Fryderyk Chopin :) He is my favourite composer! I love his music... I am a Pole and Chopin was Pole and he played the piano for Poland, because he loved our homeland. I'm proud, that I live in Poland :) Unfortunately, I'm writting English, because people who live abroad don't learn Polish...
This is my fist response to any video on YouTube. I believe Chopin would be proud to have this piece played in souch an emotional and romantic way. Best I have ever heard. God bless.
I love this song especially the way you played it. It sounds so mellow, nice, romantic, and relaxing. I don't know how to explain it but out of the styles that other people play this song, i just love the way you played! Slow, narrative, and I want to it all the time.
@MKM0890 That is very sad, but you should never give up hope! I'm sure you will make your family and dad very proud after you accomplished many pieces on the piano :) It's never late to start anything. It might even motivate you more and allow you to exceed other people who started at an early age!
@sahandsesoot Dynamics and tempo are two totally different things. I don't know why so many people demand metronomic performances of Chopin anyway, rubato plays a massive part in bringing out the emotion of Romantic music.
You are playing this lovely piece beautifully already!
Keep practicing and be patient.
I would suggest you speed it up a bit, especially the second part, concentrate a bit more on voicing, and then forget the meter and pour all of yourself into the piece!
You are already a concert pianist! CONGRATULATIONS!
ever since i was 5 i wanted to play the piano but my dad got cancer and died leaving my mom alone with me, my 2 brothers and a sister and i was the oldest i wanted to play the piano but how could i ask my mother to provide me some kind of musical education when she had so many problems i'm 20 now i started going to college after working part time jobs i bought my own instrument and started taking lessons. this piece and chopin in general is what kept me going i hope it's not too late
@MKM0890 my story is not better, its never late to start, especially in music, especially if u have such a good taste...I'm 17 now, and i almost collect money for my piano, so i will learn too, and this is going to be first thing am gonna learn !
@Narekm94 yeah man its never too late to start. I started piano when I was in 8th grade and im a senior in high school and with the passion and the practicing hours a day im going to a music school for composition =]. good luck with your piano!
@MKM0890 Man! I id with you... i live in mexico so culture is very poor, and my home economy too, but i'm 18 and I started 2 years ago... It's never too late, yeah maybe you won't be a Chopin or so, but you can still be great! and with such a great musical taste haha Chopin is the one who keeps me studying too....
@MKM0890 You can do it! I have always been in love with music and the piano as well, but also was never able to afford to even buy the instrument itself. I and my sister always got jealous of the rich kids who were able to have piano lessons and yet refused to, or did it so unwillingly as if it was a burden for them. All we could do at the time was just thinking that instruments and music connoisseurship is meant to be for rich kids only. But your example's given me hope!
@MKM0890 It's never too late. Your dedication and commitment will take you far. However, just don't play "songs." Play your scales every day and learn theory. You will excel...
@MKM0890 So true, never too late. I started taking piano lessons 6 months ago (I am 56) .... so many wonderful pieces to learn. Work, work and more work. Good luck and never give up.
@MKM0890 It is never too late but piano takes years to master and for a 7 th grader like me it took almost 8 and a half years too perfect everything. Piano...shouldn't be taken as just a leisure type of activity, it takes hard work and dedication to learn a song.
@MKM0890 I am abt 40 all my life I wanted to learn to play at least one instrument but I couldn't till now. You are a lucky man started at half of my age. Let the music lead to you to the ultimate bliss ........best of luck
@MKM0890 you'll get there.... if you love piano, before you know it, you'll be playing this....
not to scare you but it took me 8 years before i attempted this song... but pretty sure it can be done earlier because it wasnt that hard when i first attempted this
@MKM0890 I started playing piano at 21 years old (this past September) and I just finished this piece (which I started about a month ago). Rest assured, if you try hard enough, you will almost certainly be able to do it.
@MKM0890 You might not be able to play the most challenging pieces to perfection. There is a school of thought that if you haven't developed the speed and dexterity in adolescents it is too late. No matter what, if you feel the piece, if you understand what the composer was trying to express you will accomplish your goals. I no longer play for anyone but myself, and I have never enjoyed it more. I understand what you mean about keeping you going. This is the second time it has save my life.
Never too late. I was 16 when I started and being older I learned quickly. The piano was one of the few things I ever got that I really wanted and never dreamed I'd have. I was gifted with lessons. I never forgot what I learned in that year and a half. I taught myself to play Chopin. Somebody told me to practice sight reading the music everyday, It really works, The piano still touches my heart, love the sound, beauty beyond words for me. There are lessons on Youtube.com. Good luck.
@MKM0890 Its never to late today I just start piano and meet the teacher for intro. Im 20 too this year and the teacher told me that he teach this old women age 68 years old 1 year later she can play many song from beethoven and chopin..the teacher told me the reason is she practice everyday... and must fall in love with the piano...
@MKM0890 I'm in the same boat as you. I sing, and have always had an "exceptional" ear. I started learning guitar. All the songs I learn are by ear, but piano has always been where my heart is, I too hope to learn someday.
@ferrari4sale in Canada, at least, Nocturne in C Sharp minor is considered to be a grade 9 piece (piano wise, mind you)
i'm actually in the process of learning it, currently, and the ending is very difficult to master. :P
anyways, if you want a good estimate, i'm learning it and i'm 16 years old, and really only started with a good teacher at the age of 11. i have learned rapidly, but that doesn't mean this piece is any less difficult.
hm, I wonder if everyone plays this piece for grade 9 rcm. I don't know anyone who did grade 9 RCM and didn't play this piece (myself included)! Personally I think the part starting around 2:45 is the hardest, it took so long for me to be satisfied with how it sounded, and I always lost the pulse around there. maybe that's just me,haha :)
@derkuj I think you don't get it, Chopin was born in Poland, yes, but he was half french and it was in Paris were he became famous, so i think its only natural it sometimes appears that way, don't you? There's actually no lack of respect.
@ivanvvt, for songs at this high of a level, tutorials are pretty much worthless. there has to be some kind of technique already learned by a pianist before he/she can think about playing it.
i could put up a tutorial on how i did it, however it wouldn't be of much use, you know?

Anyone no where i can get a good copy of sheet music of this peice, im only 16 but been playing 9 years and i REALLY want to learn this!! idc if i have to pay i just really want the sheet music!! thanks guys :)
@wongy2006 fingering is not the problem... ive got that all worked out and the timing.. its the speed =( and then keeping it legato and making sure the left hand doesnt slow down... -sigh- need to practice my scales more >.<

@DJumpen1>> no, it is really really REALLY hard to learn properly. those scales at the end are killers =(

@jacquib92 it's not as hard when you figure out a comfortable fingering...
On the first of the last scales I go 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,3,2,1,3,2,1,4,3,2,1,3 (I don't know why I end on 3 but I do XDDD)

@wongy2006 fingering is not the problem... ive got that all worked out and the timing.. its the speed =( and then keeping it legato and making sure the left hand doesnt slow down... -sigh- need to practice my scales more >.<
