you can easily make him sit and pour a bit of water over him (and pick it back up) and he'll jump too

Use a pressure plate and you have a pulse generator for redstone circuits.

@Yendaa Brilliant! I just tried it out and it works! Because the pressure plate says on for a little while after being activated, the pulse comes every other jump, not every jump.
