the Black Flags and Macula all deserved Oscars for their dying screams as they were beaten up or star-knived and fell over a dam-wall like the one in this vid..those guys could really act.
the Japanese expression and exclamation of astonishment is another favorite where they shine..
the comment that it did a lot for reconciliation with Japan is probably valid.
So did the "Fuji" character in McHales Navy, I guess..did for the Japanese what Sergeant Schultz did for the Germans..
Sounds like the comentators In Japan r makin fun of this Show? Stuff them... My father, grandad and uncles hated Japs & fought against them. This show in Australia in Sydney in the 60's & 70's did more for us, to like and love the Japanese more than anything, because they were just the good guys against the bad... God Love Phantar & The Phantom Agents....
As a visiting American, I spent 2 years in Australia when I was a young child. I remember this show very well. There was something truly magical about how it engaged the imagination. I made star knives out of tin can tops. Me and my mates spent much time pretending to be Phantom Agents. I was eventually given a severe reprimand for throwing those sharp star knives which could easily injure someone. My grade school also did not appreciate the fact that I made gun powder with my chemistry set.
The DVDs are actually available online, but I believe they are in Japanese. If you Google on Ninja Butai Gekko you'll see that a few places sell them.
Oh, this show was a scream !! I remember it so well as a kid in the 60s. A sort of updated "Shintaro" type theme. To us, the Phantom Agents came across as 'high-camp' .. a distinct element of novelty 'humour' about the whole thing. It used to have us laughing our heads off. Of course, we'd imitate em in our own mock battles against the bad guys, star-knives, samurai swords and all. As an integral part of our growing up here in Australia, we remember it very fondly. Thank you, sharkskinboy !!
wel said mate, i remember so so well, as an 8 year old along with all the other TV hits from that era, yes then out to the back yard for some mocking fun, cheap, clean, healthy, funny and everlasting, AH to go back mate!!!!
I to Used to watch this show as well as Shintaro then I would go out the back with my brothers and we would BASH the shit out of each other WERE STILL NOT TALKING lol I still have back pain from those days. He lost an EYE though. My mother always said to put down those Star throwers or you will have someones EYE out :-)
