Japanese Cicadas

A few years ago, I was stationed in Okinawa.

I remember, sitting in my barracks room, window open, the chirping of cicadas and the oppressive heat rolling in with every swell of the evening breeze, as the sun disappeared into the forest on the horizon.

I miss it so much...

In anime everything is used for something. Since cicadas only sing at 25 celcius, when you hear them it means is summer

@melonsoda24 Cicadas DO make buzz like that in the US. Here in Arizona, they buzz all through summertime. Trust me though, you're lucky you don't have them, that buzzing is extremely loud, I have to plug my ears when I go past a tree with one. You can't tell from this video, but it really is VERY loud

The sound is often played in Japanese commercials too. Similar to in America, the sound of crickets is equivalent to summer nights, for Japanese this is very common. This sound means summer for them. [:
