two americans dancing, there was a say that Mr. Fung was an american marines in world war II, serve in the pacific battlefield, as an american to flight the japs.
Sek Yin Tse (石燕子) was also an american soldier to fight the japs in the pacific war.
Thanks for telling us both 周坤玲 & 馮應湘 were born in US. This is the 1st time I heard about it.
I dont know if its related to the place of his birth, I always felt 馮應湘s outlook, façade and demeanour were quite different with most of other Chinese male actors at that time. Hes more westernized in nature.
Even he always acted as the villain, he had the power drew women towards him. 黃錦燊 possessed such similar attractiveness when he first joint the show biz in HK.
周坤玲 and 黃超武 for many years had a restaurant in San Francisco's Chinatown, where they could be seen daily. They had a daughter, a young teenager at that time. 何非凡 came around l958, 59 or 60. It was very unfortunate. 黃超武 seemed like a nice guy, always smiling and attentive toward his customers. After the restaurant changed hands, I never saw any of them again. 周坤玲 was born in San Francisco. 馮應湘 was born in Sacramento. I knew 周坤玲's older sister very well.
It's fun watching them dance. No wonder the camera followed them almost all the way. Both of them were born in the US. 周坤玲 returned to the US in the late 1950s, while 馮應湘 died of appendicitis in 1955, at the age of 46. So sad.
I have no idea. Maybe someone familiar with the Chinese communities/Cantonese operas in the US will know? I've just googled her information. The big news story about her is still her affair with 何非凡 (he also appears in this clip...haha), which led to her divorce from 黃超武. But that's long time ago.

Thank you so much for your information on Chow Kwun-ling. I know that here many movie buffs still remember her. And I remember Fung Ying-seong, too.

Indeed 是令人心花怒放的 movie clip - both 周坤玲與 馮應湘 seem to really enjoy the dance routine too.
