Lame, why would I even think of buying something from a company that made Sega Saturn? Or even Dreamcast, which was somewhat decent but nowhere near the caliber of PS and MS. I hope Sega is that stupid... There is waaaaaay to much of a competing market nowadays that's hard enough as it is to keep track of. Advice to Sega: Keep making games, and remakes old classics updated with hardware, like nintendo has been doing, its your only chance to stay afloat! GRAND UPPA!!!!

what is a pc made up of? a mobo cpu ram and input/output ports and some sort of gpu (integrated or dedicated) . what is a console see above it is a pc and always will be a pc you are able to install an OS on older PS3's (non updated) as well as the origonal dream cast which ran a modified verson of windows ce. Hacks have been done to install on other consoles but haven't been very productive due to proprietary hardware

If Sega got back into the console wars, they may not do well unless they can get some interesting gaming franchise deals like the 360 and the ps3 have, otherwise, mots of their first party stuff is mostly arcade and obscure stuff. 10-11 years ago was a vastly different market than it is today, you didn't have movie-budget games back then..

@growingsage Blatantly wrong. Look at the Genesis versions of Altered Beast, Galaxy Force II etc...Only the Dreamcast was directly comparable to arcade boards (Naomi, Model 3) but it had less Ram than the arcade versions.

Sega never dislosed the Dreamcast until it was ready to be disclosed, it was 3dfx that released the Dreamcast, this console won't be discovered until Sega is ready for it to be discovered, that is if there even is a console.
I would love for Sega to make a new console but I'm not being rude but it wouldn't make it the console looks unappealing the structure I think they are best off making games with nintendo Sonic makes tons of money
I highly doubt Sega will attempt to enter the hardware market again. They would either have to out compete Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. The only thing they could do differently besides do full 3D support and most up to date processor is to only include a massive harddrive 1-2 TB, and cloud harddrive support where someone does not have to buy optical disks. I frankly do not see Sega having the resources to do something like this. Only Sony has the financial resoures to do so.
PS has been awesome for the new generation...Nintendo will be Nintendo.
But man, remember the megadrive, Saturn, gamegear, DC...those were some unique consoles, with a very unique sense of nostalgia...well, at least for me.

what sega is trying to do is make a superior arcade unit. It wont be one game on a board it will be an arcade system that you can swap the gamees around in. so you could call this a console since it is a machine that plays games off of disks but it will only be realeased to the private arcade owner market at a very VERY high price tag
I will. Although I don't think Sega has the creativity to make decent enough games to warrent a new console, I'm a sucker to buying anything with the Sega brand still.

Why wouldnt they just up it up from that basic shit and make them Intel iX processors with 4-8 cores, 4-8 GB DDR3 RAM, nVidia's latest GTX Graphic cards in SLI, and HD audio. And hell, have better storage! Compact flash storage is slow, and gaming lag would surely happen. Atleast use a High speed SSD.
Oh and I guess I spoke in the context of assuming that it WOULD come out in 2012, but if it comes out this year, that goes for the actually existing 360 and PS3 and fans as well ;).

It's still good news even if they're for arcade machines and if they're Sega because that would mean at least Sega are getting back into the hardware business. Never know, this tells me Sega might jump back into the console business later on. I hope they do cos Wii is... meh and 360 is super unreliable.

It's guerrilla warfare in the industry., just like Apple and Microsoft rolled in, they had nothing and became billionaires. Well Microsoft anyways. Sega's biggest idea will be "Say something when we release, no sooner no later, don't raise hype until we have a full product that beats the competition in all aspects then boom in and hit them where it hurts.

i agree, this is an arcade system board, would be nice if it was a games console though because who would not want a console with a SSD rather than a HDD, all these games these days and there long load times are getting annoying, I'm surprised game loading time isn't a thing of the past. If this is in-fact a console I hope there are no doom lights like the ol skool consoles. Would be interesting to see Atari doing something as well.

man i grew up on sega as a kid, N64 looked like shit to me and i was tired of nintendo. Sega always had consistently great games that i still play. the Dreamcast was way ahead of its time and in my opinion was released too early. if they would have released the PS2 then the DC, i think the story would have been a bit different. I think right now or some time 2011 would be a good time to release a console, they are restructuring to save money and also, Sony is not planning on releasing anything until 2015 or so, Microsoft is overly optimistic that natal will breath a few more years of life into the 360 and Nintendo is not planning on anything and also with the 360 just think, most of its big game franchises are coming to a end. Gears of war 3,Halo reach, fable 3 and mass effect 3 will all be coming out by next year.

Why wouldnt they just up it up from that basic shit and make them Intel iX processors with 4-8 cores, 4-8 GB DDR3 RAM, nVidia's latest GTX Graphic cards in SLI, and HD audio. And hell, have better storage! Compact flash storage is slow, and gaming lag would surely happen. Atleast use a High speed SSD.
