You a genie or what. Lovely recipe.Just purchased some fruit. Will try it out today. Would it work if the mix was kept outside the refrigerator? Merry Xmas
@robjnixon Hi love this recipe and I'll definitely make this on Christmas, so I wonder 1 thing..can I use just milk and cocoa instead chocolate milk?? unfortunately in my town I can't fint chocolate milk :(( Sorry for my bad English, not from USA or UK..thanks for all youre recipe love your channel ! <3
Cherries and chocolate go so well together. I tend to leave out the nuts though since my hubby tends not to like them. I just make up the difference with more fruit or some marmalade.
although i like your recipes this one is not a christmas cake. not because of the milk but because of the very very short shelf life it has. they are supposed to be soaked in alcohol in order to keep them indefinitely. best regards from cyprus
this indeed is a gr8 recipe 4 a veggie like me...would luv to make it,but have few ques in my mind...for one cup all purpose flour i need to put 1 1/2 tsp. or tbsp. of baking powder? and what abt. sugar?
Hey Rob just thought I'd let you know I bought the ingredients for this recipe today except the chocky milk. I will be making this on Sunday for Tony. Really excited to see what it's like! :O)
Wow, I have never in my life seen a christmas cake recipe using chocolate milk and I make one almost every year. I was going to skip this year, as there are only going to be a few of us this christmas, but this looks so eay, I will make it using about a third of the measurements. Thanks Nicko =D
Also, would you consider making a video for a gingerbread house, but with cinnamon biscuit instead of gingerbread? I haven't made one before so I need a recipe from a source I can trust =) Thanks
Next time you say aluminum or aluminium, say "Whichever you have." rather than note that they are the same thing. This will probably lead to a couple people wondering where they can get Aluminium in America and that would be hilarious.
:) Well, ya know, had our ups and downs lately, but doing pretty good. We're leaving to spend the holidays with my better half's family tomorrow night, so that will be fun!
Hey Nicko, great vid as usual! :D Just wanted to ask if the cake rises alot while it's baking? I'm planning to make cupcakes with this recipe so was just wondering how much I should fill the liners..
Now that was brilliant Nicko!! Tony will love this and I will enjoy making it because it is no fuss! What a blessing this recipe was for me mate! 5 Stars and faved . Love ya! xoxoxox
@robjnixon ooohhh....i'd love to try some of your recipes lol :-). but most of that stuff i've never cooked before and i'm afraid it'll go badly wrong (it has happened to me before, once when i was making cookies i accidentally mistok salt for sugar...freakin nasty results lol)
What's the difference between self rising flour, and just regular flour? Because I live in Taiwan, so if I buy the ingredients, they'll be in Chinese and I'm afraid of getting the wrong flour. Would regular flour ruin it?
self rising flour is exactly the same as regular only it has salt and baking powder already mixed in. For every cup of regular flour just add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
I would replace the chocolate with a strawberry reduction - just put strawberries in a pot with some lemon juice and sugar over a low heat, the strawberries will soften and you will be able to much them into a thick sauce. Leave it to cool and follow the same steps :)
Very similar to my mothers recipe, but she doesnt do the chocolate milk step. She simmers the fruit with rum, water and a few other things instead (simmering probably shortens the soak time). Looks very similar though.
What if you want to taste the chocolate? Is that a bad thing? I love chocolate and cherries.

After 8 hours of soaking the fruit in the refrigerator, does one need to wait till the fruit comes to room temp before mixing in the flour?
