@GriefTourist But the Police admitted liability in civil law for their negligence and in criminal law Duceknfield was tried for gross neglgience manslaughter but acquitted by a jury of normal people who, unlike you, heard all the evidence. The way I see it, both the venue and the police had a duty of care to the supporters, and the the supporters had a reasonable expectation that it would be fufilled. There was a wilful dereliction of responsibilities on the part of the owners of the ground, and a fatal error of judgement by the police in appointing a recently promoted officer with no experience of handling such an event. Neither of those of matters was an "accident". An "accident" is something genuinely unavoidable. This was.

Yes, we all make mistakes - but mature, well-balanced people admit when they do, and show public remorse. Nothing I've seen or read has demonstrated that Dukenfield has even admitted making said mistake, soething which could go a long way to healing old wounds. The thing is, that you can either take a reasonable intelligent approach, or the approach of a lynch mob. This man is not the devil. He made a bad mistake. We are all human. His mistake cost lives. There was no intent. He has gone through the justice system and in 2000 was acquitted by a jury of criminal charges. That jury heard days of evidence that you have not. On the other hand, there is the hysterical approach put forward by people with low intelligence who can't make a reasoned argument.

He wasn't acquitted, he got out claiming he was too ill to standtrial. And I agree, that he may have made a bad mistake, but he had plenty of opportunities - years! - to admit it. After hearing days of evidence, the jury acquitted him as they couldn't reach a verdict.
