  • I sure am glad you saved this piece of history!COOL video, have you decided on what vehicle to put it in?I know we cant save every old vehicle that we see,but I almost feel obligated to save as much as I can.If I'm not careful,it starts to look like Sanford and Son at our place

  • The barges that I pump for a living used to ahve these engines on them to operate the pump itself. Rock solid motors if taken care of.Had one on a barge for over 3 years before it needed a mechanic to come look at it.

  • I have been around these motors all my life. My Father had 671 in a 65 cracker box Jimmy that hauled many loads of strawberries. There is something hormonal about the smell of that engine!LOL Technically you want the lope in the idle for a truck. The throttle needs to be tied wide open when you run the rack and the injectors will be even at top end, the difference between 238 vs 250 hp. Also when idling for an extended time, 1400rpm will prevent fuel diluting the oil and prevent 'DETROIT DRIPS'

  • Great video!

Nice description too. I can tell you're one to develop a bit of an attatchment to these old girls.

They really are nearly human these beasts. . they need the right love shown to really deliver their potential.

Save as many as you can! We don't have that many here in Australia any more. It's always a privilege to see/hear/feel one running.

Any machine that won WW2 and is still in use today has to be respected.

  • This is one of my favorite videos of all time now. Great job filming that thing in such detail and quality! I have a new level of appreciation of how well built and uniquely designed a 6-71 is. So is that cam with the bar turning it slightly with the revs .. does that control the amount of fuel deliver and is therefore attached to a governor? The center rockers drive the injectors?

  • @maxhauler You are correct and if not properly adjusted, you can find out exactly how quickly these 2 strokes can get up to speed!

  • Excellent vid!! Gotta love a Detroit Diesel!! Great job saving her man! DD's are loud, smelly, smokey...just the way I like diesels!! :)

That engine still has the potential to make someone a pile of money im sure.

  • got to adjust the injector rack to get rid of the hunting

  • sweet engine. love those old DDs. i found an old gmc astro 95 with a 8v92 in it and it was headed to the junk yard. i managed to convince the owner to give it to me instead the motor was rebuilt before it was stored so it should be in running condition its just been sitting for 30 years. cant wait to hear her run again =)

  • @electricrailwaygod I don't know, those aren't all bad. It's nice to scavenge the super charge roff of and put on a chrylser.

  • Geez, strap it down! Don't want that thing rolling over onto your toe!

  • What were these motors put in?

  • @PissOnJapScrap every thing from ships to trucks, generators-tractors

  • now that is cool i love the 671's espically this being an older one with the 2 valve head sounds really good if u can get a video reving a bit with exhaust expoussed the way it is that be great. thanks for posting this.

  • Even by 6-71 standards, that's a sweet sounding engine.
