Rent - RENT - Encinal High School

...this is good, but a few things.... mark's mom is jewish... and wearing a christmas vest. my high school is putting this on as well, and honestly a lot of the singing in this is more screaming to a tune in parts/ talking.... not real broadway voices. it is good, mark and roger sound good, but it is not the bets version in the world.

im not saying they don't have talent, i was just pointing out the christmas vest thing, because it's one of those little things that might irk some (like me, im jewish loll) i didn't mean to sound so judgemental i swear! x) im in high school theater and we did this, i was just kinda mentioning some stuff. believe me, we had our faults too lol.

@bens2good i didn't see it, our quality showed up bad on video as well, im sure it was a good show though here! wish i had seen it, i've only been in our version and seen the broadway on youtube. i hate when the sounds get messed up.

There is such thing as doing songs a little different. Its called bringing your own take to it. Its acceptable in theatre.

While I can appreciate the director's audacity in doing this show, it just loses most of its muster when done in an edited format. Also, I agree that it is a bit lackluster.  Other than that, solid work.

And one more thing, Mark isn't really supposed to have a rock voice. He's a geeky AV club nerd, he's not gonna be joining any Guns and Roses tribute bands. I think that he did a really good job with his part.

I dont want to get in the middle of this death match here, but I saw this and felt that I had to speak up.

This is a high school production of a Broadway show, and you have to take that into account. The people who played these parts on Broadway are actors and rockers in their late 20's early 30's, so of course it isn't going to be as good. But if it not being as good as a Broadway performance doesn't convey the message to your liking then I would suggest you not see anymore school productions

It's not me you're really offending. It's the cast of the show. You know the guy who said that you should be Mark instead? Yeah...he was Mark in this vid. Matthew Strasser, great singer, great guy. I don't think, I KNOW that this show was amazing. I was there.

I am very sorry for offending the actors. That wqas not cool of me, but saying things like "go fuck yourself" doesn't make you any better. Its disappointing when productions of Rent aren't conveying the message tp people who are seeing Rent for the first time. Its supposed to be a life changing show so I have very high standerds for people who put on this show.

You are very talented, I'm just very particular about who performs in Rent since its such an amazing show and I'm so used to hearing the Broaday people I got carried away. Its not that am not happy with the actors, its that Rent has been given to high schools who won't do the same job as the professionals at conveying the message. I am very sorry for insulting you. the Mark's singing is not rock enough for rent. he sounded constipated. the ms.cohen was just terrible. Collins can sing amazing, but can't act.

This made me feel so uncomfortable. People can't act and it sounds like 90% of what's sung isn't in the people's ranges! I always thought it was wierd for a high school to do Rent anyway, but this reinforces it... And you have such a huge cast!! You could do so many other good shows.

I'm not a student at EHS, but I do partake in their productions (Not this one, obviously.). This is a special "School edition" of RENT, which edits out the some of the heavier cussing and sex scenes. It was phenomenal, though.

Lol, that's weird. St. Mary's College Prep High School (A catholic school I applied to but didn't get into.) is doing Grease. I went to Catholic Elementary and Middle school and I hated it. Public School is hella better. Plus, it's cooler.
