  • I need more practice!!!

  • I've been practicing these for the past...few minutes. XD I'm still practicing (well..obviously not now, since I'm commenting) But like...it is hard to make them faster..I need to just keep slow at first and slowly get faster so I don't add double strokes in there...

  • ok seriousley what the hell is with the drumsticks.

  • This, the double strokes, and quadruple strokes seem to be the easiest for me.

I can play this one in the video a little faster. Btw, your sticks are cool.

  • this has to be the hardest rudiment for me. well this and flams.

  • looks tense and painful without the möller whip-technique...

  • bunch of doubles in there

  • @JuJuHouse24 doubles probably are faster, and they are more used in music, the triple stroke roll can be learned if u like it, but i would just keep it to double roll.

  • is it just me or does this look sped up?

  • I didn't even know this existed? Is it worth learning or are doubles just faster?

  • @JuJuHouse24 Doubles are faster but triples look nice and also help to impress the judges during competition. Its worth the work.

  • @JuJuHouse24 everything is worth learning dude, : ) this can be played into so many different things as well.

  • i am a professional drummer, i say this is a great triple stroke roll. Beileve me, it's hard to learn ;)

  • @MrAndrore stick control

  • Comment removed

  • Which type of sticks are these?

  • @parkourista8 Pro Mark 5b Millenium II I believe.

  • @blacklabelkills Thanks

  • when you do a roll should you still have all your fingers on the stick??

  • omg i finally did it!!! how many people that still struggling! well dergfight is right... start jacking off with your left hand if your a right handed or if ur left handed start jerkin off with the right! it actually worked.

  • im a lefty, FUCK THE RIGHT HAND!

  • @Seabbass94 no such thing ,you should be equally efficient with both hands.

  • Easy

  • @cfaeslehc5091 yea right

  • @Seabbass94 i'm bi-dext :D

  • FUCK YOU LEFT HAND... so annoying :(

  • @screamolives story of my fucking life

  • The moeller technique goes well with this. But yeah single stroke it to get your left arm up to match.

  • @JustAnotherDrummerJG yu got that from tony roysters pure energy dvd right?

  • @jojo4687 lol nah more from jim chaplin and i learnt it from a guy named derrick pope (user/djp132)

  • dammit left

  • nice vid!!!

I bought a drum rudiment poster and dvd at

    DrumRudimentPoster.comx-minus the x :) it rocks!!!

  • this is one of the best for rudiment accents for a song, very useful!!

  • Yall some weird people.... O.o

  • @SuperHighJorge hillbilly!

  • Buy Double Beat 2004--see if that helps you guys that need work on your triple strokes.

  • Yea, I play drums in my teacher use to play in say that crazy bullshit bout jerk off!!!!LOL

  • I've tried several times, but It's almost impossible to finish myself off...

  • @Pjourcovadukla poor technique....ahem :P

  • @Dergfight I already do, but my right hand is still stronger. Maybe 3 times a day isn't enough......

  • @Dergfight lmao :). Not sure you are really serious or just kidding :)

  • @Dergfight mmmm... the bad thing of being a woman :(

  • @Dergfight also feels like someone else is doing it lmao

  • At higher speeds is he playing a double with a single immediately after it? I dont seem to get enough bounce for a 3rd stroke

  • no he's not playing it with a single stroke immediately after. I tend to hold my sticks a bit looser than normal with just my thumb and index to get enough bounce. idk if thats right tho

  • I feel my left hand weak... how to deal with it ? anybody ?

  • just practice speeding up and slowing down gradually

  • Lead with it for a while.

  • i have the same problem, you just have to keep practicing with your left hand untill it matches with the right. when ever i wanna try a ne paradiddle i always try learn it with my left hand first.....it just helps it keep up :)

  • I use a basic exercise and do more with my weaker had. It's four measures of single strokes, quarter notes. Then shift it into 8th notes 1 & 2&..etc for four measures. And then into 16th notes, 1 e & a 2 e & a... for sour measures. I accent the quarter notes in the 16th note part for a reference point. I go up through this patteren then back down. I start it slow so I get a good smooth control and go to about 75% of my top speed and just do it over and over. It helped me alot.

  • practice

  • every right-handed people feel left hand weak when it comes to playing drums. Decision could be not only play with left hand, but also do ordinary stuff that you usually do with your right. Like brushing your teeth, holding cup of tea, opening door and so on

  • @mechanizatorius does that include masturbation? Because if you were really horny your left hand could be up to par in a matter of days!

  • If you want a complete quality PDF with the 40 rudiments go to drumwatch.wordpress(dot)com

You'll find drum music sheets. Daily updated drummers blog.

  • hey please tell me what kind of surface are you using in your videos ?

  • its call drum pad, it gives you a real-feel of a drum skin. the surface is rubber

  • tree donkey, lets see your video much faster then this!

  • and..

  • indeed lets see the faster playing video

  • Think of rudiments like pushing a good ol' radioflyer from the back in the days with one of your (foolish enough to get in) friends.

You have to push using strength, stamina, endurance and technique, then when the wagon would get going you just let gravity do it's thing but with you guiding it.

    same thing with rudiments.

  • thats the hardest rudiment for me.

  • try using the moeller technique

  • I agree, the moeller technique is much fuller and smooth sounding. Also, its a lot eaiser once you get the hand of it.

  • These videos are really helpful :)

  • Is this stroke supposed to be like all from the wrist? Because I'd probably end up sneaking some fingers in there.

  • I'm left handed, but I'm faster with my right hand with double and triple strokes. I got this way by practicing singles with my left hand and doubles with my right hand at the same time. (LRR LRR) I never had formal lessons, so I don't know if this is a technique that should be shunned or praised to help with you weak hand.

  • now i get it! how i'm gonna get my left hand faster! wew! im dumb! shit....only this time i realized that i can do it! coz u did too! u do the LRR and i'll do it the reverse way RLL! damn! `bout this video? do the moller to do it the easy way of executing this triple stroke! complicated but effective! less effort! no pressures from the wrist! avoid doing it the hard way to eliminate muscle pains!

  • wow! ya i am right handed and have the same issue. i cant believe i didnt think of this before. thanks.

  • i understand, im left handed too.i never had formal lessons either

  • in drumming there is no right or left handed. you should be able to play equally well starting with either hand.

  • you are only as fast/strong as your weakest hand :-)

  • lol I never looked at that before:) thanks a lot man

  • i have a question, i'm really into drumming and i really want to learn it. i just bought a practice drum pad. What kind of drum does the practice drum pad represent?

  • basicly it can be any drum.. but in general people use it to practice their snare-techniques ;)

  • depends. vic firth slimpads are supposed to be like a 14" marching snare/tenor drum

stock pads have a little less rebound and are supposed to be like bass 1-2

  • This is easy, I'm just having trouble getting it to speed up like 0:16, then I'm lost :)

  • Same here, my left hand just won't keep up.

  • My left hand is really bad :(

  • I suggest doing everyday activities that you usually do but when you do them, use your left hand. Things like opening doors, brushing your teeth. ect

  • good idea. does it work for you?

  • wow, that's actually not a bad idea, never thought of that. THanks a musiciansfreind :p

  • i'm gonna give that a try

  • its my right hand that wont keep up

  • Buy a hand strengthener (kind of looks like a wishbone) and if you work out, try to do arm exercises on your left hand one or two reps more than your right.

  • lol yeh. Left hand its my weak hand, so its kinda hard to keep up. I recommend: practising

  • i dont see any of you "badasses" who are complaining putting up better videos, stop bitching and get to work, at least this guy is trying to help us.

  • yeah he started to do a pressed roll or whatever its called

  • wtf! DUDE that really didnt accomplish anything, i mean you only held it fo like 2 seconds that didnt really show anything

  • I can't stand these idiots who have to criticize every drum video on youtube. Get a life

  • nice left hand!

  • who says he only teaches pipe band stuff?

  • I never really saw this as a useful rudiment. I suppose it helps to develop the Moeller technique, but you can easily play triplets with single and double stroke combinations.

  • You mean you've never played eggbeaters?

  • Now those I will have to try!

  • lol when i try to do that with mine, its really hard and i get angry so i throw my sticks

  • practice a slower tempo.

    that's what i always doo.

i always got frustrated doing paradiddles.

so i just practiced slower and built up speed.

    :)

    just takes time yo.

  • True that.

  • @4419650 when you try to jerk with your left? lol

  • Hello!

Are we supposed to play 3 distinctive single strokes or do we let it bounce 3 times (like a ruff) when it goes really fast?

    Thanks a bunch!

  • distinct at low speeds

    bounce at high speeds

  • any tips at how to allow it to bounce i cant do it lol... i push down like when i do dbl stroke rolls and it doesnt work out

  • bladdida-rrruffida-bladdida-rrruffida...

watch that left hand (that i oh-so carefully cannot see)...

  • this drummer doesn't use enough finger and too much wrist. it's obvious in the sound difference of each hand.

  • what are you french? you only use finger on single stroke and timpani

  • check out carter beauford, dave weckl, and buddy rich. my 3 favorite drummers and most drummers would probably agree with me they are among the best ever. drumming is all about finger control. wrists guide the fingers but the fingers really should do most of the work. if you use "only wrist" you're really just choking the stick and not letting gravity work. instead youre working against yourself

  • k but buddy rich ive seen a video and uh wait nvm your right sorry

  • Uhm. Will you please stop writing in that ''these geeky words makes me able to type faster'' language? That sentence doesn't make any sense to me! Are you saying that he is right about Buddy Rich being among the worlds best drummers or do you disagree with him?

  • Oops. That comment were supposed to be a reply to CFowler13641's reply...

  • maybe if you read the rest of the comments you would understand

  • uhm they're normal rum sticks he's just using the other end

  • yeah i noticed that, why does he do that

  • becouse hes not using a normal snare drum

  • Neil Peart does this as well, he just has them custom made for better handles...

  • Jon Theodore and Thomas Pridgen > Neil Peart.

  • neil peart is the bst drummer alive

  • think again

  • u left out carter beauford

  • Probably because he's playing with light sticks...and get to get more rebound, and more weight, he plays with the end of his sticks, when he could just use a pair of marching sticks....but whatever.

  • by the way, watch his hands as the loosen as it goes faster and then he tightens up when he slows down. its impossible to go that fast without using the bouce back. Controlling the bounce off the the tom is key. you master that your fast as fucking lightning

  • no tips on the stick?

  • i know, its like the worst kind of drum stick ever :P

  • yes the drummer in this video needs to drop his sticks from higher, no question

  • hum...

  • Triplets = RIGHTHAND lefthand righthand LEFTHAND righthand lefthand...

  • IS THIS TRIPPLETS???

  • no you dumbass TRIPLE STOKE ROLL. rhrhrh lhlhlh rhrhrh lhlhl, etc.

  • yes\

  • No...

  • why? i could be, three notes in one beat, thats a tripplet

  • The clip is called: Triple Stroke Roll.

So it's not triplets... And yes I know they could be if you use them differently in a pattern but he doesn't seem to do that...

  • its a gimp version of the moeller technique

  • I used to have the same problem with stick height. You will get a faster and more consistant sound by starting your downstroke about 4 inches higher.
