skates. Lol it was pretty bad, I think I saw a few others get up and leave too

  • Holy shit batman!!..that movie sucked ass. I get depressed just thinking about what they did to my beloved Dark knight. I need prozac after watching that piece of shit. And that asshole joel schumaker should be killed in front of the male prostitute he is currently fucking.

  • I couldn't imagine what kind of pressure Chris Nolan is under. I think the best thing would be to give the Bat a break for a few years, and have WB/DC work on other projects. I would love to see a Green Lantern movie. I wouldn't mind Supes actually taking on a villain who is a threat, but I'm tired of Superman. JLA would be cool. If they start on a 3rd Dark Knight right away, I think it would bomb in the box office, and they would just fall back into the same cycle of terrible Batman movies.

  • yeah you are right. the problem with Batman and robin was it was rushed (due to the success of batman forever) and the film was not based on the comics. a JLA movie would be great. superman needs to kick ass in the next one to re gain his spot as the dc poster boy. asequel to TDK must be well though out so that we dont have to be on prozac. Its like being told santa isnt real when they take a dark figure like batman and make him like a ligh hearted asshole.

  • Lol thats awesome. Batman forever was okay... If its on during a Sunday afternoon I would watch it, but ya they took the wrong elements from it and crammed it into a god aweful movie. When your watching a Superman movie, its great to have bight colours, bright blue skys and such, but with a Batman movie, you should not be able to see your hand in front of your face.

  • you are right. batman forever was ok but it is no batman begins. Batman is the oposite of superman....or should be. and if they make batman and superman be friends in the JLA film i might just think about murdering someone. There is no logical way that a bright and friendly guy(superman)would get along with dark and grouchy pain in the ass like batman.

  • One of my all time favourite batman moments is actually from the JLU show. He captures a Russian mob foot soldier. The Russian says to Batman (in Russian) "I know you can't understand what I'm saying, but even if you could, I wouldn't tell you anything". And Batman replies (in Russian) "I can understand what you're saying". Then the screen goes black, music goes dramatic and all you see are Batman's white eyes, and he says "And you will".

  • i just found out that warner brothers offered routh and bale to reprise their roles and routh said yes and bale said "me and brandon will take this to a whole other level." i hope it happens. oh and what episode does batman speak russian? i want to see it.

  • Comment removed

  • i was just on the web looking for JLA movie news and i saw a disturbing article that said "the film may not feature batman and superman." so i will start my suicide note tonight.

  • One of the worst ever movies IMO

  • yeah

  • the crappy batman movies of recent years have very little in common with the real batman, batman was very cool and hillarious, the new stuff uses the same names for characters but the rest is nothing like the real batman, the new movies are boring and drag on too long and not even slightly funny anymore.

  • Real? I am confused by the term? Original Perhaps and that would be the comic books not the 1960 TV Show. None of the Film stuff has had any relation to the comic books. Directors Writers and Producers DO NOT READ! If they did there would be a whole lot less remakes and crap out there on the small and silver screens.

  • Your right. They don't even call him,it, Batman anymore. It is now, " The Dark Knight". OOOOHH

  • it was batman in the 60's perro
