  • <3 so deep

  • Oh, now I'm gonna cry. :( Uncle Iroh, HUGS!

  • 22 year old guy here....and I got a lump the size of Appa in my throat and tears are filling my eyes after watching the episode.

  • @xTheNIL8Rx the way you wrote thaat first part reminded me of when Zuko switches sides; "Hey, Zuko here" xD

  • @xxXGAMERGEEKSXxx hahaha, that was one of the funniest moments in the show

  • @xTheNIL8Rx Yeah, no kidding!!! I nearly busted a gut laughing at Zuko when he said that!!! I even went as far as to say, "Talk about a bad greeting! I thought mine were terrible, but this takes the cake!"

  • Love this. Mako did an amazing job as Uncle Iroh

  • R.I.P. Mako, Forever in my heart as the brilliant and wise Iroh. It may not have been his biggest role, but it was by far my favorite, and no one could have portrayed Iroh's deep and solemn shrouded character better. Saddest two minutes of the whole series, both for Mako and Iroh. =[

  • lik dis if u cry evrytim!!1!

  • does anybody have any idea what instrument this is played on? Sounds like it could be a sitar or a lute, but I don't really know.

  • @Lardman678 Pretty sure it's a Pipa, look up Incubus - Aqueous Transmission or just search pipa

  • @eversmot

Thanks. I forgot about that. It's pretty much a chinese lute. Now I gotta learn how to play the pipa.

  • Firelord Ozai disliked this video six times

  • I miss your Iroh, I miss you Mako

  • is this wen hes singing to his dead son? do we know which nation killed his son?

  • @Sand1ingMan Probably the Earth Kingdom since it was during the invasion of ba sing se.

  • @Sand1ingMan Iroh's son was killed during the great six-year siege of Ba Sing Se lead by General Iroh himself. The death of his son was the cause of why the siege was a failure since Iroh just fell apart after that.

  • I really appreciate Avatar's handling of mature and deep themes. Children are young, yes--but the world need not be dumbed down for them (as many children's shows tend to do). Kids are as capable as adults at recognizing fear, sorrow, loss--and, at the opposite end of the spectrum, joy and serenity. I respect and admire Avatar for presenting such pertinent issues--both political and emotional--in a manner that children can understand. <3

  • why the hell was this so deep as a kids show?

not a question that goes through my mind during this show.

  • @Bloodyidit Its not the questions that make Avatar deep. Its the feelings you feel while watching Avatar that makes this so much more than a regular childrens tv show. Watch The Tales of Ba Sing Se, The Desert or Appa's Lost Days. Then you will understand why this is way bigger than Spongebob. Atleast for me it is.

  • @Bloodyidit its not deep in the sense that it makes you think or anything like that, its deep because its full of emotion and spurs emotion inside of the viewer

  • but he never did come marching home...

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAH :(

  • damnit did anyone else want to just jump in the tv and give iroh a hug?

  • this is the saddest song ever. I wanna hug iroh! :(

  • ......oooo make r.i.p

  • this makes me cry every time i watch. :'(

  • @StraightAGirl cant help it to

  • "If only i could have helped you as much as you helped me" R.I.P Mako poor Iroh i felt your pain

  • Does anyone know what instrument this is?

  • @HolisticTonic its called a pipa like a chinese guitar

  • this show was really good but i hate seeing fans being attacked by other fans .T.T

  • RIP Mako :)

  • I always feel like crying when i hear this song or watch this episode.

  • In my opinion, this was the crowning moment of Avatar. Not only did the song symbolize the emotions of some of the world's people having lost a loved one to the war, but they honored an actor from the show. Mako will be missed...

  • i think its a tsungi horn

  • saddest scene ever made... :'(

    Avatar is just a masterpiece...

James Cameron's Avatar should be proud to wear a title like that

  • what's the instrument called the song starts with?

  • @Liekefriet it's the japanese koto

  • R.I.P. Mako...

  • Damn ... this was deep for a kids show ...

  • @BlackKat226 Kids shows can be surprisingly sad even though they are post to be good. I don't remember any other examples other then Avatar the Last Airbender... Maybe Dragonball Z.. I have no clue.

  • @masterofgames15000 Disney movies. Damn all so sad and pure horror if you ask me.

The tales of Ba Sing Se is such a good episode. Irohs tale is soo heartbreaking.

  • @BlackKat226 One of the few very good, non-modernized shows of today.

  • @Kronimiciad Thats what I fear most in Korra. That the setting is modern with electricity and other shit.

  • @Superiorer Korra comes 70 years afterward. Its setting is more modernized, but there is no electricity.

  • @Superiorer agreed, i think with avatar being basic thats what made it soo gooood,

  • @BlackKat226 That's because is not a ''kids show''. Everybody can apreciate it, kids or adults...

  • @pimentx You're right on that one! I'm sixteen years old and I still watch Avatar and I still cry because of this vid.

  • Its sad that the voice actor of irah died and that's why they put in honor of mako in the show if you didn't already know and you can tell in season 3 irah voice sounded different

  • @NicholasBvB makoto iwamatsu or akira from conan (original) or splinter rest in peace man you played a hand in a big part of my child hood.

  • :'(

  • like dis if u cry evrytim

  • @jayjay0529

Oh well you know wat i mean

  • Even if we didn't know much about Mako, its just sad to know how Iroh had lost him, his son. And this song reflects his emotions of such anguish...

  • im crying

  • This always makes me tear up =( Iroh was always a favorite character, so to see him cry was just too sad for words.

  • There is something genuinely sad when you take a wise character like Uncle Iroh. Who you have known through the entire show and known him as a jolly, sweet, and kindly old man. Then you discover he has a horrible pain that is caused by a devastating past. This song makes me want to cry.

  • what is his sons name?

  • @Iwatchthesevids His sons name was Lu Ten

  • @Falconpanch NO ITS MAKOU

  • @locococo48 Er...Mako.

  • @LoryskaEntertainment His son's name is Lu Ten. Mako Iwamatsu is the man who did the voice for Iroh during the first and second seasons of the show. Unfortunately he died, so they dedicated that short story to him.

  • @intergalacticnarwhal I didn't know that about Mako. :( That's very sad. But I was merely correcting the incorrect spelling.

  • Comment removed

  • @locococo48 nope lu ten. mako was the original iroh voice and he past away by the time they were going to make this. So this was a tribute to him.

  • This song gives me a nostalgic feeling..

  • 6 people are stupid

  • Iroh was truly an amazing character. R.I.P Mako.

  • makes me cry everytime! :(

  • Iroh: best old man in the series. R.I.P. Mr.Mako. T-T

  • @katana1251 idk if you heard but in the Legend of Korra the main firebending character's name will be Mako, i think thats so great

  • The first few notes made me cry :'(

  • Those 6 dislikes were from Ozai, Azula, and Zhao.

  • Iroh! Is there anyone more amazing?

  • I just cried

  • Agreed, Falconpanch. R.I.P. Mako

  • Iroh was the only true firebender in his lifetime. He gained enlightenment from the dragons, learned of humility and restraint that only suffering can bring and watched as his brother continued the corruption of his homeland and instead of taking the path of vengeance he willingly chose exile with Zuko. Iroh is character of the year every year.

  • Whenever I'm feeling down, I watch this episode... It makes me feel so much better. I can't explain, it's just so comfortable... It makes me think clearly about stuff.

  • @theicechinchilla it sounds vaguely like a mandolin. I particularly love this song when taken from the show, cause Iroh is singing about his son... I think it's really heartfelt.

  • what instrument is this in the beginning?

  • T.T

  • theres a character named after mako in the legend of korra!

  • wait, i saw that iroh had to different people to vioce him, is one mako and he died?

  • @AirbenderLover17 Yeah :( iirc Mako voiced the 1st and almost all of the second season, but not the third. He disappears for a while so the change isn't jarring.

  • @AirbenderLover17 Yes. Thats why on the series after this song is over it said "In honor of Mako".

  • I used this as a funeral song for my cats.

  • ...For Mako

  • Wow, i didn't think anyone watched avatar anymore, i still watch it daily on nicktoons, Avatar is the most amazing show ever, can't believe how many episodes it has and every signle episode is exciting.

  • *tears up* uhh..no one saw that.

  • my heart breaks at 0:43 when iroh starts to cry=,(....

  • who exactly would dislike this video? it makes you cry T_T

  • this is a sad song :(

  • I cried so fucking hard. I felt Iroh's pain from my speakers.

    R.I.P Mako... you'll be missed.

  • @FilipinoxBandito you're gay.

  • @stryderxx56 Because admitting that you cried when one of your favorite voice actors died equates to homosexuality. Nice, buddy.

  • @FilipinoxBandito actually you said you felt iroh's pain.. so crying because of a cartoon character, and putting it on youtube for attention makes you gay.

  • @stryderxx56 People cry cause of movies and shit all the time. Writers and animators did a good job with this. So how about you stop talking to me condescendingly over the internet. Also, your derogatory use of the word makes you sound like an ignorant fuck. So I'd rather be gay and secure with how I feel towards things (yeah. I cried. I don't see the big deal about it. Don't see how it concerns you.) than sound like some judgmental ignorant stranger on YouTube.

  • @FilipinoxBandito i know its a great show but you're asking for attention by telling people you cried from a cartoon, have some self pride buddy.

  • @FilipinoxBandito you know Mako is the guy that voice acted Iroh during Book 1 and 2. He passed away in 2006. :(

  • @weirdpeopleonearth Yeah. He was the shit. Lol.

  • Aw.

  • I agree...avatar is a awesome show..and I'm also surprised sometimes thinking that this was on nickelodeon...because in my opinion...i feel like this show was like the most mature...as in actually appreciating the concepts and themes of the show...and it isnt not like easy watching like spongebob or any other nicktoon... i mean plenty of kids watched this show at around 7 years of age...but most likely b/c they enjoyed the fight scenes and whatnot...but not really appreciating the whole concept

  • @Ontheball44 i agree when i was little and this show first came out i liked it cuz of the fight scenes, but as i grew older i started to rewatch this whole series and loved the show even more because i could understand the deeper meanings in this show. because of that i love this show more than anyother show on earth

  • I bet that if there was a TV channel that just had Avatar the Last Airbender and only Avatar the Last Airbender, in a while it would become more popular than any other channel

  • bawwwwwwwww

  • But thats why I like it as well. (AVATAR) I was at first like Crap theres another POKEMON!!! Even the beginning was a little Kidsy. But then the love, Emotion, Tears (Toph looses her grip as Saka is not letting go) comedy and even the Enemies C-Man Best Ever looked like KARNOV (The First Ninetendo Children) Karnov Even Shot Fire from his Mouth. The teenage characters grew up through it all....all that damn war. .

  • But thats why I like it as well. (AVATAR) I was at first like Crap theres another POKEMON!!! • Every Man Woman and Child can relate to this song. There sons and brothers might not come back, more these days thankgod to technology.

  • So sad :'(

  • "in times of peace, sons bury their fathers; in times of war fathers bury their sons"

  • @slipknot0259 Amen

  • @slipknot0259 finnaly someone with something smart to say instead of" oh i cried" or " i dont get it" like wth

  • @slipknot0259 Well said. Just, well said.

  • r.i.p. all of my family members who died in world war two, my family origanilly came from germany, but my great great grandfather moved out right before world war two many of our other family members stayed behind, and died fighting....

  • Damn.... As short as this song is, It really gets me thinking and a little emotional. Even though this isnt real I cant help but feel so sad for Iroh. I'm a man, but I'm willing to admit that yes I did get teary eyed after seeing the episode. And if any one says anything negative about this vid can kiss ass. R.I.P. Mako

  • You all know you cried when you watched this episode...

  • @DigitalPanda1 Do you realize how many people Love Iroh and Mako? You are going to have more dislikes that you know what to do with.

  • I'm crying:(

  • I hate hearing hearing an elder cry.....

  • All those who disliked this are SICK and have no heart.

    R.I.P. Mako

  • was this makos voice?

  • This is either my brother or my dads mail thing.I'm the sis. Or daughter... I love avatar last air bender.soooo cool.did they mack another series yet????

  • @MrDannyrico1 no but they made a movie i can only hope they make another one

  • i cant even begin to relate the depth in sadness

  • you know what makes this sadder its his sons birthday, and also it relates to the thousands in America that have close brothers or sons in the military

  • grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr waffles awesome song

  • I cried when Iroh started singing. Thumbs up if you have a heart too.

  • Why is this so saddening??

  • @avadakedavraization OMFG! Again? Stupid question! Read the fuckin comments.

  • @avadakedavraization you have a heart made of stone and pain

  • As a last tribute to Mako, the creators of Avatar have named a character after him in the new series, The Legend of Korra. I like that :) Mako deserves more love. He did a flawless job voicing Iroh, the best character of the original series.

  • Makes me wish, for once, of a flashback to get an idea of Mako.

  • I love irohs voice. R.I.P Mako. <3

  • How is it that a 1:03 scene of one episode has a million times more emotion and depth than Shyamalan's entire film?

  • yes.

  • Five people need some tea from the Jasmine Dragon

  • lol , my little brother first saw me cry when watching this episode with him on a saturday afternoon

  • You know I'm not a crier, but man when Iroh mourned Lu Ten, I had to turn away because so many tears were flowing down my face. This is obviously one of the most emotional moments EVER on television. Thumbs up if you agree!

  • There are only a few times I have cried with tears during a movie/TV show

    1) Lion King - Mufassa's death

    2) Brother Bear - Kenai confessing to Kovu his crime

    3) Toy Story 3 - The ending where Andy gives his toys to Bonnie

    4) This

incidentally I don't cry to live action movies x]

  • This makes me cry ;(

  • Leaves from the vine,

    Falling so slow,

    Like fragile, tiny shells,

    Drifting in the foam,

    Little soider boy,

    Comes marching home,

    Brave soider boy,

    Comes marching home.

Thumbs up if you cried when he sang this.

  • @Glogirlglori I cry every time I think about it!! :(..

  • @Glogirlglori

BRAVE SOLDIER BOY, COMES MARCHING HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMME! Zuko came marching home, after the war as a Brave Soldier Boy

  • @Glogirlglori I always though of it as "Come marching home, Comes marching home.".

  • @Nomneenja Yeah I messed up little bit

  • @Glogirlglori You spelled Soldier wrong.

  • @margaritav12 I know.

  • @Glogirlglori Like a Baby T_T

  • THIS EPISODE DESTROYED ME!!! :(

  • @89Tek me to

  • The last episode before Mako passed away... and this episode... made me cry... so much.

  • @roseofmay91 what episode was it? 15 or 16 i heard but im not sure.

  • @furyfighter612 Ummm... I'm not sure. All I know is that this is the last episode that he did then he died from esophagal (not sure how to spell it) cancer. It was sad.

  • I really wish that this series would have continued into more seasons. I remember watching the last episode when it aired and being sad that it was over....It still makes me sad :'(

  • the music is really pretty=]

  • the tales of ba sing se is one of my favourite episodes

    especially irohs short.

    *kid's ball sash through window*

Iroh:sometimes, its better to live up to your mistakes

*giant man looks through broken window in anger*

Iroh:....but not in this case. RUN!

  • At 0:48 did he just say soulja boi OOO:

    and this song is...indescribably touching

  • OMG the singing scared me I thought the was no singing! It's sad but I didn't cry

but I did click like and favorite....

  • @KataraA8 - YES

and i usually dont cry very easily

  • @OpenAtTheClose8 naww :(

  • does anyone else cry in this scene?

  • @KataraA8 always..iroh is my favorite character in the show. i wish i had an uncle like him.

  • @furyfighter612 he is one of the best characters...its sad that he wont be in legend of korra

  • REST IN PEACE Mako we will always remember you

  • The singing surprised me because none of the other songs had singing...

Btw, everyone's saying RIP Mako but this was sung in the Fire Book, when Greg Baldwin was the voice of Iroh...
