Your comment that monosaccharides could practically be injected into our bloodstream because they don't have to be broken apart, seems to imply that you believe that they raise blood glucose levels more quickly than polysaccharides. Please consider the Glycemic Index, which clearly shows that fructose, a monosaccharide, raises blood sugar more slowly than white bread, a polysaccharide. Obviously, there is more to the metabolism to glucose than just breaking apart the molecules.

Someone tell me if i'm wrong, but basically... eat carbohydrates 'cos you can eat more without putting on more but it doesn't work if you have a sedentary life style. don't eat too much as it makes to much glucose and glucose makes insulin and if your body gets too used to it and you could develop diabetes....carbohydrates give you energy so would be great for growing teenagers especially if they're taking part in sporting activitys and the elderly?someone correct me if im wrong; its 4 an exam:)
Eating too much carbohydrates can cause diabetes. They will cause you to have too much glucose. Body then releases insulin and after years, you become insulin resistant if the levels are too high.
I'm taking a nutrition class in college and needed a little extra info than I was getting from the book. This was a great video that really explained it all well. Thanks and keep it coming!
Need this educational video (she explains it very well) in Spanish, please! I'm trying to persuade my obese dad to lose weight, but he is only Spanish . =]
Thank you so much! I am taking a college Nutritions class and my teacher SUCKS. You helped me understand material that I need for my test. Again, thank you.
thank you this was a really helpful lecture. i was wondering if you have lectures on fats and protein too online? if do please let me know , thank you!
Great video, I'm bodybuilding and trying to figure out how much carbs vs fat I need to build, maintain muscle and lose body fat. This video is very helpful in understanding carbohydrates.
here are some GREAT raw carb sugggestions. #1 is....BANANAS!!! I used to HATE bananas but have transitioned to larger amount of raw food diet and it is SO GOOD (i've done research) and find I like it now.
Also SEEDS are fantastic! I like pumpkin and sunflower seeds! they have large amount of good carbs, Yams and carrots are great though I still find Bananas to be good raw carb source. Have fun trying some, you don't have to cook food to get good carbs, and NO POTS & PANS TO WASH! (fav part!) xo
wow.. your knowledge and attention to detail is extraordinary. I can vison them perals as little energy cubes. And also the workers chilling out on the kerb holding a load of fat waiting to be burned..
hey guys! i might be gluten intolerance i workout allot and hard i depend on complex carbohydrates .. can someone give me an alternative to bread which can be very good for you and your energy levels all day?
@TheRogueMonk You don't need "complex" carbs. Complex carbs are a myth anyway, if you look at the glycemic index of most "complex" carbs they are usually higher than table sugar. Try loading up on fats and proteins and do your same workout. If you have a very high protein high fat, low carb diet, you'll be amazed at how strong you become and how long lasting your energy levels are.
@TheRogueMonk R,aw carb sugggestions. #1 is....BANANAS!!! I used to HATE bananas but have transitioned to larger amount of raw food diet and it is SO GOOD (i've done research) and find I like it now.

That's great i am glad that some posted this! So i have a question! This new Lipton Lenea that has been released lately says that it increases metabolism rate and helps you lose fat but as i was looking the bottle it says that it has fructose!!!!!!! So how can this be? if this glucose is natural then is probably ok but if it's not? How can this increase your metabolism?
Carbs are not utilized by our body as energy, they are broken down into sugar which is then taken care of by insulin, Fats are our sole source of energy
the talk at about 5:20 about rapid metabolism, ive never bin fat and i eat alot of food and never gain weight but when i was about 16 i started drinking alot of lager and then i put on alot of weight im 19 now, about 3 stone i think.
This is somewhat outdated information. Read Gary Taubes Good Calories Bad Calories to breaks some of the myths in this video. For example, it is a myth that complex carbs are healthier than simple carbs. Actually complex carbs keep the blood sugar elevated for long periods, causing much higher toxic effects like glycation, which is when glucose attacks protein molecules. Glycation may be a major unknown source of inflammation of the arteries as well as arthritis (glycation of collogen).
what she said thers ppl that can eat wht they want and not gain weight? thats just bullshit iw anna see a skinny guiy eat 7000 calories a day like an obese person n see if hes not gon gain weight... is een this alot ppls say they can eat what they want but when u look at their eatin is not that much......... usualy around 1500-2000
"Air control tower monitoring..." I feel like a dunce when she uses metaphors like "lamps",etc. View Natalie's videos if you want to get more info in 1/4 the time. I was interested but tedious at best. Don't know why it took so long. Perhaps a screening before putting it on the air...
I have never heard carbs explained so accurately!
here is way too much misinfo on carbs our there.
The only thing I have a problem with is her underemphasis on calories. BOTH total calories and food type ARE important. If you eat too many calories, you will get fat, PERIOD!
The idea that eating too many calories causes weight gain is a myth. Fat cells are in a state of equilibrium, constantly absorbing fatty acids from the blood and also releasing fatty acids into the blood. There is only one hormone that shifts this equilibrium towards the storage of fat: Insulin. Insulin levels are almost entirely determined by the amount of carbohydrates that are eaten. Therefore, weight gain is from eating carbs. Eliminate carbs and your body will find its optimal weight.
totally ignorant, can you not do math? dont get on here spreading nonsense. even if you eat the helathiest food on the planet if you eat more calories then you burn you will gain fat, period. if your insulin is out of whack then you can have many iisues, but insulin is not the reason
Totally ignorant? Thanks for labeling me. As I said, your information is outdated. If you haven't read Good Calories, Bad Calories, you need to. It isn't a diet book, it's a deep, scholarly and historical look into our nutritional beliefs and their foundation.
I think you would agree that an adolescent doesn't get taller based on how many calories they eat. Obviously this is controlled hormonally. The same is true of storage of fat.
Whether our fat cells store fat is a function of the hormonal signals that they receive. This is basic endocrinology, there is nothing controversial about this.
From wikipedia on Insulin:
"Insulin causes cells in the liver, muscle, and fat tissue to take up glucose from the blood, storing it as glycogen in the liver and muscle, and stopping use of fat as an energy source"
In simpler words: Insulin signals fat cells to increase capture of fat and simultaneously decreases the release of fat.
Insulin is the only hormonal signal that signals the cells to store fat. Without elevated insulin levels, you can eat any number of calories but never gain weight. I'm sure you have friends that eat like horses, but magically stay thin. I certainly do.
The reason that our nutritional beliefs have strayed from science is that this basic knowledge of endocrinology was not well understood in the 50s and 60s when the concept of calories became fashionable.
It has nothing to do with math, it has to do with how much fat the fat cells are signaled to store. It is primarily carbohydrates that cause elevated insulin levels, and therefore eating carbs causes people to become overweight.
A good argument can be made that before agriculture (only 5 to 10 thousand years ago) man had very little access to nutritional carbs (excluding fiber). Our primary energy system was based on fatty acids from animal fats and proteins. Our body runs fine on fat.
The diseases of civilization, which do NOT afflict primitive societies, like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimers etc, are a product of the rise of agriculture, which for the first time in history has offered mankind a high starch, high sugar diet, thus causing our epidemic of obesity.
If you reply to this post, please reply to the points I have raised rather than just calling me names.
@animalmagnetism69 ah incorrect again, hrmones control the process but that is all. pleasee learn just a ltille about human anatomy and apply just a bit of logic. obviously an adolescent gets taller based on calories, you cant build a building without bricks ya know. please go learn something
@MisterNutrition Only on the Internet can one be insulted by someone from something one wrote 7 months ago. Mister Nutrition, are you connected with psychetruth or the author of the video? I hope not, because it doesn't make sense to be insulting one's listeners.
You obviously didn't understand what I meant about adolescents. I wasn't denying that kids need calories to grow. But what I meant was that a kid could eat 10,000 calories a day, but it won't make them grow taller any faster.
@MisterNutrition I'm not sure why you are disagreeing with me so strongly. We basically agree that meat (which is high in protein and fat) and zero carbs, is very healthy to eat. We agree that man has been primarily a carnivore for many 100's of thousands of years.
I also agree that if one wants to lose weight, you may need to restrict calories as wells as carbs.
I have heard that drinking warm water helps melt stored fat. For me it definitely helps with elimination. I believe it loosens up waste and lubricates the large intestine. By this line of thinking the cold water that most people drink freezes fat or slows down the fat burning process. I wonder if someone has an opinion on that.
I think it is the exact opposite. When you drink cold water, your bodies metabolism speeds up to raise the tempature of the water; hence fat gets burned. I'm not a professional tho, so im not entirely sure either.
I would agree with you that drinking cold water would speed up metabolism, in the winter if you are cold, your body will be using MORE ENERGY to warm itself up!!! This is why when people work out and believe that they are losing more weight if they SWEAT, well yeah, but its all WATER weight, not weight for fat. Lol
ok the lowdown on water, yes cold water will burn a few more calories, however hot water does the same, your body can only absorb anything at body temp, no more no less, so it needs to get to that temp. also water does help with defacation, and the part about burning fat is totally true, need water to digest and move waste, basically water is a miracle your body needs tons of it every day, drink eater and eat meat to be healthy
I think you're the best speaker psychetruth has so far. It's really easy to understand and I enjoyed it, but maybe you should include more visual aids?
Interesting to note:A number of years ago I was watching an interview on T.V. A question, was presented to the 2 guest from 2 major Breweries as to why? was labelling beer bottles and packaging , exempt from putting labels on their products.Which, with most consumable products Companies are required to list the ingredients .. Their answer: ...["We don't have enough room on the bottle let alone the box"]. Apparently, in some domestic beer products there are 2500 constituents in a bottle of beer.
Wow that was really interesting. I liked your analogies.I learned a lot from this thanks. On ATP I worked in a Turkey Processing plant. I was in the part moving the prepared birds to the chill room. One birds heart appeared to be beating rapidly. Offcurse all the innards were removed.I thought I was halucinating . I touched it to feel the breast moving. My friend who was a biologist said it was due to ATP. It was a wierd experience first thing on a Monday morning.
I'm suprised she didn't mention essesntial sugars in the sense that there is a range of sugars that our body synthesizes with excessive numbers of steps involved. So while not truely essential, the human body is put under much less load if the diet provides the sugars. Although I am weary if these sugars can even cross into the blood in the form which the cells use (outside of ATP)
The BBC made a series of episodes about food "the truth about food" and they made one experiment at one point witch says that the hole thing with the metabolism (that some of us are burning faster and we are skinnier because of that) is just a myth. They said that it is directly related with the fact that how much we eat and doesn`t have anything to do with metabolism. They even said that fat people have a faster metabolism then regular people.
This is a big help, Ill have to watch this a few times to retain the info, but this direct explanation, is invaluable, lots of people don't like to be taught to, but I really like this direct form of distributing information and knowledge thanks 5 stars for this one!
Great stuff! Great to be able to link up all these terms/substabnces that i've heard of and how it fits into the grand scheme of things. I look forward to the next one!
Great video! These are the types of videos that I love from this channel; the informative ones. Not that kissing tips are unimportant, but this is definitely more useful to me.
When oh when will the truth be told about low carbing? This video is close, but it doesn't quite cross the line.
We *do not* need carbs! If they are a non-essential nutrient why do you say that we need them? That is very misleading.
Lipolysis or benign ketosis is a valid and healthy way of eating. Just ask the Inuit and Massai tribes, or Dr Atkins, Dr Sears, Dr Cordain, Dr Price, Dr Groves, or any caveman (with whom you are genetically identical).
Absolutely true. If people enjoy carb heavy foods then go ahead and eat them, but stop buying into the false claim that we NEED to consume whole grain pasta's, bread, etc. Veggies are great sources of vit. min. and nutrients, fruits are good (but not great) sources, and anything else that has carbs is probably doing more harm than good to your body. So eat them if you want, but don't try saying that a healthy person needs carbs to stay healthy.
You have missed the most important point regarding carbohydrate. Carbs cause an uncontrollable compulsion to eat in some people (over eaters) Read Atkins,I did and it saved my life.
Thanks for the awesome vid Radhia! I found this extremely educational and NOT too technical -- a great balance.
The idea that we're only going to use about a teaspoon of glucose in our entire body really opened my eyes. I'm a simple sugar addict trying to kick the habit and that bit of information really helps me visualize what I'm doing to myself when I have a can of soda or bunch of cookies. Yikes!
what about stevia? Now if carbs make us fat, and 9 times out of 10 people are eating to many carbs. Is there a calculation to tell us how many carbs to eat and how long will it take to burn? Becuase i'm trying to loose 100 lbs and i need carb to workout. Is there a way to calculate how much we need?
it contains protein, creaine, vitamin b, iodine and pretty much everything else you need for a healthy life. eat tons of fruit and meat and drink tons of water, simple!
Give me a cow that was raised eating only organic matter and killed peacefully. I want the meat within 1 hour. Once I have the meat, I'll eat it raw. Other then that, I am a raw vegan.
Yes, meat may contain these things, but we don't need meat to be healthy, if one is consuming enough fruits and veggies (and a bit of seed/ nuts). Im rly curious to hear Radhia's opinion though..
True, we don't "need" meat, but it is an excellent source of many nutrients, and is virtually the only source that contains all the necessary amino acid chains. The protein in nuts, soy, etc. is not nearly as useful to the body as that contained in steak, eggs, chicken, etc. So you can certainly avoid meat if you want, but both sides of "meat-eating" should be more honest about what the benefits and side effects of meat consumption.
Actually, animal protein is really not as useful for many reasons. One being as that it contributes to osteoporosis. Hemp is a complete plant protein and not only does it have a lot, it's protein is absorbed very well. But of course their is soy and quinoa which are both complete proteins. Most Americans get twice as much protein as their body actually needs. For me, protein is extremely easy to find in plants foods. Some of the biggest and strongest animals in the world are herbivores.
Not true. All of the natural foods that have the highest biological value come from animal sources. In decreasing order they are- Eggs, Egg whites, Poultry (chicken/turkey), Fish, Beef, Milk. The proteins in grains, nuts, etc. are not as easily absorbed by the body and converted to muscle, energy, what have you. You can certainly get good proteins from those sources, but they are nowhere near the most efficient. Where do you ge tthe notion that americans eat 2x as much protein as necessary?
Well, it is not just a "notion". More doesn't always mean better. There have been plenty of studies to support this. You can only fit so much info on youtube comments (confound it!) Also, it's quite obvious when the countries that eat the least amount of animal products also have less cases of cancers, obesity, heart problems, diabetes, osteoporosis, etc. These are not some random claims that I am making up. pcrm (dot) org is one website with information, but I swear that isn't even the start.
More certainly doesn't always mean better, and I'm not saying one should eat a ton. But just to refute your claim, its not true that countries with highest levels of an. consumption have the highest levels of the thigns you mention. Some of the leanest and healthiest peoples throughout history have eaten almost exclusively fats and proteins from animals (masaii in Africa, Inuit peoples, etc.) and have the lowest levels of obesity, heart disease, etc.
True, but these people also get much more physical exercise than the average American because they are using the fat and protein that they consume. Most people don't use these nutrients. If somebody doesn't get much exercise than their body has to get rid of that excess protein and it basically goes to waste anyways. What I stated is True. Have you taken a look at the countries that consume the most dairy products? I am sure you mean moderation is key, but still, meat protein isn't superior.
Precisely. Moderation is the key, as well as MOVEMENT. You're right about some of the biggest/strongest animals being herbivores. If we want to live like a cow, or a gorilla, then yeah, we should eat like them. If all you do is sit at a desk, consume calories, and then go to sleep then a low fat/high salad diet is probably the way to go. But I think most americans should get off their chairs and move, in which case we need more pro. and fat. But I agree with you about your general idea :)
Don't assume that someone who eats a plant based diet is lazy or has no energy. Plenty of athletes don't eat animal products. They get their energy from carbs instead of fat. If someone really did need fat on a plant based diet they don't have to do much. Where you would probably lose weight eating raw potatoes eating them cooked could easily help you get fat, which is why farmers feed their pigs cooked potatoes. I'm getting off track, but that comment about sitting at a desk all day was absurd.
I hardly said that at all. I said that if thats what a person does then they should eat a plant based diet. You've made a logical error (incorrect reversal) in evaluating that statement. I didn't say that you couldn't eat a plant based diet and still be extremely active. So yeah, try and keep the discussion focused to what is actually said.
"But I think most americans should get off their chairs and move, in which case we need more pro. and fat."
That was what I was mostly referring too. It sounded as though you meant if want to be active then you need more animal products. I probably did interpret it incorrectly.
No worries. Like I said at the end of an earlier post, I think we probably have a lot of common ground here, its simply a disagreement about "degree" (the levels of pro/fat/carbs and whether animal fats/pro should be consumed). My point is merely that to demonize them is inaccurate and ignores mountains of data supporting ways they can be very good for you. That certainly does not imply that a veggie or vegan diet can't also be good for you. My sister is veggie and she's in great shape :)
Exactly what I was trying to get across. I completely agree with you minus the "amount" issue. You can eat meat and be healthy. And can not eat meat and be healthy.
i have to disagree, you must eat some meat to be healthy. it contains b-12, creatine and iodine, these are essential to being helathy and only found in the correct forms and amounts in animal products
No, you don't need meat. I haven't had meat in almost two years and I know a woman who has not had any animal products in over 15 years and she is perfectly fine. It really is not hard to get these nutrients without animal products. It just takes some research and time. This is a new thing for many people. You can eat meat & be healthy, but it is not necessary and it's not hard to live without it (nutritionally speaking).
(Oddly, there are lots of comments regarding meat for a carbs video. Lol)
You may be healthy but if you dont eat some animal protien your energy will be lower than those who eat meat. But eating animal protein very often is bad. Plus the people I knew that were vegans were always moody people.
Send me a PM when you have some credible sources supporting that vegans will have less energy. I have more energy than I use to. Plus you don't know me so you have no idea about my moods or emotions.
Thats a pretty poor argument. Foods that take longer to digest will provide you with more sustained energy. A candy bar digests rapidly and will give you a quick burst of energy, but 45 mintues later you will either crash or need to eat again. So if you're argument is that eatting fruits and veggies every 20 minutes is the best source of energy than maybe that makes sense, but if you want to be able to eat a meal and have a steady supply of energy than slower digesting foods are better.
Thats true, which is why I think vegetables are a crucial component to a good diet. I was responding to his claim that because meat takes a long time to digest it is therefore unhealthy. You certainly don't want to be consuming rapidly digestable foods, especially sugars (carbs) due to their effect on insulin levels. Sorry if my prior statement implied that I was against vegetables. I'm not against fruits either (for obvious reasons), but their sugar content does mean one should limit them.
understand. I'm actually in the same boat as you. I love eating meat! I'm kinda new to figuring a lot of this out. I work out and stuff and think 5-6 meals - HIGH protein, etc... but iv'e been trying this raw food stuff, cutting back on the animal meat and it seems to be really good!! i don't know. i'm just a truth seeker trying to figure out what is the best and optimum way during times with a CORRUPT gov't & world where we are lied to on everything!! :)
no eat meat definitly, 5-6 meals is perfect, eat carbs in the am and throughout the day switch to protein, lots of chicken and red meat, veggies are a waste of time, when counting calories you need to get the most bang for the buck, veg have too many cals for the little nutrition they provide
agree!! i'm paranoid on eating fruit while trying to lose body fat but retain muscle. but i'm also wondering if all of that protein is necessary? protein shakes, 20-40 grams each meal, 3-4 hours a day, etc.. Or is it okay to just eat some veggies for one meal, say cucumber and celergy with some almonds? what i'm doing is working, slowly, just wondering what is the best way to lose all of that stomach fat I put on over the years of bad dieting with zero moderation on things.
thanks for the video cause i have nutrition class and this help

@ikkinnikk
Metabolism takes place in each and every cell and is carried out by enzymes,or rather chains of enzymes.
Catabolism in particular is the process whereby complex molecules are converted to energy in the form of ATP.
In the production of ATP,oxygen would kind of be the flame you are talking about
SuperLLL 5 months ago
@SuperLLL
Now that I think about it,it would be more fitting that electrons and hydrogen are the flame, since oxygen is just the final acceptor

hey guys! i might be gluten intolerance i workout allot and hard i depend on complex carbohydrates .. can someone give me an alternative to bread which can be very good for you and your energy levels all day?
TheRogueMonk 1 year ago
@TheRogueMonk You don't need "complex" carbs. Complex carbs are a myth anyway, if you look at the glycemic index of most "complex" carbs they are usually higher than table sugar. Try loading up on fats and proteins and do your same workout. If you have a very high protein high fat, low carb diet, you'll be amazed at how strong you become and how long lasting your energy levels are.
animalmagnetism69 1 year ago
@TheRogueMonk R,aw carb sugggestions. #1 is....BANANAS!!! I used to HATE bananas but have transitioned to larger amount of raw food diet and it is SO GOOD (i've done research) and find I like it now.
(fav part!)

This is somewhat outdated information. Read Gary Taubes Good Calories Bad Calories to breaks some of the myths in this video. For example, it is a myth that complex carbs are healthier than simple carbs. Actually complex carbs keep the blood sugar elevated for long periods, causing much higher toxic effects like glycation, which is when glucose attacks protein molecules. Glycation may be a major unknown source of inflammation of the arteries as well as arthritis (glycation of collogen).

I have never heard carbs explained so accurately!
here is way too much misinfo on carbs our there.
The only thing I have a problem with is her underemphasis on calories. BOTH total calories and food type ARE important. If you eat too many calories, you will get fat, PERIOD!
Good vid!
ModelAnarchist 2 years ago 3
The idea that eating too many calories causes weight gain is a myth. Fat cells are in a state of equilibrium, constantly absorbing fatty acids from the blood and also releasing fatty acids into the blood. There is only one hormone that shifts this equilibrium towards the storage of fat: Insulin. Insulin levels are almost entirely determined by the amount of carbohydrates that are eaten. Therefore, weight gain is from eating carbs. Eliminate carbs and your body will find its optimal weight.
animalmagnetism69 2 years ago
totally ignorant, can you not do math? dont get on here spreading nonsense. even if you eat the helathiest food on the planet if you eat more calories then you burn you will gain fat, period. if your insulin is out of whack then you can have many iisues, but insulin is not the reason
MisterNutrition 2 years ago
Totally ignorant? Thanks for labeling me. As I said, your information is outdated. If you haven't read Good Calories, Bad Calories, you need to. It isn't a diet book, it's a deep, scholarly and historical look into our nutritional beliefs and their foundation.
I think you would agree that an adolescent doesn't get taller based on how many calories they eat. Obviously this is controlled hormonally. The same is true of storage of fat.
animalmagnetism69 2 years ago
Whether our fat cells store fat is a function of the hormonal signals that they receive. This is basic endocrinology, there is nothing controversial about this.
From wikipedia on Insulin:
"Insulin causes cells in the liver, muscle, and fat tissue to take up glucose from the blood, storing it as glycogen in the liver and muscle, and stopping use of fat as an energy source"
In simpler words: Insulin signals fat cells to increase capture of fat and simultaneously decreases the release of fat.
animalmagnetism69 2 years ago
Insulin is the only hormonal signal that signals the cells to store fat. Without elevated insulin levels, you can eat any number of calories but never gain weight. I'm sure you have friends that eat like horses, but magically stay thin. I certainly do.
The reason that our nutritional beliefs have strayed from science is that this basic knowledge of endocrinology was not well understood in the 50s and 60s when the concept of calories became fashionable.
animalmagnetism69 2 years ago
It has nothing to do with math, it has to do with how much fat the fat cells are signaled to store. It is primarily carbohydrates that cause elevated insulin levels, and therefore eating carbs causes people to become overweight.
A good argument can be made that before agriculture (only 5 to 10 thousand years ago) man had very little access to nutritional carbs (excluding fiber). Our primary energy system was based on fatty acids from animal fats and proteins. Our body runs fine on fat.
animalmagnetism69 2 years ago
The diseases of civilization, which do NOT afflict primitive societies, like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimers etc, are a product of the rise of agriculture, which for the first time in history has offered mankind a high starch, high sugar diet, thus causing our epidemic of obesity.
If you reply to this post, please reply to the points I have raised rather than just calling me names.
Thanks, David

But what I meant was that a kid could eat 10,000 calories a day, but it won't make them grow taller any faster.
animalmagnetism69 1 year ago
@MisterNutrition I'm not sure why you are disagreeing with me so strongly. We basically agree that meat (which is high in protein and fat) and zero carbs, is very healthy to eat. We agree that man has been primarily a carnivore for many 100's of thousands of years.
I also agree that if one wants to lose weight, you may need to restrict calories as wells as carbs.
animalmagnetism69 1 year ago
Also, as long as there's a high level of carbohydrates, your body's gonna keep burning them instead of burning fats if you're trying to lose weight.
So if in a diet you were to choose between fat and carbohydrates, take fat, in half the amount.
Cause each fat molecule gives almost twice as much energy as a single carbohydrate molecule gives.
RealKengeki 2 years ago

I have heard that drinking warm water helps melt stored fat. For me it definitely helps with elimination. I believe it loosens up waste and lubricates the large intestine. By this line of thinking the cold water that most people drink freezes fat or slows down the fat burning process. I wonder if someone has an opinion on that.
911nomad 2 years ago
I think it is the exact opposite. When you drink cold water, your bodies metabolism speeds up to raise the tempature of the water; hence fat gets burned. I'm not a professional tho, so im not entirely sure either.
BaileyLush 2 years ago
I would agree with you that drinking cold water would speed up metabolism, in the winter if you are cold, your body will be using MORE ENERGY to warm itself up!!! This is why when people work out and believe that they are losing more weight if they SWEAT, well yeah, but its all WATER weight, not weight for fat. Lol
MopDMTBARTL 2 years ago
It helps me with "elimination also", and i drink green tea which is very good for you. its a win win for me :)
Twentysixbillion 2 years ago
ok the lowdown on water, yes cold water will burn a few more calories, however hot water does the same, your body can only absorb anything at body temp, no more no less, so it needs to get to that temp. also water does help with defacation, and the part about burning fat is totally true, need water to digest and move waste, basically water is a miracle your body needs tons of it every day, drink eater and eat meat to be healthy

LostMente 2 years ago
The word "essential" in nutrition means that the body is incapable or producing the nutrient on it's own.
There are certain essential amino acids, essential fatty acids & essential vitamins.
There are NO essential carbohydrates.
The body is capable of producing energy without any carbohydrates whatsoever. This isn't opium but this is why people on the Atkins diet don't die.

Just ask the Inuit and Massai tribes, or Dr Atkins, Dr Sears, Dr Cordain, Dr Price, Dr Groves, or any caveman (with whom you are genetically identical).
shadowlapis 2 years ago
Absolutely true. If people enjoy carb heavy foods then go ahead and eat them, but stop buying into the false claim that we NEED to consume whole grain pasta's, bread, etc. Veggies are great sources of vit. min. and nutrients, fruits are good (but not great) sources, and anything else that has carbs is probably doing more harm than good to your body. So eat them if you want, but don't try saying that a healthy person needs carbs to stay healthy.

more specifically you need protein, however you acquire it.
AnonyMysterio 2 years ago 2
Yes, meat may contain these things, but we don't need meat to be healthy, if one is consuming enough fruits and veggies (and a bit of seed/ nuts). Im rly curious to hear Radhia's opinion though..
paragonflux 2 years ago
True, we don't "need" meat, but it is an excellent source of many nutrients, and is virtually the only source that contains all the necessary amino acid chains. The protein in nuts, soy, etc. is not nearly as useful to the body as that contained in steak, eggs, chicken, etc. So you can certainly avoid meat if you want, but both sides of "meat-eating" should be more honest about what the benefits and side effects of meat consumption.
kbonez2 2 years ago
Actually, animal protein is really not as useful for many reasons. One being as that it contributes to osteoporosis. Hemp is a complete plant protein and not only does it have a lot, it's protein is absorbed very well. But of course their is soy and quinoa which are both complete proteins. Most Americans get twice as much protein as their body actually needs. For me, protein is extremely easy to find in plants foods. Some of the biggest and strongest animals in the world are herbivores.
xEndlessAutumnx 2 years ago
Where do you ge tthe notion that americans eat 2x as much protein as necessary?
kbonez2 2 years ago
Well, it is not just a "notion". More doesn't always mean better. There have been plenty of studies to support this. You can only fit so much info on youtube comments (confound it!) Also, it's quite obvious when the countries that eat the least amount of animal products also have less cases of cancers, obesity, heart problems, diabetes, osteoporosis, etc. These are not some random claims that I am making up. pcrm (dot) org is one website with information, but I swear that isn't even the start.
xEndlessAutumnx 2 years ago
More certainly doesn't always mean better, and I'm not saying one should eat a ton. But just to refute your claim, its not true that countries with highest levels of an. consumption have the highest levels of the thigns you mention. Some of the leanest and healthiest peoples throughout history have eaten almost exclusively fats and proteins from animals (masaii in Africa, Inuit peoples, etc.) and have the lowest levels of obesity, heart disease, etc.
kbonez2 2 years ago
True, but these people also get much more physical exercise than the average American because they are using the fat and protein that they consume. Most people don't use these nutrients. If somebody doesn't get much exercise than their body has to get rid of that excess protein and it basically goes to waste anyways. What I stated is True. Have you taken a look at the countries that consume the most dairy products? I am sure you mean moderation is key, but still, meat protein isn't superior.
xEndlessAutumnx 2 years ago
But I think most americans should get off their chairs and move, in which case we need more pro. and fat. But I agree with you about your general idea :)
kbonez2 2 years ago
Don't assume that someone who eats a plant based diet is lazy or has no energy. Plenty of athletes don't eat animal products. They get their energy from carbs instead of fat. If someone really did need fat on a plant based diet they don't have to do much. Where you would probably lose weight eating raw potatoes eating them cooked could easily help you get fat, which is why farmers feed their pigs cooked potatoes. I'm getting off track, but that comment about sitting at a desk all day was absurd.
xEndlessAutumnx 2 years ago
I hardly said that at all. I said that if thats what a person does then they should eat a plant based diet. You've made a logical error (incorrect reversal) in evaluating that statement. I didn't say that you couldn't eat a plant based diet and still be extremely active. So yeah, try and keep the discussion focused to what is actually said.
kbonez2 2 years ago
"But I think most americans should get off their chairs and move, in which case we need more pro. and fat."
That was what I was mostly referring too. It sounded as though you meant if want to be active then you need more animal products. I probably did interpret it incorrectly.
xEndlessAutumnx 2 years ago
My sister is veggie and she's in great shape :)
kbonez2 2 years ago
Exactly what I was trying to get across. I completely agree with you minus the "amount" issue. You can eat meat and be healthy. And can not eat meat and be healthy.
xEndlessAutumnx 2 years ago
i have to disagree, you must eat some meat to be healthy. it contains b-12, creatine and iodine, these are essential to being helathy and only found in the correct forms and amounts in animal products
MisterNutrition 2 years ago
No, you don't need meat. I haven't had meat in almost two years and I know a woman who has not had any animal products in over 15 years and she is perfectly fine. It really is not hard to get these nutrients without animal products. It just takes some research and time. This is a new thing for many people. You can eat meat & be healthy, but it is not necessary and it's not hard to live without it (nutritionally speaking).
(Oddly, there are lots of comments regarding meat for a carbs video. Lol)
xEndlessAutumnx 2 years ago 3

eating fruits gives you ALOT of energy because they are mostly made up of simple sugars so your body can digest them easily and quickly.
meat has to sit in your stomach for hours to digest..how does this give one more energy when one is literally digesting their food all day?:\
paragonflux 2 years ago
Thats a pretty poor argument. Foods that take longer to digest will provide you with more sustained energy. A candy bar digests rapidly and will give you a quick burst of energy, but 45 mintues later you will either crash or need to eat again. So if you're argument is that eatting fruits and veggies every 20 minutes is the best source of energy than maybe that makes sense, but if you want to be able to eat a meal and have a steady supply of energy than slower digesting foods are better.
kbonez2 2 years ago
which is what veggies are - slow digesting, not fruits - those are quick digesting.
MopDMTBARTL 2 years ago
Thats true, which is why I think vegetables are a crucial component to a good diet. I was responding to his claim that because meat takes a long time to digest it is therefore unhealthy. You certainly don't want to be consuming rapidly digestable foods, especially sugars (carbs) due to their effect on insulin levels. Sorry if my prior statement implied that I was against vegetables. I'm not against fruits either (for obvious reasons), but their sugar content does mean one should limit them.
kbonez2 2 years ago
MopDMTBARTL 2 years ago
no eat meat definitly, 5-6 meals is perfect, eat carbs in the am and throughout the day switch to protein, lots of chicken and red meat, veggies are a waste of time, when counting calories you need to get the most bang for the buck, veg have too many cals for the little nutrition they provide
MisterNutrition 2 years ago
agree!! i'm paranoid on eating fruit while trying to lose body fat but retain muscle. but i'm also wondering if all of that protein is necessary? protein shakes, 20-40 grams each meal, 3-4 hours a day, etc.. Or is it okay to just eat some veggies for one meal, say cucumber and celergy with some almonds? what i'm doing is working, slowly, just wondering what is the best way to lose all of that stomach fat I put on over the years of bad dieting with zero moderation on things.
